SPRING2013 ^{UrbanAnalysis:ArmorySquare} Perspective Sketches in Syracuse NY

These early projects in survey and design were executed using analog techniques: sketching, hand model building, and drafting. These techniques are crucial even in this digitized age, as lessons learned at the drafting table and in the model shop have serve well in digital design processes.

These projects were developed using digital fabrication tecniques and many programs including SketchUp and Rhinoceros. In both, rotation is deployed in plan to help embed the projects within their contexts and to generate unique formal qualities. These projects also mark the begining of an exploration into sustainable design techniques, including the use of photovoltaic facades, shading of the south facade, and strategic siting and window placement. Modular construction was also investigated.

> { B a i o H o t e r u } Botique Hotel and Biofuel Plant at Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo, Japan This semester-long design project was my first introduction to working in a hyper-dense, media-saturated environment. Heavy emphasis was placed upon the embedding of a sustainable system. In this project, a tubular facade houses an algae growing system, which capitalizes on and helps to offset the dense concentrations of CO2 present in Tokyo. Phases of the algae biofuel refinement process are strategically embeded alongside traditional hotel programs, such as a karaoke bar, Japanese bathhouse and retail space. Bioluminescent algae is used, so that at night, the ^Nolli Site Plan of Shibuya Identifying alcoves, overhangs, and porticos as spaces building exudes its biologic nature as a strong coun- of refuge in a rainy, hyper-dense context terpoint to the energy-intensive, hedonistic context.

I

am at

a

third-year student in the Syracuse University.

I have had ample experience in manual drafting and model making, with more recent focus on honing my skills of digital representation. I am proficient in the use of the Adobe Suite (including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and PremierePro). I have used Sketchup, Revit, and Rhino for digital modelling while at Syracuse, and have full experience in AutoCAD. It is worthy of note that I am trained in rendering, including the use of V-Ray and Photoshop. I have generated original designs, worked on the documentation and analysis of existing projects and urban conditions, and have done environmental analysis of built works while at Syracuse. I have had the opportunity to work hands-on in renovation projects over the years, including helping a family friend draw up appropriate and historically-sympathetic plans in a rehabilitation of a local farmhouse, further galvanizing me in my interest in Historical Preservation. I have also fostered an interest in sustainable design, and through design studio projects and personal investigation, I have exposed myself to a broad array of sustainable design strategeis, both established and emerging. I have worked both individually of instruction, I am proficient

and in

in teams. Also, Spanish writing

with and

eight years conversation.

I was raised in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of Western New York, and spent four years abroad living in Toronto Canada and London England. These three unique and distinct experiences were formative in the development of my architectural interests. Through Syracuse University, I will spend the spring and fall semesters of 2015 studying in Florence Italy and at the Fisher Center in New York City. My personal interests include Photography, Sketching, Running, Skiing, Snowmobiling, Horseback Riding, Travel, Cooking, Clarinet, Piano and Tennis.
