Strictly MK Junior - Sunday 27th October 2013
JustDance is proud to present Strictly MK Junior 2013, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and Willen Hospice.
Strictly MK Junior is a fabulous dance competition and the first of its kind in our area. Strictly MK Junior, has been created specifically for the benefit of primary schools in Buckinghamshire . The recent surge in interest amongst young people in Ballroom & Latin dance is largely attributed to the hugely successful BBC1 television show, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. The Idea behind Strictly MK Junior is for years 4, 5 and 6 primary, to be introduced to the element of Ballroom and Latin dancing as a movement activity in their respective schools. Each school will then select their school team of 10 dancers to compete against other schools in a fabulous competition. We expect around 16 primary schools to take part in Strictly MK and one will be crowned the champions of Strictly MK Junior.
When and where is Strictly MK taking place?
Strictly MK Junior will take place in the indoor International area at Bury Farm Equestrian Village, Slapton, Bucks on Sunday 27th October 2013. 16 primary schools, by invitation only, will compete against each other for fun to win the first ever Strictly MK Junior Championship, title. At the same time each school will be helping to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Willen hospice in Milton Keynes. In addition on the evening of Saturday 26th October the adult celebrity gala championships will have taken place in the same venue, raising vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Willen hospice. These exciting competitions have already successfully taken place across many other parts of the country. Now it is the turn of MK and Bucks.
Who are the main organisers of Strictly MK?
We are made up of a team of highly skilled individuals who are all committed to giving up our time and resources to make Strictly MK 2013 the success it deserves to be for Macmillan Cancer Support and Willen Hospice. We are led by Accursio Romeo and Lindsey Inchbald. Accursio Romeo is a Professional Ballroom and Latin dance champion and owner/director of the JustDance School in Milton Keynes. Accursio has a first class dance pedigree and is currently ranked 4th in the United Kingdom Professional Ballroom. From the age of 15 he has competed around the world as representative for England. He is often invited to perform and judge at major dance championships, competitions and dance schools around the UK and Europe. He teaches students at all levels, in workshops, lectures and private lessons to include fellow professional competition dancers. Accursio’s home town is Milton Keynes and he is a keen supporter of Macmillan Cancer Support and Willen Hospice. We are delighted that Accursio has agreed to oversee all the dancing, choreography and musical direction for Strictly MK Junior 2013. His personal contacts and dancing pedigree ensure that all the professional dancers and judges on the night will be top drawer. Lindsey Inchbald is the owner/director of Inchbald Interiors and her home town is Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire. Whilst Lindsey is a successful business woman in her own right, she is also an experienced Charity event organiser with a proven track record, running high profile successful fundraising events, historically at the Sculpture Gallery, Woburn Abbey Bedfordshire. Lindsey’s last 3 major fundraising events have raised just under £90,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Lindsey sadly lost her own dear Mother to cancer only last year and now feels that she has gone full circle. Lindsey’s mother, Maureen, eventually past away in the Willen Hospice. Lindsey has first hand experience therefore, not just of the sheer effort involved in Charity fundraising, but also, and more significantly, the role that both Macmillan Cancer Support and the Willen Hospice play, helping ordinary families like her own, when faced with fighting cancer. Lindsey’s personal aim is to continue to help raise the vital funds needed for both the Willen Hospice and Macmillan Cancer support. You can contact: Lindsey Inchbald: Accursio Romeo:

Who is our target audience?
Strictly MK Junior 2013 is targeted at the population of Buckinghamshire focusing on Milton Keynes. We expect a sell out audience, with a waiting list. We fully expect our audience (schools, teachers, families and friends) to want to travel from outside the area to come and watch this exciting live dance competition. In aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and Willen Hospice. We expect the weekend of 26/27 October 2013 when Strictly MK takes place to be exciting, glamorous, star studded, family entertainment... quite literally the talk of the town!
The Strictly MK 2013 Format
Strictly MK 2013 has the potential to be a local phenomenon which we hope to make into an annual event, with an extremely large target market and audience. Always with the overall goal of raising vital funds for Charity within the community. 16 Primary Schools will enter a team consisting of 10 couples per school team. Each school may enter an A team and a B team, but only a second team if places permit. The schools in their respective teams will go head to head on the dance floor to compete for judge and audience votes. Leading into the exciting dance competition each school will have training and practice sessions to perfect their school team dance routines. Each team will be required to dance the basic steps of a Cha Cha and a Waltz. It is envisaged that each school will make time available from their movement curriculum timetables to teach their pupils these 2 simple dances. It is suggested that each school allow years 4, 5 or 6 (or all three) the opportunity to take part, without discrimination. Each school will select their respective team of 10 pupils to represent their school in the competition, just like in any other team sport. Ideally the team will consist of 5 boys and 5 girls partnered, but this is not essential. Ideally the rest of the year (or certain classes at least) will be allowed to come along on the day and watch their friends compete as part of the audience. We would welcome teachers, parents friends and supporters too. To help each school prepare for the exciting competition, a dance teacher from the JustDance School will visit each school and teach two dance/PE teachers from each school a basic waltz and cha cha. The teacher(s) will then be responsible for teaching their pupils. JustDance will always be available for ongoing advice and tuition as required within each school. On the day, Strictly MK Junior 2013 will be hosted by a top MC. There will also be a panel of 4 dance professional judges. Finalists will be determined by audience voting combined with the panel of dance professional judges. The winners will be crowned on the day Champions of Strictly MK Junior 2013. Each junior participant will be awarded a medal for taking part. The winning school will win a stunning Glitter Ball trophy in addition to individual medals.
