Why we are again endorsing Donald Trump for president
Revamping The Biltmore
By WENDY McCAW

NEWS-PRESS CO-PUBLISHER
n 2016 we were the first, and, for months, the only daily newspaper to endorse Donald Trump because we believed that the nation was in dire need for a change. He promised to make many changes, among them, tax reform, creating new jobs, bringing businesses back to the U.S., reversing bad international deals like NAFTA and the TPP made by prior administrations. And he has made good on those promises. He has traveled the globe, restoring America’s prominence; ended wars, created new relationships with North Korea, made good on prior administrations’ empty promises to move Israel’s capital to Jerusalem, and garnered a peace deal with the Arab states and Israel. He has been tough with China on its hegemony in the Pacific. Because of his leadership and action, ISIS is no more. He has rolled back costly and stifling regulations and has worked with law enforcement to protect American communities by enforcing immigration laws, by prioritizing the targeting of gang members, especially MS-13, all of which has made our country safer from external threats. The president took on drug abuse and opioid addiction with a comprehensive strategy to battle the crisis. He has ensured our country’s commitment to the veterans by streamlining the process of disability claims and signed the VA Mission Act, thereby modernizing VA health care and giving those veterans comparable health care to those outside the military, something sorely lacking in previous administrations. He has rebuilt and modernized the military, protecting America and its allies by defeating terrorist organizations and confronting rogue nations. Under President Trump, the U.S. has become, for the first time, energy independent — the U.S. is now the largest producer of oil and natural gas in the world surpassing Saudi Arabia and Russia. Prior to the Wuhan virus pandemic, President Trump created the greatest prosperity this country has ever seen with the lowest unemployment numbers and the highest stock exchange values. He was proactive when the virus was still in its infancy closing the borders to China and Europe, saving countless lives. Reading the Biden/Sanders manifesto (no, this is not a mistake, Biden has taken Sander’s mandates as his own), we realize how much trouble our nation and we as individuals, would be in when such draconian totalitarian policies were enacted, as they surely would be. President Trump is a man who respects law and order, unlike the Democratic governors and mayors who persist in allowing rampant looting, anarchy and lawlessness in their states and towns, and unlike the Democratic candidates who continue to want to defund, or “reallocate the money for” the police — and who not only accept the violence and mayhem in these states and cities but are using these crises as blackmail — saying all will stop after they are elected. Basically it boils down to freedom and opportunity versus dictatorship and socialism — the government in every area of our lives versus the constitutional freedoms we now enjoy. This is not an election of personalities — it’s an election to save the country from those forces that want to “transform” it into something that is the antithesis of this country’s founding, changing for the worst the most wonderful country on Earth.

Montecito hotel undergoes updates and deferred maintenance before reopening next year
California schools will now provide a transparent and fair process for all students involved in a sexual assault allegation, according to a bill that passed Sunday in the State Assembly and won the Senate’s concurrence vote 31 to 8. State Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, is the author of SB 493, titled “Gender Equity in Education: Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence.” It requires state-funded colleges and universities to adopt “commonsense processes that ensure a fair, transparent, consistent response to reports of sexual violence.” To do that, the bill will make it easier for students to report sexual harassment and violence by educating students on their rights and how to report. The bill also requires schools to respond to off-campus incidents that could interfere with students’ education. In addition, the bill will prohibit “courtroomstyle direct cross-examination of survivors by their assailants or attorneys,” something Please see BILL on A8

Although ridership on public transit has waned since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ventura County Transportation Commission continues to bring essential workers from Ventura to Santa Barbara. Ridership is down 67% for the Coastal Express routes 80-89 northbound to Santa Barbara, according to Darrin Peschka, a VCTC spokesperson in government and community relations. “One of the things we see is the nature of the riders on the Coastal Express. Many of them are essential workers in Santa Barbara, so they’re still using public transit,” Ms. Peschka told the News-Press. “The best way to attract ridership is to give people peace of mind so that they feel safe riding public transit.” She said the VCTC has taken a number of steps to do this, including: requiring that masks be worn and

Founded in 2002, the nonprofit advocates for families living in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has created new hurdles for the foundation, this year’s theme for the Gold Ribbon fundraising campaign is “Never, Never, Never Give Up” in honor of this year’s featured child, Axel Penaloza. Axel was diagnosed with a germ cell tumor in 2017 and spent a total of nine months at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles during his recovery.
He endured chemotherapy, three brain surgeries and radiation, But during his recovery, Axel wrote an inspiring letter for other children battling cancer. To help children like Axel, Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation provides families with financial, educational and emotional support. Eryn Shugart, the foundation’s interim executive director, told the News-Press that because of COVID-19, many of the foundation’s families need the nonprofit’s help now more than ever. She noted certain pandemic restrictions have cost families their jobs and that more local families are now unable to buy food or clothing, or pay rent or medical expenses. In response, the foundation is increasing it services and is now serving a greater number of families, Ms. Shugart said. In addition to the pandemic’s impact on families, COVID-19 has caused a void in fundraising, she said. For the first time, the Please see TEDDY BEAR on A4

foundation is unable to hold its annual luncheon at Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara. According to Ms. Shugart, the Montecito event normally brings in more than $135,000 in donations every year for the nonprofit’s Gold Ribbon Campaign. In lieu of the luncheon, the foundation is working to add more local sponsors and plans to host a virtual silent auction from Sept. 25 through Sept. 30. You can see the auction items during a viewing event with social distancing from 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 26 outside Nurture Cottage, 1213 Coast Village Road, Montecito. Items include TV and movie star Tim Allen’s voice on your voicemail greeting; fashion items from Burberry, Gucci, Prada, Hermes and Balenciaga; a David Yurman necklace; a gift basket from Field and Fort; a two-night stay and dinner in Palm Springs; children’s formal wear courtesy of Macy’s and more. Online auction bidding will close on Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m. For more information about the auction, visit www.32auctions.com/TBCF2020. And Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation has raised more than $7,000 in grocery store gift cards as well as double the number of support groups offered for Tri-Counties families during the pandemic. The foundation is also collaborating with other local organizations to host a Virtual Family Connection Event via Zoom. Ms. Shugart said the Sept. 19 event is a great way for children and their families to enjoy the company of those with similar experiences. email: bmackley@newspress.com

SANTA BARBARA NEWS-PRESS
Horoscope.com Tuesday, September 1, 2020
Aries - Your mind may be a little cloudy most of the day, Aries, and you could find it hard to ground yourself. It may be that you’re trying to navigate by the stars, but unfortunately, the clouds have moved in and there are no reference points to be seen. The good news is that the skies should clear later, and you’ll find there’s nothing but smooth sailing for the rest of the night. Taurus - Praise you may receive this morning could make you feel on top of the world, Taurus, but try not to let this feeling go to your head. Stay modest despite the lavish praise that may be showered on you. By evening, you won’t be able to get by on just talk alone. Actions will speak much louder than words and it’s important that you have some sort of plan. Gemini - Things should improve for you as the day progresses, Gemini. The key is to stay loose and not be concerned with the situation’s outcome. The future is uncertain. You shouldn’t depend on something that may or may not pan out the way you want. There could be some conflict between you and someone with a strong ego in the morning, but this should resolve itself by evening. Cancer - Your emotions could feel restricted today, Cancer, a feeling that may be difficult to shake. Take this opportunity to calm down and relax. You’ll enjoy the good times more when you give your body the rest it needs. Always pushing for bigger and better adventures may be fun, but it can leave you too tired to fully appreciate them. Leo - It could be hard to find your footing early in the day, Leo. You may be better off sleeping in. Have a good breakfast and relax in the morning. By evening, you’ll be refreshed, recharged, and ready to take on the town. Your emotions may feel restricted, which could make it difficult to fully express yourself. You’d be better off turning this energy inward now. Virgo - Use the morning to take care of yourself, Virgo. You could be so concerned with the world and the shared environment that you forget to take care of you. Use the early afternoon to reflect and meditate. Gather facts from your inner state and use the information to create a plan for the future. Be flexible in your +*#!2 +1$)"$ approach. Libra - Get to some water today
and reconnect with this element, Libra. Like lapping waves against the shore, you may be gently changing the landscape around you with each word or action. Don’t underestimate your inner strength. It could be that you seem overpowered by the things going on around you, but don’t let them keep you from being the person you truly are. Scorpio - Emotionally speaking, you should be doing quite well today, Scorpio, especially in the morning. This is a good time to take charge of projects that require definite leadership. Don’t think that you’re inferior to the people around you. Act like you belong in a leadership role and you’ll find that others will automatically support you in that position. You have what it takes to lead. Sagittarius - You may get frustrated today, Sagittarius, especially in the morning when other people’s egos seem to be strong. It could be difficult to relate to people who simply refuse to accept any opinion but their own. Things should mellow out by afternoon. You’ll find people start to see things from your perspective. Remain confident in your position despite the vacillation of others. Capricorn - People may see you as the personification of drama, especially this morning, Capricorn. This is a good time to express your emotions and get things out of your system. Be sure to release whatever pentup emotion you have inside. By afternoon, it might be a good idea to settle down and lay low. Turn your energy inward, come to your center, and plan what needs to get done. Aquarius - There may be a damper on your mood today, Aquarius, especially in the morning. It could seem as if everyone is having fun but you. Having a good time is more a state of mind than anything else. Try not to get trapped in a lousy mindset. Late afternoon is a good time to ground your emotions. Operate from a point of stability instead of jealousy. Pisces - There may be some conflict today, Pisces, especially in the morning. Your general mood is quite good, but there’s a strong force asking you to be more realistic in your approach. The last thing you want is for someone else to throw a bucket of water on your raging fire of fun, but this is likely to happen unless you address the reality of the situation.

Codeword is a fun game with simple rules, and a great way to test your knowledge of the English language. Every number in the codeword grid is ‘code’ for a letter of the alphabet. Thus, the number 2 may correspond to the letter L, for instance. All puzzles come with a few letters to start. Your first move should be to enter these letters in the puzzle grid. If the letter S is in the box at the bottom of the page underneath the number 2, your first move should be to find all cells numbered 2 in the grid and enter the letter S. Cross the letter S off the list at the bottom of the grid. Remember that at the end you should have a different letter of the alphabet in each of the numbered boxes 1- 26, and a word in English in each of the horizontal and vertical runs on the codeword grid.

Flower Valley Golf Classic canceled By MARK PATTON NEWS-PRESS SENIOR WRITER
Next month’s Flower Valley Golf Classic has been canceled by the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation out of concern about the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, originally set for May 15, had been rescheduled to Oct. 23. The foundation’s Special Events Committee opted to cancel the tournament altogether, however, while the Santa Barbara County Health Department’s guidelines for social distancing and other coronavirus measures remain in effect. The next Flower Valley Golf Classic tournament will be held on May 21, 2021 at the Mission Club in Vandenberg Village. The tournament is the major fundraiser for the nonprofit Lompoc Hospital District Foundation. The 30-yearold foundation provides philanthropic support for capital improvements and equipment purchases for Lompoc Valley Medical Center and the Comprehensive Care Center. It also offers a healthrelated lecture series for the community. It is continuing fundraising efforts for the purchase of eight patient monitoring systems for the hospital’s Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. The systems are used on more than 1,500 patients annually. For more information about the tournament, contact foundation president Alice Milligan at 805-736-4005. Details about the foundation are available at lhdfoundation. org.

The spring season of 2020 may have ended too soon for San Marcos High baseball pitcher Chase Hoover, but he liked how quickly the summer came together. “I’d say that 2020 definitely turned into a win, the junior left-hander said after committing last week to NCAA Division 1 power Texas Christian University. “I got the opportunity to earn a scholarship from my dream school. The Horned Frogs’ offer came after Hoover struck out six of the 10 batters he faced three weeks ago at the Underclass Area Code Games in Atlanta, Ga. “When it happens, it happens fast, he said. “Once schools get interested in you, it starts to move pretty fast. Hoover, 16, was making a name for himself at San Marcos last spring when the COVID-19 pandemic prematurely ended his sophomore season. He struck out 40 batters and allowed just one run during 19 2/3 innings to post an earned run average of 0.36 for the Royals. Jacob Pepper, whose sevenyear tenure as San Marcos’ coach ended last season, has known Hoover ever since he started coming to his baseball camps at age 10. “You don’t see a lot of lefties, and I was a lefty pitcher myself, Pepper said. “He’s always thrown a hard fastball and had nice athletic ability, with a real natural pitching motion. “Chase was really showing his potential with how much he’d improved between his freshman and sophomore years, working hard to make the corrections necessary to pitch at a higher level. He was just going about his business and being super-

His first competition came at the Trosky National Team college showcase at the MLB Spring Training facilities shared by the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals. “It was a good starting place for me to get warmed up after the long break of quarantine, he said, “although I have been lifting five times a week and working on all areas of my game. I’ve definitely been developing my changeup. “I had to grind it out with what I had during quarantine, but I like how I competed during the summer. So did college scouts from several Pac-12 and Big West Conference schools. Hoover, who has compiled a grade-point average of 4.4, had also attracted the attention of Yale University. His Area Code Games debut came with one out in the fourth inning and the bases loaded against a team comprised mostly of players from Texas. Although Connor Bennett hit his first pitch for a two-run double, it was the only hit the San Marcos lefthander would allow in the tournament. Hoover struck out Texas’ next two batters to help his team hold

on for an 8-8 tie. “That’s the kind of resilience that kid has,â€? Pepper said. “You always want to keep your composure and stay competitive,â€? Hoover said. “Even if I give up a three-run home run, I want to get the next guy out.â€? He also pitched two innings of a 1-1 tie against a roster of mostly Northern Californians. He allowed no hits and just one walk with four strikeouts. Kirk Saarloos, TCU’s pitching coach, soon informed Myers of his interest in his protĂŠgĂŠ. Hoover, the eldest of Tim and Kelly Hoover’s three sons, took an unofficial visit to Fort Worth, Tex. just a few days later.

“I felt right at home as soon as I saw their campus, he said. “I loved Fort Worth and the vibe I got from the town. The campus was beautiful and I really enjoyed my time there. “I remember watching TCU play on TV when I was younger, thinking what a cool baseball environment they had. He also likes the environment that’s being developed at San Marcos. He’s been working out with senior Henry Manfredonia, a fellow pitcher and corner infielder who has committed to UCSB, as
well as junior catcher Joaquin Sandoval. The Royals return eight of their top 11 players from last year including the entire pitching staff. “It’s definitely the consensus of the players that we’re going to go win CIF next year, Hoover said. “We’re all willing to do the work — do whatever it takes to get that done. And it can’t start too soon for the future Horned Frog. email: mpatton@newspress.com

said his team has been working with Four Seasons since April to understand the implications COVID-19 has on the health and safety of Biltmore guests. Mr. Warner’s team expressed “a lack of confidence” with reopening protocols that Four Seasons put forth and will spend the remodel exploring more thorough protocols, including state-of-the-art decontamination technologies. “I will not put the staff, our guests, or the hotel’s reputation at risk in a rush to reopen,” Mr. Warner said. During the revamp, The Biltmore will get the boilers of its HVAC systems replaced, the decks and tiles of its bungalow cottages repaired, and cracks on its brick pathways fixed. According to the information provided by Mr. Medel, the hotel’s rooms will be upgraded with new furniture, fixtures, and equipment to address COVID-19. In addition to new paint, lighting, and ceiling fans, the rooms’ carpeting will be replaced with wood flooring and their draperies with wood shutters. The hotel’s Coral Casino Beach & Cabana Club will also be revamped with deferred maintenance repairs around its pool, main hallway, locker rooms, showers and steam room. Its fitness room will get new fitness equipment, ceiling fans, lightning, and painting, the Cabana new
painting, carpets, awnings, and chaise lounges, and the Coral Café will receive new paint, heaters, ceiling fans, lighting, and speakers. While some of Mr. Warner’s other properties such as San Ysidro Ranch are open, the hotelier said The Biltmore is a different kind of hotel that must remain closed until the best possible protocols are implemented. “Unlike my San Ysidro Ranch property, The Biltmore is a high indoor-capacity hotel with added risk for person-to-person contact and aerosolized/droplet exposure that in my opinion has not yet been adequately mitigated,” he
said. In May, Mr. Warner and his team submitted a letter to Four Seasons describing its plans for equipping the hotel so it can safely accommodate guests. Under this plan, Mr. Warner is targeting a reopening for early or mid-2021. While The Biltmore is closed, its employees remain on furlough. Mr. Warner stated, “I hope that, together, we can endure these unprecedented times (like we did with the Montecito debris flow) and come back to a hotel experience that is better and safer than ever.” email: jgrega@newspress.com
currently required by the Trump administration. This cross-examination raises the standard of evidence above “more likely than not occurred,” to which Sen. Jackson says “clear and convincing evidence” is “often impossible to prove in cases of sexual harassment and assault.” “Betsy DeVos’s Title IX regulations jeopardize the rights and safety of student survivors by discouraging students from reporting abuse,” Sen. Jackson said in a news release. “SB 493 will ensure that California’s educational institutions protect survivors through policies that treat them with dignity and respect, while ensuring a fair and transparent process for those accused.” The bill also aims to ensure adequate, trauma-informed training for school officials, along with requiring colleges and universities to publish the contact information for individuals responsible for investigating complaints and instituting corrective measures. The bill cited a Campus Climate Survey Validation Study of 25,000 college students, which found that one in five women and one in 14 men experience sexual assault in college. The study also noted common underreporting of sexual harassment and violence. “One of the many harmful results of campus sexual harassment and assault is the pushout that often occurs when schools do not take appropriate steps to respond to these
Mary Ellen Logan passed away August 28 at the age of 86 after a one-year bout with leukemia. She grew up in East Lansing, Michigan and was the daughter of Edward and Nina Eckert. Her father was Director of Roadside Development for the state of Michigan, who played a leading role in the early development and expansion of roadside parks in the US (now known as rest stops) and her mother Nina Eckert was a part-time home economics teacher and sorority mother. Mary Ellen received a Regents Alumni Scholarship to the University of Michigan, graduated in 1956 and did graduate studies at the Michigan School of Education. Performing at a Mu Phi music recital, she met the oldest son of the hostess, the love of her life, Michigan medical student, Robert G. Logan. They were married in East Lansing in 1956. After his University of Michigan residency, they moved to Santa Barbara in 1963, where Dr. Logan practiced endocrinology at Sansum Medical Clinic for 31 years. Mary Ellen was President of Sansum Diabetes Research Auxiliary. She taught and played piano and other musical instruments in several schools and churches, and was a piano teacher to many Santa Barbara schoolchildren. She was a strong advocate for mental health. For ten years she helped create and teach “Mental Health Matters,” with Santa Barbara’s Mental Wellness Center. She was also a member of the board of Postpartum Support International (PSI) for 25 years. Their mission is to get information about postpartum depression to new mothers. She created the first PSI poster, and, with her husband, the first brochure for fathers, “Helping a Father and Family through Postpartum Depression,” and helped mail both to over 30,000 families in over ten countries. Mary Ellen was President of her Tri Delta sorority alumnae group and also of Santa Barbara Music Teachers. She is survived by Robert Logan, her husband of 64 years, sons Don and Mark, both living in Santa Barbara, and daughter, Elizabeth Soldahl, living in South Carolina. She is survived by nine “above average!” grandchildren and one great-grandson, who along with Don, Mark and Elizabeth enriched and challenged her life with music, faith, tennis, golf, humor, gardening, travel and great joy! A woman of strong faith, the day before she passed away, she whispered, “the Lord is coming.” Some of her favorite expressions were: “A place for everything, and everything in its place,”and “I know someone who says a prayer when they hear an ambulance siren,””April Fool’s, I got you on that one,”and “Mimi doesn’t like motorcycles!” There will be a service for family members only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santa Barbara Mental Wellness Center.

DEMAYO, Stella
Stella DeMayo, born Stella Karacoliff, died peacefully at home on the morning of Aug. 17, 2020, with family by her side. She was 97 years old. Stella was born November 8, 1922 in Bridgeport, Connecticut and was the second of four children born to Macedonian immigrants, Anna and Trifon Karacoliff. Stella and her siblings enjoyed Seaside Park, skiing, socializing in the neighborhood, helping at their parents’ small restaurant and later dancing to the era’s big band music on the weekends. Stella was a Certified Registered Nurse after attending the University of Vermont and completing her residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport Connecticut. She married her best friend, William Samuel DeMayo on June 18, 1956. They remained in Connecticut until 2003, at which time Bill and Stella left their native state to join their two daughters in California. There, in the Jalama Valley, a 300 acre ranch outside of Lompoc became their home where their eldest daughter Neda founded Return to Freedom (RTF), a national non-profit wild horse conservation organization. They both enjoyed spending time with family and friends and being part of the growth of RTF, which operated a sanctuary and educational programs. Stella and her husband also enjoyed the performing arts and attended many theatrical productions with their daughter Diana DeMayo-Brown and her husband Thomas Brown. Stella was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years when Bill passed in May of 2014. She was passionate about history and enjoyed reading, organic gardening, herbs, the arts and spirituality. Remaining close to her Macedonian heritage she was a fantastic cook and loved creating Mediterranean dishes. In the 1970s Stella was one of the very first students of the Course in Miracles and continued her spiritual journey throughout her life. May 6, 1928 – August 28, 2020
Juan José Huerta was born on May 6, 1928 in the small town of Villa Guerrero, Jalisco, Mexico to Pablo and Maria (Garcia). If you were the listening type, Juan had stories to share and preferably with some mariachi music playing in the background.
Obituary notices are published daily in the Santa Barbara News-Press and also appear on our website www.newspress.com
The stories he was most proud of were of his childhood and how at a very young age he was taught the importance of hard work. He was fourteen years old when he traveled by foot for nine days to the state of Nayarit to harvest tobacco. Many people would make the trek to the tobacco ranches to earn 4.50 pesos a day – a fortune compared to the .75 pesos a day he’d earn in his village. “Yo no quiera estar pobre. Yo queria tener algo, ser alguien, como los rancheros, con un buen caballo, sus ranchos grandes y llenos de vacas. Yo queria ser esa persona.”
To place an obituary, please email the text and photo(s) to obits@newspress.com or fax text only (no photos) to (805) 966-1421. Please include your name, address, contact phone number and the date(s) you would like the obituary to be published. Photos should be in jpeg format with at least 200 dpi. If a digital photo is not available, a picture may be brought into our office for scanning. We will lay out the obituary using our standard format. A formatted proof of the obituary and the cost will be emailed back for review and approval.
He worked two tobacco seasons and earned enough money to buy a small ranch. Then his dad bought him a nice horse to keep him close to home. Juan fell in love with charreada (rodeo) and became quite good at it, but according to him the horse deserves all of the credit. “Yo tenia mi buena pistola, sombrero de charro y una buena chamarra. Fuí de los buenos para eso del caballo, porque si el caballo no sirve, uno, como hombre no puede hacer nada.”
The minimum obituary cost to print one time is $150.00 for up to 1.5” in length — includes 1 photo and up to 12 lines of text, approximately 630 characters; up to approximately 930 characters without a photo. Add $60.00 for each additional inch or partial inch after the first 1.5”; up to approximately 700 characters per additional inch.
He left Villa Guerrero and headed north to the U.S. in search of opportunity. He arrived in Santa Barbara in 1950, and first picked lemons in Goleta, then did railroad work near Tajiguas and helped with the building of the bridge near Dos Pueblos Ranch and the Tecolote Tunnel. In 1958, he was introduced to Mr. Sake “Willy” and Mr. Ochi. They introduced him to gardening and the job he would do proudly until he was 87.
All Obituaries must be reviewed, approved, and prepaid by deadline. We accept all major credit cards by phone; check or cash payments may be brought into our office located at 715 Anacapa Street.
Señor Huerta lived, worked, loved and played hard. He was proud of his Mexican roots, and madly in love with the City of Santa Barbara. Juan was thankful for the many years he lived. He is survived by his wife, Luz Elena Huerta, many children, grandchildren and brothers and sisters.

incidents,” the bill fact sheet said. The senator also argues that schools’ failure to adequately address, investigate and protect students from these incidents deprives students of their right to equal access to education. SB 493 is now headed to the governor’s desk. Sen. Jackson also recently sponsored a bill that passed last week and requires companies with 100 or more employees to submit annual data to the state detailing pay by gender, race, ethnicity and job category. The bill is intended to close the race and gender pay gap. email: gmccormick@newspress.com
