Wayne County Fair is safe, affordable and a ton of fun BY JOSEPH ABRAHAM & ANTHONY MORGANO

The Horse Pull, sponsored by Marshall Machinery, kicks off the Grandstand Schedule on Friday, August 4 at noon. It’s a wonderful event to watch.
hile enjoying the summer, it’s easy to forget about one of the best parts of the season ... the fairs! The Wayne County Fair, established in 1862, turns 155 this year and continues to draw local crowds as well as people from all over the country. This year the fair takes place from August 4-12, and features both old and new attractions, with plenty of things to do for the whole family. Not only does the fair have a great variety of rides, as well as musical performances by Granger Smith and Jake Worthington, it also remains affordable.
THE RIDES Wade Shows, one of America's premier carnival companies, playing many state fairs across the country, provides the rides for the Wayne County Fair. They own over 100 amusement rides ,ensuring the variety changes year to year. “The Wayne County Fair fits nicely into Wade’s event schedule the week before our fair,” Wayne County Fair Second Vice President Jeffrey Firmstone said. “Wade is at the Delaware State Fair and their next event after our fair is the New York State Fair. Wade and the Wayne County Fair attempt to bring a bit of the state fair carnival experience to Wayne County featuring many spectacular rides and games. Wade has

spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on upgrading the lights on their rides to LED, as anyone can attest that has been to the fair the last few years, the LED lighting on Wade's 90-foot Giant Gondola Wheel is spectacular! Wade Shows is one of the safest carnivals on the road today.” Wade staff includes ride inspectors, and their modern equipment is staffed by trained ride operators. Rides must pass inspection by Commonwealth of Pennsylvania inspectors before the fair opens. All rides also have strict height requirements and posted rules of operation to further ensure patron safety. “Safety is our number one priority, we take extraordinary measures to make sure our guests have the most thrilling rides, the best in customer amenities and above all, that they can enjoy their visit with peace of mind about their safety,” Wade Shows Owner Frank Zaitshik said.
THE FAIR’S A GREAT DEAL! One of the several cool features of the Wayne County Fair is POP or Pay one Price, making it the area's best bargain. For one, $10 per person admission (24 months and up) to the fair, a patron gets parking, admission to the fair and the right to ride all of the rides all day. Also included in the POP is all of the Fair’s small stage entertainment, strolling midway acts featuring a popular Wild About Dinosaurs show as well as perennial crowd favorite Rosaire's Racing Pigs. Many of the fair’s main grandstand shows, including all truck and tractor pulls, Black Cat Hell Drivers show, Huge Fireworks display, and of course four days of exciting Harness Racing, are all a part of the POP. There are also 4-H livestock and arts and crafts exhibits. The Fair features two senior citizens’ days with half price admissions before 5 p.m. on Friday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 9. “Our formal name is the Wayne

County Cooperative Agricultural Society,” Firmstone said. “This organizational structure ensures that the Wayne County Fair will continue to operate as a nonprofit. Our governing board of directors is a group of community minded volunteers that toil practically year round for the sole benefit of the fair and our community. We strive to provide super entertainment and great agricultural educational value at an economical price for all people. All profits from the annual fair are directed back into the fair for capital type improvements to our buildings and grounds, and general maintenance of the fairgrounds.” For more info about the fair, visit www.waynecountyfair.com or their Facebook page.
The midway is filled with great rides for all to enjoy, including the Ferris Wheel, which gives you a great view of the fair from above.

popularity of his created persona. Described as a country music trailblazer, Smith has sold out national tours across the country, has 6.5 million social media followers, 100 million YouTube views and is setting the country music world on fire! This dual threat of great music and gut-busting satire makes Granger Smith unique in the country music scene. Earl Dibbles Jr. started as a way for Smith to promote his music in 2011. In his biography on the Granger Smith website, Smith refers to Earl Dibbles Jr. as “something that completely changed the shape of my
career.” Smith independently released music until he signed his first record deal in 2015. Some of his songs that have brought him success include “If the Boot Fits,” “Backroad Song,” and “The Country Boy Song.” Grimm Construction Inc, and Pioneer Construction Co., Inc are sponsoring the event. The concert will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 8p.m., with tickets available for purchase on the website. Tickets cost $30 for the track and $25 for grandstand seating.

Some of Worthington’s singles include “Just Keep Falling in Love” and “How do you Honky Tonk.” Be sure to hear Worthington at the Wayne County Fair. “I cannot wait to hit the road this summer on the ‘Hell of a Highway’ Summer tour,” Worthington said. “We’ve got some great stops and can’t wait to play some country music for everyone.”

ne of the several unique attractions of this year’s Wayne County Fair, Git-R-Done Lawnmower Racing event sponsored by Seaman’s Marine Inc., takes place on Friday, August 11 at 5 p.m. The event will feature 10-15 tuned up lawnmowers each competing for trophies, prizes and bragging rights. Admission to this grandstand event is free, so get there early before it fills up. These lawnmowers may start out as a John Deere, Turo or Craftsman, but after more than $1000 of tuning, these machines are ready to race. There are many safety regulations and rules. From brakes and clutches, to leather shoes and helmets, there is a whole list of specific racing mods and attire that the racers must follow. The United States Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA), which sets the rules for lawnmower racing, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

igh intensity action and big trucks will be a sight to see this summer at the Wayne County Fair, with the Monster Truck event on Thursday, August 10 at 7 p.m. in the grandstand. JM Motorsport Productions is hosting the event, which features five of the most highly decorated trucks in the industry.
