Preparing your home for Photography If you want the images of your home to have the greatest impact, a few simple preparations guidelines apply. Remember, first impressions count– which is why is it important that your property is presentable both inside and out.
Before the shoot Kitchen/Living Areas
Bathrooms
Eliminate clutter– remove unnecessary pieces of furniture, personal items, family photos, pet bowls/beds and put away any ‘knick-knacks’ ie. remote controls, magazines, hobbyist collections, etc. Clean all surfaces, floors, tiles, mirrors, windows and shutters and remove any spider webs Remove magnets and/or photos from the fridge
Remove kitchen cleaning items ie. sponges, soap
Outside
Replace any broken light globes or lamps
Hide any bins or waste baskets Hide all visible electrical cables/cords/chargers Fresh flowers and fruit are always welcome
Bedrooms
De-clutter Make beds Ensure floors are clear and clean Put away clothes or personal items Clear bedside tables and vanity units
Clean bathrooms thoroughly– remove any mould and water stains, ensure shower screen and mirrors are spotless Remove all bathroom clutter and personal items ie. toothbrushes, hair dryers, bath mats Replace used towels with folded, fresh and towels Put toilet seats down
Mow lawns (including council strip) Rake leaves Sweep paved areas including driveway and verandah Remove any oil stains from driveway Weed garden and prune trees/shrubs Remove/hide bins and gardening equipment Clean windows and flyscreens Clean pool and remove pool cleaner/toys Tidy garage Clean front door and matt
Day of shoot
Open all curtains and blinds Remove cars from driveway Turn on all interior lights including lamps
Secure pets in another location Straighten beds and furniture Ensure all surfaces are clean and clear
