LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
S
outh Carolina’s manufacturing industry is a case study in evolution. From its beginnings as a major textile and apparel producer — an industry
that is still relevant today – to earning a notch on the electric vehicle Battery
Belt, The Palmetto State is known worldwide for its adaptability and diversified collection of manufacturing industries. SC Biz News plays a vital role in telling South Carolina’s manufacturing story. With markets in Charleston, Columbia and Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, SC Biz News has its pulse on the fast-paced sector that represents over $200 billion in economic investment statewide. SC Biz News’ coverage culminates with its annual South Carolina Manufacturing Conference and Expo, which brings together over 200 companies from across the Southeast drawing over 2,000 attendees each year to the Greenville Convention Center. Inside these pages you’ll find details about the 2023 conference. We’re excited to host the inaugural Manufacturing Mavens Awards on Thursday, Nov. 9, recognizing 10 women making an impact on South Carolina’s manufacturing industry. The luncheon will feature an allfemale panel discussion followed by a recognition event. We’re also thrilled to have Rodger Fuller, chief operating officer of Sonoco Products Co., deliver the keynote address on Friday at the annual Salute to Manufacturing Awards. Sonoco is the only Fortune 500 company headquartered in South Carolina (Hartsville, to be exact), so we’re honored to have Fuller on board. He’ll be joined by Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, who will deliver remarks following Fuller’s keynote. And we’ll have the usual lineup of quality content that you’ve come to expect at the conference, including sessions on closing the skills gap, innovation, sustainability and digital transformation. South Carolina’s manufacturing evolution signals a new era of productivity and innovation that will reverberate across the globe — thanks to each of you. We hope you enjoy the 2023 South Carolina Manufacturing Conference and Expo. Jason Thomas is the executive editor of SC Biz News. Reach him via email at jthomas@scbiznews.com. #scmfgconf
