Colleen Coyle ’99 & Jillian Scarcello Cannan ’03 from Buffalo Collective
Leanne received the conference MVP award that year. She is still very active in the volleyball community and currently is the head assistant coach for the SUNY Buffalo State College Woman’s Volleyball Team. In 2009, Leanne returned to Mount Mercy Academy by serving on the Alumnae Board. Leanne served as the Alumnae Board Vice President from 2009 until she joined the Mercy staff in 2012 as the Special Events and Marketing Manager in the Department of Institutional Advancement. All of Leanne’s hard work each year resulted in generating hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Academy until her departure in 2016. Leanne continues to be a very active and supportive member of the Mercy and South Buffalo communities.
Colleen Coyle is a South Buffalo native, who started working at the age of 13 in Caz Park as her summer job. She attended Mount Mercy Academy (Class of ’99) and then Daemen College (Class of ’04), after which she lived all over the world and back again, building her career in real estate. Colleen and her partner Phillip are busy raising their 3 children, Evelyn, Quinn, and Rose. Colleen had always dreamed of coming home, and most importantly investing in and helping to bring Buffalo back to glory. She started by joining her fellow MMA Class of ’99 grad Mary Claire Sumbrum in relocating and rejuvenating NU Dance Studio on Abbott Road. Wanting to do something new, Colleen wanted to bring something unique and exciting to South Buffalo, something that would not only draw the local crowd, but also the greater WNY area as well. She reached out to another fellow Mercy Alum, Jillian Cannan, and together they formed Buffalo Collective. Buffalo Collective is a creative studio that hosts DIY wood sign and apparel parties throughout Western New York. Jillian Scarcello Cannan, MMA Class of ’03, and her husband Sean are both natives of South Buffalo. After spending almost ten years in Arizona they have finally returned “home.” Having grown up just a few streets away from each other, their dream has always been to raise their four children, Teagan, Tessa, Smith and Tinka, in the same community that they both grew up in. Being away for so long made Jillian realize how unique Buffalo is. The transformation that Buffalo has made in the past few years has left us in complete amazement and our desire to be a part of this change has become a reality. Jill was looking to make a mark on this community and Buffalo Collective has helped her do just that. Jill has said “these last two years have been a total whirlwind and having the support of the local community has been great. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store for the future.” Being a part of the revitalization of Buffalo, both Colleen and Jillian feel honored to be a women owned business right in the heart of the neighborhood where they both grew up. Their continued success has afforded them the opportunity to give back to the community by donating to numerous causes and events. Buffalo Collective has been a continued generous supporter of Mount Mercy and its fundraising events, such as creating a custom centerpiece for the 2017 McAuley Gala. Mount Mercy Academy is proud to honor such incredible alumnae and local business owners who give back to the community.

The Marie Jackson Women’s Golf Tournament raises funds for students who are entering Catholic High School. This incredible scholarship inspires awardees to give back to the community. Marie was an avid golfer and bowler until she was 80 years old. Her legacy continues through the scholarships that have been awarded over the years. Over $24,000 has been awarded to Mount Mercy Academy students since 2007.
