QUICK START GUIDE Thank you for purchasing a Scarefactory product. This Quick Start Guide will put you on the fast-track to getting your effect fully operational. For this guide, a generic control board will be used. The fundamentals covered here can be transferred to any Scarefactory control board, and are covered in much greater detail in the main instruction guide. AIR: The first order of business should be hooking up the airlines. Depending on the piece purchased, the airlines will either be attached to the effect, or loose in the box with the controller. For this example, let us assume that the airlines have been included in the box. 1) Examine the airlines. You will see that the ends of each airline have been color-coded. Valves This is to help simplify the hook-up process. SFX02 Digital 2) Examine the pneumatic cylinder(s) on your Sound Effect Unit effect. You will see that the ends of each cylinder have been color-coded. Connect SXF01 Animation Controller the airline(s) to the correspondingly colorcoded ports on the cylinder(s). Do so by pushing the airline into the port until it will go no further. 3) Examine the valve(s). You will see that they, too are color-coded. The colors on the valve body indicate which of the “Air Out” ports (Ports A & B) correspond to the color-coded airline(s). Connect the airlines at this time. 4) Locate the “Air In” port (Port P). This is where the air from your compressor connects. This port accepts 1/4” OD (Outer Diameter) airline (also called tubing). If your control board has more than one valve, the Air In ports from all of the valves will be tied together to one Air In point. Typically, this point remains 1/4” but is sometimes stepped up to 3/8” in cases where greater air flow is required. Connect the air supply from your compressor to the Air In at this time. If you do not have the proper airline to attach to your compressor, a starter kit is now available through Scarefactory, featuring everything you need to adapt the 1/4” and 3/8” tubing to a standard compressor.

CONTROLLER: Next should come the controller. An SFX01-B has been used for this example. 1) Make sure all of the number-coded Valve Leads are connected to the correspondingly numbered Control Leads. 2) Plug the red connector on the 24 VDC transformer into the controller’s Power Lead, colorcoded red. Plug the transformer into a standard US outlet (110 VAC). 3) DO NOT connect anything to the Trigger Lead at this time. SOUND: The SFX02 Digital Sound Effect Unit has been used for this example. 1) Make sure the SFX02’s number-coded Trigger Lead is connected to the corresponding Control Lead on the SFX01. 2) Plug the SFX02’s Power Supply into a standard US outlet (110 VAC) 3) Connect the Audio Out to an amplified sound system, such as a home stereo or set of computer speakers. On the SFX02, the audio out is a stereo RCA female. On the SFX01C with optional built-in digital sound effect unit, the audio out is a 3.5 mm stereo mini female jack. TRIGGER: There are several Triggers available for the SFX01-series animation controllers. For each, hook-up is exactly the same. SImply plug the Trigger’s yellow color-coded plug into the controller’s Trigger Lead, also color-coded yellow.
