ARCHITECTURE Degree Programs Bachelor of Fine Arts Professional Master of Architecture Minor Architecture students at SCAD learn to apply historical, cultural, theoretical and aesthetic concepts in combination with technical and practical expertise to design buildings that add value to the world and how people experience it. SCAD students study within living laboratories and have the opportunity to study on three continents — in the U.S., Europe and Asia. They gain acute awareness of how citizens move through ever-evolving built environments and develop a sense of how rural and urban cultural contexts drive design. SCAD’s professional Master of Architecture program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), and the university’s rich environment and legacy of innovation are recognized with awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), among others.

SCAD’S ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM WAS AWARDED THE LARGEST GRANT IN NCARB HISTORY FOR CREATING A GROUNDBREAKING INTERACTIVE GAME THAT SIMULATES PROFESSIONAL ARCHITECTURE PRACTICE ENVIRONMENTS. 8

INTERIOR DESIGN Degree Programs Bachelor of Fine Arts Master of Arts Master of Fine Arts Minor Our innovative programs set the standard for a leading-edge building arts education. SCAD’s interior design program continues making history as the only school in the history of the annual DesignIntelligence’s “America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools” with four consecutive No. 1 rankings — taking top honors in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. SCAD is also the only university to have received top honors for both undergraduate and graduate interior design programs in these rankings. SCAD’s interior design programs in Savannah and Atlanta are accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), affirming that graduates are fully prepared to step into professional practice. Interior design graduates go on to work as interior designers, lighting designers, space planners, hospitality designers and more.

URBAN DESIGN Degree Program Master of Urban Design Urban designers understand that the strength of a community is in the union of its built environment and the human-centered events that fill its spaces. SCAD urban design students learn to balance historical continuity with formal experiments and technological innovation to design cities that work. Within the curriculum, students develop case studies of cities and explore culturally enriching amenities and civic processes for urban resilience. They work on real-world city planning initiatives with municipalities and institutions focused on urban growth.

SCAD URBAN DESIGN GRADUATES ARE WORKING AS CITY MANAGERS AND PLANNERS, ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNERS, FORM-BASED CODE CONSULTANTS, LANDSCAPE DESIGNERS AND ZONING ADMINISTRATORS.

SCAD MUSEUM OF ART SAVANNAH An internationally renowned city, Savannah, Georgia, is home to one of the most celebrated urban plans in the world and a cityscape that includes both historic and contemporary architecture. In this living laboratory, students study inside some of the university’s most renowned historic preservation and adaptive reuse projects. A work of art itself, the award-winning SCAD Museum of Art is a center for learning at the heart of the university — students attend classes, career workshops, lectures and more here. The museum complex incorporates the oldest surviving antebellum railroad depot in the country and in 2014 was named one of the 11 coolest buildings in North America by CNN. Mounting more than 20 exhibitions annually, the museum shows a range of work by acclaimed artists and presents SCAD student and alumni work to a global audience. The building employs sustainable, renewable materials and energy-saving technologies throughout its nearly 65,000 square feet of exhibition, classroom and gallery spaces.

EICHBERG HALL SAVANNAH Connected to the SCAD Museum of Art by the expansive Alex Townsend Memorial Courtyard, Eichberg Hall is the academic home of more than 1,000 building arts students. The four-story, 66,000-square-foot building was originally built as part of the Central of Georgia Railroad complex and was completed in 1887. The Romanesquestyle edifice features loft spaces, tall windows with stained glass, and red brick and terra-cotta ornamentation. In nearly 47,000 square feet of design studios located behind Eichberg Hall, built in 1853 as part of the largest surviving antebellum rail complex in the country, students have access to a state-of-the-art materials room, model shop and studio space as well as drafting and graphic classrooms.

CLARENCE THOMAS CENTER FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION The nearly 11,000-square-foot Clarence Thomas Center for Historic Preservation was built in 1908 in the Classic Revival style as an orphanage and convent for the Missionary Sisters of the Franciscan order. As a child, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was an altar boy in this building, thus the facility bears his name. Following an extensive restoration and rehabilitation in Fall 2009, the handsome three-story brick building became home to the historic preservation program. In January 2010, Justice Thomas returned to Savannah for the building's dedication.

SCAD ATLANTA SCAD undergraduate and graduate interior design students can study full time at SCAD Atlanta and take advantage of the university's location in this metropolitan hub. The Midtown location puts students in close proximity with leading employers and the facility encompasses 312,000 square feet of academic and administrative space including classrooms, digital labs, galleries and the ACA Library of SCAD. SCAD Atlanta interior design also offers students elective courses in architecture, architectural history and historic preservation, providing them with a greater building arts context. Each year, architecture students avail themselves of the city's professional design community and the built and natural environments during a multi-day architecture workshop that includes site visits, design presentations and networking opportunities.

SCADPAD Small Spaces, Big Ideas This century belongs to the city. Around the world, millions of people are returning to the urban core. To address the growing need for affordable, efficient and sustainable housing, SCADpad began as a building arts project to reimagine obsolete 20th-century parking decks as 21st-century vertical neighborhoods. A vision for urban evolution to test the livability of micro-dwelling in an otherwise uninhabitable space, SCADpad is a prime example of our unique, collaborative approach bringing an entirely new concept to life.
