BOSCHERINA PAVILION

The design of the pavilion is inspired by an ancient mill in Borgo D’ale. The geometrical construction is an archimede’s spiral, based on increasing radius. The structure follows the shape of the plan with a series of wooden beams supporting the copper roof. The interior is organizated like a flow that drives the visitors into a fluid path and can be setted in many different ways.

ALBA WINE CENTER

The project is part of a pre-existing historical context characterized by buildings with different functions related to wine, such as training, research, production and protection guaranteed by the Consortium Barolo and Barbaresco. The lot, mainly wine-industry, covers a vast urban space which permeability and integration with the surrounding tissue is absent, as are latent the spatial and functional relationships among the historic buildings that host the many functions. The project is based on the identification of new connections inside and outside of the lot, while minimizing the consumption of agricultural land and maximizing the redevelopment of the existing architectural heritage, with some additions to accommodate new functions. Based on an analysis of the historical building, which hosts the Wine Institute Umberto I, the relationship between the 8

closed space, formed by the sides of the court, and the permeable space, obtained by arcades that delimit and filter access to the court, is identified by its morphological type of court. The translation of this spatial relationship to the conformation of the adjacent buildings and some new buildings design, are the focuses of the interventions.

DECONSACRATED CHURCH

The imagination of a space dedicated to culture and music in the former parish of Pralormo is modeled by exploring the deep wound of the collapse in 1983 of many of the roofs of two aisles and the underlying vault. The analysis of this gap develops a dialectical relationship while contrasting with the building fabric of the town and, on a smaller scale, with the texture and morphology of the building itself. The cover portion and structures in the high clerestory affected by the collapse is restructured on the basis of a new building that preserves the signs of the passing of time and highlights the contrast between the restoration of the original parts and the insertion of new parts. Morphologically this is reflected in the design of a cover profile that follows the original, mending, as a sort of prothesis, the disconnected parts of the building. The perception of this concept occurs in the outer as well as indoors, where, to maintain a balance between formal aisles, the essential geometry is reconstructed with

a contemporary language. The surface treatment follows functional criteria: the auditorium, requires an environment sound absorption, obtained through a fabric of glass fiber and wood, and the application of sound-absorbing plasters where the shortcomings of the frescoed plaster require integrations.

COOPERATIVE WINERY IN PIEDMONT

14

The wine Cooperation of the south of Piedmont region is a large-scale phenomenon, and don’t concern just about a portion of physical geography, but also about civilization, society and the lives of many citizens. The systematic data collection, carried out through surveys, bibliographic, archival and direct sources, has allowed to build an overview of all the typological and morphological variants of cooperative winery inside the perimeter of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, areas eligible to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. The study was directed especially to evolutionary dynamics of the system of cooperative winery, from the point of view of enotechnician, constructive, settlement and landscape and in the socioeconomic development. In conclusion, the role of the architectural design has been expressed as a physical device and symbolic rethinking of the built environment

of the wine cooperation for a reconciliation of landscape and productive activities, for a compatibility that is not harmful to future generations of human activities and landscape.

RELAZIONIZZA

Relazionizza is a project that attempts to explain the latent value of a piece of city, one of the most vivacious and heterogeneous of Turin. The superstructure emerged from the conceptual framework of needs that can be summarized in four categories wich guide the project and define the cultural horizon.

18

The four themes are complementary and related to urban mobility, active citizenship, the search for a sense of collective belonging and finally the spacetime or the overcoming of physical and cultural boundaries to achieve a social and functional mix of living spaces.

CAMPOFEI

Campofei is not in a hurry, even if it’s late it is beautiful because is functional and essential, expresses the need the work is at the center, the effort is necessary the technology is understandable the tradition, like the mountain, has to be understood and then re-thinked do the stones have more memory than men? Community do not emulate, do not impose, understand the economy rises again from autarchy to prossimity build minimally, participate maximally needed and collective functions, discretion, mute and respectful buildings Walking between the essential and the possible the devices that are essential for living: existenzminimum. the ruins will not be reconstructed, they must be inhabited: hortus conclusus. The roof, restored and maintained, the timber, local and not in a hurry, the stones don’t come from far, come from the ruins, the house must somehow breathe. castelmagno cheese feels good in the crotin. allevamento

acquedotto

21

terrazzamenti

bovini, ovini e caprini donavano all’uomo i latticini, elemento principe dell’alimentazione.

BAR BORGO DORA

Enter a place, cross the threshold. Explore this space to discover. Look for your own place, conquer it. Enter it, transform it, appropriate it. Live it slowly. Day after day. Get used to every detail, every nuance. Feel yourself intimately as the owner. Bum. Someone, something. Violation. Changes. Intrusion. Helpless to assist a newcomer, a revolution. Find yourself unable to accept. Again. Stranger. Dark. An illegal immigrant in the innermost recesses of your privacy.

Be afraid of it. Time. Observe the fear slowly transformed into curiosity - What’s this? Who is he? What does he want? Two eyes look at you, they are the same as yours. Are they really the same? They hide a story, that story is waiting for you. It will not look for you, it will be there, motionless. Waiting. Only you. Will you listen? Are you ready? Are you ready to learn? Here I am. Look into my eyes and tell me your story.
