Some elements of the Start Plus are VAT exempt (DVSA fees) and you will not be charged VAT on these. If you already have some of the elements covered by the Start Plus but would like our help with the rest of the items please contact Training Services and we can arrange a pro-rata charge for your outstanding items. You will normally take all your theory tests on the same day at the same location (multiple choice, hazard perception and case studies). You can organise most things covered in Start Plus yourself by visiting the DVSA site at https://www.gov.uk/become-lorry-bus-driver/overview Please Note: If you intend to drive for a living you will need to have a Driver Qualification Card (DQC). For this you need to pass the module 2 Case Studies theory test and the module 4 Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) practical test; both of these elements are included in the Start Plus package. The DQC is a legal requirement for you to work as a driver and once you have it you have 5 years to renew it by attending 35 hours of accredited DCPC training. For further details please contact Scania Training Services.
What to do on the day When you arrive at your chosen venue, please park in the spaces provided then follow the signs to reception and ask for your designated trainer. Your trainer will introduce themselves, take you through a full briefing and check you have the following required documentation: • A valid driving licence with the provisional entitlement • A photocard licence, for Identification purposes • Any medical aids noted on your licence e.g. glasses for driving Please note: These requirements are mandatory. Failure to provide any of these will result in that day’s lesson being cancelled.
Driving assessment Once you have your provisional licence, we’ll carry out an on-the-road driving assessment. This is to check your current driving level, so we can tailor your training to your individual needs. Our standard course lengths, including driving test are: • 5 half days for a category C • 5 half days for a category C + E • 1 day for Driver CPC courses Please note: If you and your trainer agree you require extra training after the assessment, there will be an additional charge. This will be discussed before you begin any on-road training, but remember that over 90% of our applicants complete their training and testing based on the timescales above.
Training Your training will take place at the location you have booked and, if you are on a driving based course, you will be provided with a workbook that guides you through your training. This can also be presented to prospective employers after your training as evidence of your achievements during your time with us. Training takes place in half day sessions, and you will be booked on to either a morning or afternoon session. On the day of your test you will be accompanied to the test centre by your trainer who will be there to support you and to congratulate you afterwards. The training is delivered in our modern vehicles that are equipped with the latest technology to ensure you have the best possible chance of achieving a first time pass. To view the process in action from start to finish please watch our video by visiting our Youtube channel (Scaniaunitedkingdom) and searching for ‘Scania cat c’.

Testimonials What you say about our driver training
“Just like to say first and foremost my assessment was very enjoyable. As for my driving with Ian, genuine, sincere and totally committed in seeing me succeed to the end result. Says it all really! I passed my test with only 3 minors and can’t praise these guys enough they are total professionals in every sense of the word” James Bruce
“The team at Scania were extremely helpful; the admin promptly helped with everything I needed and the training I received was great and helped me passed my test when the time came” Liam Clark
“Steve is a very professional and punctual instructor. He is a credit to both Scania and the driving community, getting my driving up to a high standard where I was able to pass both my class 1 and 2 first time” Kevin Tait
“I have recently passed my HGV Class 2 licence and this is thanks to Scania and their excellent instructors. They provided friendly, one to one, tuition and gave me the skills and confidence needed to achieve a life time ambition” Paul Davidson
“Colin was brilliant, and I had a great afternoon covering everything I needed and more, including coupling and uncoupling, road driving and reversing, so again please pass on my thanks him, he was excellent” Gary Pope
Having completed my C+E training course yesterday, I thought I really should drop you a line to say how very impressed I was with the quality of the training I received from Steve. His sheer professionalism enabled me to have a first class learning experience and, on reflection, it is clear that he taught me a great deal more than was strictly necessary to pass the DVSA test. Such preparation of course enabled me to take the test in my stride and I know I am now capable of handling road situations beyond the minimum standard required by DVSA. I will certainly recommend you to others as and when the opportunity arises. The attitude and commitment to this student were world-class. On day one, Steve went out of his way to understand my issues and tailored the training to deal immediately with those issues so that, ghosts laid, I could make the significant progress necessary to reach test standard. Ian Davison
