Welcome to the 22nd Annual Harvest Fest

F

80930

all, that time of year when we feel the days getting crisper, the sun setting earlier and we admire the beautiful landscape that Mother Nature paints with her natural brush. It’s also a time to bring in the crops, prepare them for the pantry and get ready for the colder months of winter. And to celebrate these annual fall events, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts has hosted Harvest Festival for the past 22 years. It is a place where you can turn back the clock, relax and just enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds you. It is a place where you can find fruits and vegetables fresh out of the fields, ready to be eaten, or preserved to enjoy at a later date.

It is a place where you can get a taste of the great bounty that is ours, with local vendors serving up delicious food. It is a place where you can actually talk with real farmers and artisans about their products, learning how they were made, and the love and care that goes into every item. It is a place where children can enjoy the last breaths of summer – and first days of fall – while learning about the importance of fresh food and renewable products. It is a place we have visited many times to capture all these sights and sounds and listen as

vendors proudly talk about their products and farmers are embraced. This year, obviously, will be a little different. The organizers have worked hard to keep both the vendors, staff and visitors safe and protected, and for that we commend them. It is no small feat and we realize that it took much discussion and planning to come up with a workable solution. For this we are grateful because we know how much this Harvest Festival means to so many. Please enjoy this guide, filled with photos from last year’s

The Harvest Festival will run every Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from August 30 through October 11.

event and stories about this year’s event. We hope you take the time to go over to the corner of Hurd and West Shore Rd. in Bethel this year and enjoy an event that truly captures the rich heritage of our county. It will be a day well spent.

Many fall traditions center around food, and why wouldn’t that be the case considering all the lovely vegetables harvested during this time of year. Luckily for you, there is an abundance of locallysourced fresh produce at the Harvest Festival. Throw some corn (pictured above) on the grill and enjoy the few remaining weekend barbecues. Tomatoes (at left) are another popular fall staple. Make a crisp salad or homemade pasta sauce.

One of the great things about the Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is the great selection of vendors and products they showcase. Pictured at last year’s festival is Peter Andersen manning the Andersen’s Maple Farm booth with some of their pure maple syrup products. The local business is based in Long Eddy.

How to enjoy our harvest Popular festival celebrates its 22nd year

H

arvest Festival at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts has always been a staple for the region: connecting the community with the finest vendors, local farmers, and artisans. Now in its 22nd year, this may be the most important one yet. In order to have an event that is both enjoyable and safe, Bethel Woods is making some changes. Though the event may look a little different, the most important things will remain: shopping local, supporting your favorite farmers, and welcoming the return of autumn at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival. Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods returns every Sunday, August 30th thru October 11th. (You read that right – Harvest Festival will run for seven weeks!)

What’s being done to ensure your safety? Stringent protocols have been put into place to fight the spread of COVID-19 at The Harvest Festival. This includes: • Creating a one-way foot traffic pattern in all vendor areas to reduce crowding. • Increasing the footprint of the festival to disperse vendors and guests out and to reduce density. • Limiting attractions that could cause excess congregation including live music, demonstrations, and horse and buggy rides, etc. • Requiring masks to be worn at all times by all staff, vendors, and guests. • Encouraging cashless transactions while shopping. • Not permitting the sampling of vendor products. • Monitoring the density of guests admitted into the market at one time. Each year the Bethel Woods’ grounds transforms for the Harvest Festival, which is filled with the sights and smells of the fall season. While you’re enjoying all the festival has to offer, take a few moments to explore the grounds and Bethel Woods’ newest socially distant outdoor exhibit –– Meet Me At Woodstock. The augmented reality tour (as one person is enjoying in the photo at top left) will give you the chance to experience the history of the Woodstock Festival. By listening to the stories of those who attended the historic event and hearing concert recordings, you will feel like you’ve been transported to 1969 and experiencing it firsthand.

Outdoor and Socially-Distant Exhibits include: Meet Me At Woodstock –– This augmented reality tour that gives guests the chance to experience the history of the Woodstock festival firsthand. Listen to stories of those who were there, see the stage, hear concert recordings and authentic announcements, and relive the legendary moments as a member of the 450,000 person crowd. The tour is hosted on a tablet and led by the voices of Nick and Bobbi Ercoline – the couple featured on the cover of the Woodstock album who today are volunteers at Bethel Woods. Earth In Focus: A Celebration of Our Dynamic Planet –– Featuring the work from photographers around the world, Earth in Focus commemorates Earth Day, the environmental movement's 50th anniversary, and strides made in preservation and sustainability. Elliott Landy: Woodstock & Beyond –– Located just beyond the Market Shed buildings, a selection of 12 portraits by iconic festival photographer Elliott Landy are displayed outdoors around the campus, highlighting figures of the classic rock era.
