"Personally, it was my third visit to Ban Kog Sawang. First time we went there to see the location and hear of the plans. Second time was when we donated the funds - now this was the third time and still it made a
deep impression indeed. The pre-school has opened up with 45 registered pupils later to be referred to as the "Margrethe 1 Class". "We were received with full honours with flower garlands, music and dance performance. The whole village had gathered to witness the opening of the kin-

through Den Danske Bank with mixed credits provided by the Danish development cooperation agency, Danida. The project has taken almost six years to prepare and been
developed in Thailand by Mr. Steen Lekso. The main purpose is to show the Thai authorities the most efficient way to man-
age the road construction and maintenance process. By the end of the day, the project should among others lead to Thai road

"The project can ultimate lead to huge savings for Thailand," says Mr. Kyndi.
"Every time you save one centimeter of asphalt on a road
road. This project may also help improve the professional quality consciousness of the Thai road
construction engineers who sometimes really need to pull themselves together," Mr. Kyndi adds. Apart from 10 Danish engineers from the Danish Road Directorate who have at different stages been involved in the pro-
cess, twelve Thai engineers have been in Denmark on a five months training course.
In SriRacha, between Pattaya and Cholburi, a training camp has been established,
of 2001, when the Department of Highways will have to carry on the project alone.
Working in 60 countries The Danish Road Directorate is primarily responsible for manag-
ing the Danish road network. Exporting its knowhow started only some twenty years ago. Today, the road directorate is involved in over 60 countries as consultants in construction or maintenance of roads. "Danish engineers together

been nominated to 60 "manmonths" - a technical term used
as it will typically be different people who will implement the

Of similar length was

project in Nicaragua some years
ago, where the Danish engineers established an asphalt laboratory and trained local engineers in road maintenance. A prolect in the heavy range was completed seven years ago in Saudi Arabia. The Danish
Road Directorate was contracted for 190 man-months to develop a pavement and bridge management system to make
the 35.000 km of highways a more pleasant experience. Nothing beats, however, the efforts by Danish engineers put into improving the road network of China. Since 1989, Danish
engineers have spend over 1200 man-months improving the
Chinese road building capacity . This enormous task has led to the establishment of a permanent office of the Road Directorate in Beijing.
The soft loan development cooperation under the mixed credit programme has been especially succesful in Thailand The Thai government has so far borrowed more than 9OO mill. DKK. However,6O0 mill DKK is still available before the ceiling is hit. Mixed credits were introduced in 1994 as an offer not only to Denmark's development partner countries but also to other countries on the World Bank list of developing countries. These countries may apply for interest free loans over usually ten years from Danida - the Danish development cooperation agency - to finance non commercially viable projects. lt is a precondition, that the contract holder is a Danish company and that a minimum of 50 percent of the supplies are of Danish origin. Denmark has set its world wide credit line to a maximum of 5 billion DKK and stipulated, that no single country can borrow more than 30 oercent of this. This in reality means, that
the additional amount available for Thailand is 600 mill. DKK.
There are several reasons why Thailand tops the list of re-
cipients of this special form for development assistance, commercial counsellor at the Danish Embassy, Mr. Henrik Petersen explains. "Staff at the Embassy has early on spend time and energy

Santa Fe merging with Global Silverhawk In Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore the merger is expected to lead to cost rationalization in the order of DKK 5 million per year. AC's strategic business, EAC Moving & Reloca tion Services (Santa Fe) is currently being merged with Global Silverhawk all over Asia, following EAC's acquisition of Global Silverhawk in Asia last year.
In Thailand the merger is expected to leap frog Santa Fe's into a market position as number 2 within international reloca-
tion services. It is the intention to further expand the acquired activities in Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, to attain market leadership in each of these markets. lt is also the blan to transfer alternative Santa Fe's products and services, such as electronic and physical record management and outbound relocation services for the trade and

The market oosition will be number 2 in Japan, number 3 in Malaysia, number 2 in Indonesia, and number 2 in the Philippines. The merger of the organizations in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand is expected to lead to cost rationalization in the order of DKK 5 million per year. Net sales of the merged EAC
Moving & Relocation Services will jump to approx. DKK 250 million.
The acquisition will put Santa Fe in a central position both in the increasing inter-Asian
relocation business and in the relocation business in and out of Asia. For Santa Fe, the acquisition is a major step towards realising
its strategic target to cover all malor cities in Asia by latest 2005. In recent years, Santa Fe
has pursued this target by organic growth mainly in China with the opening of own offices
Global Silverhawk is focussed on oremium household goods removals whereas Santa Fe's businesses also includes higher-margin activities like office relocations, relocation services and records management. The acquired activities employ about 420 employees According to a joint statement issued by EAC Executive Vice President Mr. Niels Henrik Jensen and Santa Fe Chief Ex-
