Dear Reader, May I suggest, that you close this magazine and take another look at the cover. The new style with a photo covering the full front cover is a significant step in the continuous development of Thai-Danish Trade News. Five years ago, the Jirst issue of Thai-Danish Trade News was published as an humble newsletter through the cooperation between the Royal Danish Embassy, the Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Scand-Media Corp. Ltd. Since then, the number of pages has steadily increased until today, Thai-Danish Trade News has become the full flexed business magazine you are holding in your hand right now. This something to be proud of. Ultimately, it is the joint achievement of our advertisers in both Thailand and Denmark, whose support and faith in the magazine has made it all possible. The decision to let this development be reflected also on the cover of the magazine was taken at the Board Meeting of the Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce in May. In line with this development, the Board and the Royal Danish Embassy has furthermore decided to seek an expansion of the membership of the Chamber among the several hundred companies in Denmark known to be interested in or already doing business with companies in Thailand. This issue of Thai-Danish Trade News will be part of this promotion package to be mailed out in August this year. Should you know companies with whom you do business in Denmark, which are not yet a member, don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Monica Holmgren, Executive Director of the Chamber's Secretariat, or Mr. Henrik Petersen, Head of the Commercial Section of the Royal Danish Embassy.
The photo on the cover also reflect an increased frequency in exchange of high level visits between Thailand and Denmark. In June, HE. Pongpol Adireksarn, Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives visited Denmark as the guest of the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Agricultural Council of Denmark and the Danish Ministry of Environment and Energy. In April, HE. Pisit Leeahtam, Deputy Minister for Finance, visited Denmark as the guest of the Confederation of Danish Industries and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be a keynote speaker at a conference about the Asian crisis and its impact on Denmark and Danish companies. And at time of press, HE MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, is planning for a visit to Denmark most likely to take place June 18 this year as the guest of the Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce Scand-Media Corp. Ltd. Royal Danish Embassy
Both the Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Royal Danish Embassy in Bangkok assist every day Danish and Thai companies in creating new business relations and indeed in establishing new personal relations between both Thai and Danish businessmen. To be parl of this network, now to be expanded with even more companies back in Denmark, I urge you to contact the Chamber's office to join the club of major Thai and Danish companies already active in the expansion of the Thai Danish trade.

Carlsberg's international advertisinE campaign is well-known world wide. In some countries, however, the th.eme has been localized. In Thailand, the slogan goes "The Number One Taste World Wide", and the truck has been replaced with a rice barge on the Chao Phraya. Most people know the print advertising with a Carlsberg
truck transporting beer around into many different parts of the world. This is
Carlsberg's I nternational Advertising Campaign, which you can find in many
international magazines. And actually it is not only a
truck which carries Carlsberg around. In Thailand, it is a river boat, in Scotland a train, an aquaplane in Canada etc. In the electronic media,
berg is currently considering to bring in the Danish iazz band "Tin Roof Jazz Band" in October this year for a series of performances
in pubs around Thailand. Sports on local as well as international level is another area where Carlsberg has shown a special interest in football (soccer) and
athletics. Carlsberg will be the chief official sponsor of the Asian Games to be hosted by Thailand and the

A further consequence of Carlsberg's involvement in sports is that you willoften find Carlsberg supporting such sponsorships on satellite sports channels. ln the different local markets around the world where you can find Carlsberg, localcampaigns has been allowed as long as they keep the same high level of cre-

"Jebsen & Jessen is looking to acquire business in Thailand which will add

The final examination for
the International Baccalaureate is the same for students all over the world and
the examination gives access to further education at universities worldwide. Taking in students with no or very limited Danish
language skills is in fact nothing new to Herlufsholm. For decades, the school has been the favorite choice of 28

Another unique feature
is the Herlovian network. Once a 'Herlovianer' students remain a member of the school network for the rest of their lives. They meet
informally at reunions or at the Shoot, or get together abroad, and in generalsupport one another.
Herlufsholm is a private school. Even though it receives public grants, like all private schools in Denmark, boarders as well as day pupils pay fees. Boarders' fees cover instruction, board and lodg-
ing, laundry, health expenses, etc. In 1998/99, the
annual fees for boarders amount to DKK 59 600. Because the International Baccalaureate (lB) is extremely costly due to the often very smallclasses, an additional DKK 29 000 is charged.
After the age of 18 students are entitled to Danish state grants/ -loans as they are considered not resident at home.
