EVENTS GUIDE September – December 2017 Live Music | Comedy | Entertainment

The end of the summer season is creeping upon us, but there’s still chance to catch the three favourites – Movies Meets The Musicals, Scarborough Spa Orchestra and Howard Beaumont. Even when the summer comes to a close, we have an Autumn and Winter programme that’s packed full of live music, world class comedy and family entertainment. There’ll be music for everyone, as we’ll have an intimate gig with The Libertines, a double performance from Joe Longthorne, and the return of Sessions for one night only. We have tributes to Queen, The Beatles, Prince, and not forgetting Northern Soul Weekender and our 15th anniversary of Scarborough Jazz Festival. Four of the very best comedians will be heading our way including, Rob Brydon, Jimmy Carr, Stewart Lee and Henning Wehn. The fabulous Russian State Ballet and Opera House return with two shows, Tosca and Swan Lake. There’ll be even more theatre and dance with Rip It Up, Dirty Dusting and of course our annual Scarborough Dance Festival. Christmas will bring festive favourites including, this year’s panto, Jack and The Beanstalk, the Masquerade Ball, Festive Spectacular and a Magic Mike special! See you soon!

So, after years of silence and a successful crowdfunding campaign, SESSIONS will be back for one night only.

Scarborough Jazz Festival 2017 This year, Scarborough Jazz Festival celebrates its 15th birthday! As a result of this big anniversary, the team has planned a very special programme – kicking off with a bang not a whimper with the amazing New York Brass Band. Over the three days there will be big bands, songsters, keyboard virtuosos, swinging modern jazz, rising stars and everything in between. Of course, the incomparable compère Alan Barnes will be at the helm, leading us through this fabulous weekend.

A Teddy Bears’ Jazz Picnic Tickets: £4, £7 (Parent & Child), Free (18 months and under) Venue: Ocean Room The Spa Orchestra’s Kathy Seabrook along with friends of The Northern Showtime Orchestra host a special jazz infused Teddy Bears’ Picnic as part of this year’s Scarborough Jazz Festival. This highly interactive and educational session will introduce young children to jazz from around the world. There will be plenty of opportunity to sing, play and dance along, so why not bring your own shakers and maracas? And don’t forget your teddies!

The Libertines Tickets: £30 Venue: Grand Hall

The Libertines have announced the ‘…Tiddeley Om Pom Pom Tour’ of seven British Seaside towns, which includes Scarborough Spa! Featuring Peter Doherty, Carl Barât, John Hassall and Gary Powell, the band released their highly anticipated third album ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’ in September 2015.
