Richard Wingfield Envision Design Suggested for all levels We all want to keep our children safe and managing their use and access to technology can be a challenge these days. Technology and the internet, like many things in our lives today, can be a wonderful and empowering tool and at the same time a dangerous and scary place for both parents and children. Providing a safe technology environment for your children today encompasses much more than simply managing their screen time. In this session, we will discuss a number of options for working with your children to maximize the benefits of technology in a safe and fun environment.

We will discuss brain development in early childhood, windows of opportunity, as well as the consequences of missing these windows. As engineers of children’s development, we should take pride in giving their developing brains tools to create a strong foundation. For success, all we need is a clear understanding of our role, knowledge of brain development in early childhood and the conviction that what we do daily gives each child a strong foundation for their future.

Monique Smith and Cindy Orlando St. Cecilia Catholic School Suggested for lower school A student-led conference is a time for students to share with their parents the academic and non-academic performance and growth they have demonstrated over the course of a school year. The philosophy behind studentled conferences is that the teacher, parents and students are all important participants in striving to improve the child’s education. Google Sites provides a platform for students to create a digital portfolio where they have the opportunity to select artifacts, showing both growth and failure, to deepen their connection to the content and take ownership of their learning. The curating, sharing and reflective process of a digital portfolio lends itself to students learning about their digital footprint as well as using 21st century skills as they become curators of artifacts and reflective thinkers. Participants will learn about using Google Sites as a digital portfolio tool and the ease of integration with G-Suite.

Jacob Lindsey Second Baptist School Suggested for all levels In its “Standards for Students,” the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) considers digital citizenship to be of paramount importance for students learning in the 21st century. But what

does this commonly used, seemingly buzzwordy term really mean? Does digital citizenship merely imply setting up and enforcing guardrails on our online behavior, or are there also positive mindsets, skills, and opportunities that we have the responsibility--as educators--to promote as well? This session intends to start a conversation about digital citizenship as well as its impact on instruction, assessment, and curriculum. All grade levels and content areas are encouraged to attend.
