Large wall mirrors will harmonize your existing home furnishings and attach an exceptional quality to any artistic designs. In selecting the style of your large wall mirror, you have to consider the coordination of your home decors and lights to the one you will choose, if it is classic, transitional or contemporary. The classic style is considered timeless while antique mirrors will add a touch of class and distinction to your home. Large wall mirrors are great for making an illusion of space and creating a daring statement with a complex structure. And beyond the illumination and the feeling of spaciousness in size, the mirrors can also be considered by the freshness of their surfaces and the freshness of their texture, as an excellent decoration, so much so that many times we see small mosaics embedded in a wall socket or trims as to how borders, decorating columns, among other applications. Although mirrors can be helpful, you need to find the focal point so that when you put the mirror, you will be able to make your room look bigger. It also provides reflection of lights which makes your room look brighter. There are lots of things to do to make your room look bigger. You do not need to spend anything in rearranging your room. You can do it by yourself; because it only requires few, easy steps.

Here we have a list of do’s and don’ts for the usage of mirrors in the decor of your home and office: • Do not place mirrors opposite to each other in a room as they conjure up an image of constant movement away from the self, with no grounding influence • Normal mirrors are preferred to magnifying mirrors which may distort the image. • Fixed mirrors are to be used instead of sliding or projected mirrors. • Damaged or broken mirrors should not be used as they reflect and disperse positive energy into different directions. •

Mirror tiles are not recommended

• Another way to place mirrors correctly is to choose a spot where it reflects a good view like mountains or fields, which signify vast lands and vast wealth. • Never ever put a mirror at the end of a long hallway. But could especially be placed at lobbies and halls of offices. If these principles are followed you can use mirrors to effectively retain and also improve the positive flow of energy in your home and office - and not to forget, as an interesting decorative piece as well!S

ACHIEVING AN ITALIAN DININGROOM THEME by Abena Anima Adjei

‘’W

ith Italy’s Mediterranean climate, the concept of eating out of doors is by no means a strange or unique experience. Many Italian houses will have terraces or long patios where meals can be enjoyed alfresco. This dining room theme captures the sense of the countryside and draws it inside where the warm Tuscan colors can be enjoyed all year round.’’(Dulux - World of Colors) The feeling that will be created in this dining room is that of timelessness, and this is decoration at its best and with pristine. Italian design has a lot to do with nature. Bring in natural stones, or rich dark woods on your furniture. The room doesn’t have to be over designed but should have a warm feeling to it. Otherwise it will end up looking like a pizza parlor. Bring in color. More modern design tends to stick with neutral colors & even a black & white color palette. This just isn’t fitting for an Italian dining room. Use rich earth tones like yellows or terra cottas. This will balance the darker wood tones in the room without seeming overwhelming.

Walls and windows Uneven plaster walls are also a typical feature of Italian rooms and this dining room theme is no exception. If your walls are basically unsound and require a complete overhaul then you may wish to consider a bold plaster effect. If your walls are generally quite sound, then you must rely on the dappled finish created by the sponging technique. Display smaller plaster replicas of classic architectural details on the wall instead of pictures. You can also apply earth colors in your dining room. You can be creative and use the Tuscan colors in your wall. You may choose between browns, oranges, yellows, terra cotta and greens. if you wish to make that total Italian look, you can go with spacious windows and wide doors. However, this could be costly if your windows are not designed that way.

Furniture Keep it comfortable. Be prepared to have people relax in your Italian dining room. This may even mean that they linger over their meals. As such, you should make sure that your dining room chair will suit a lot of different body types & it’s not just for show. you may need to throw a cushion or two over the chairs, Be ready for a crowd. An Italian dining room automatically brings up images of large family dinners. Make sure that your dining room table has a leaf in it so everyone can have a place to eat in your fantastic new space.

Flooring and rugs Terracotta or wooden floors are typically Mediterranean. Newly stripped flooring which has been varnished is appealing, likewise is natural terracotta flooring which has its roots firmly in the Tuscan soil. Whatever you choose, make sure the flooring can be easily wiped or swept clean. Pale carpets and rugs can look stunning but stain easily. You may also change your flooring into hardwood. You can resort to engineered hardwood because it is cheaper. You may also check out the laminated wood. It is also cheap and durable. It will also make your dining room look outstanding.

Accessories Mis-match china can look stunning on a dining table, but always collect pieces that have a theme. Use bright colors for example, and include colored glass as well as ceramic. Ceramics with a spotty pattern or floral designs will all look sensational when placed together. Flowers can really be defective in this room. Cut tiny bunches of wild flowers as well as garden flowers for small vases placed down the center of the table. Cut some herbs and place those amongst the flowers to give a wonderful aromatic smell. Organized flower arrangement can look stifling in this informal dining room, so always look for seasonal flowers and just lightly arrange them in a casual manner in a jug or simple container. A small wine rack on the side would be appropriate . Italian is somehow associated with wines and grapes. You can put wine bottles. You may also add a basket of grapes. It does not have to be real grapes or real wine. You can go with plastic grapes. After all, it is just an ornament S

his is an exciting family core area which sets out to create a visually stimulating interior with a sensory experience to provide an all round functionality for both the family and visitors. Each space promising to be unique reflecting taste and a signature that defines this discerning style and absolutely breaking the monotony of colors and texture was achieved even as an open plan. Different furniture colors were used, with a formal feel for the living area, an informal feel for the family area and a semi-formal feel adapted for the dining area. The dining room‌. The first principle in the design was to bring in a center of interest, something that attracted attention the moment someone walked in the room. The obvious choice was a dining room table that was unique and appealing, as well as comfortable and a good fit for a family. But the point of interest was not limited to a table. It could just as easily be the color put on the wall. a deep-red dining room in the midst of a house that is predominantly white. That would attract attention. The next step was to apply the principle of balance. This was the concept of visual equality in shape, form or color. It could be symmetrical or asymmetrical. The simplest choice of symmetrical balance in a dining room was by placing an equal amount of chairs on each side of the table. An asymmetrical choice of balance was achieved by having horizontal shelves stripes at different levels on a section of the wall to attract attention. Using these two main principles and elements of design helped create a dining room that is exceptional in taste and enjoyable for eating. The final concept was to pay attention to details. It was fun to pick the big center of attention in the room, but it was boring to make sure the pillows on the seat cushions exactly match this focal point S

Whites have been used for the ceilings and portions of the walls to communicate a sense of clean, modern, slightly minimalist appeal. Additionally, intricate details have been avoided. A softer, more personal and easier to live with version of a modern interior is found here. Clean lines and hard surfaces are seen here – simple, clean planes of the walls, ceiling, showcase and even simple furniture. By bringing the magnificence of the African theme into the home, we seek to bring a sophisticated and relaxed look that will always be a talking point for visitors. African interior design is unusual enough to add great interest to your room.

T

he term Art Deco actually refers to a style from the 1920’s and 1930’s - which was seen as a very bold and modern look at the time. The style is clean and simple, so it will suit both modern and period

The interior is made to have a simple, classic look. The room does not need to be too cluttered or fussy. Simple, flat walls, in a plain color, are used as basis of the scheme. The “African” theme is found in the use of earth colors or warm neutrals – creams; beiges; coffee; taupe; deep, rich colors like chocolate brown, or reds, etc... These are found in the center table, artifacts showcase, wall in the corridor, curtains, throw pillows, paintings and rug. The plain, hard wood flooring has a somewhat subtle coloured woolen rug as well. Finally, accessories in the space bring the African flavor into it– minimalist painting in the media area, landscape painting in the corridor, showcase with the basket-like weave and the carvings. ontemporary bathroom ideas put the emphasis on a sleek, streamlined look, and a minimalist design and this is just what the client hoped would be achieved. Just like most other modern interiors, this modern styled bathroom employs sharp, clean lines, either squared or rounded edges. The wall-hung basin helps to clear the floor space, giving a clean, minimal look. Cleaning is, therefore, made easier. It is essential to ensure that the wall is strong enough to support the weight. The clean lines are also found in the tiling arrangement, even though a more interesting brick-style pattern would be appropriate to achieve a stunning modern bathroom. It is essential to use similar hues for the entire space for a unified effect. In this space, tones and tints of whites, beige and browns are employedS

Although the stone facing mostly serves to accentuate the neutral hues in the background it is also perfect for our tropical climate. Its use here only goes to attest the fact that stone can be used to achieve elegance in a building. The fence as a feature not only adds class to the building but

room looks clean and crisp when freshly painted and decorated, but it always lacks something. A wall paper should do the trick. The ideas on using pattern, texture and color gives the rooms a look or theme, the pattern gives the room depth and provides movement for the eye.

STYLES FOR ROOMS Even though you’re bound to get tempted, don’t go over the top with wallpapers. “For small rooms, opt for light colored wallpapers like pink, green or blue with small patterns. Go for bold and big, bright motifs and designs in case of large living rooms and drawing rooms. For kid’s room, stick to some cartoon, fairytale or jungle theme. Small patches of wallpaper are also available, which can be used as stickers on one of the walls.” When using something bold and striking like stripes or other geometric designs, use on just one wall to make it look like a theme wall. A metallic finish looks great on large walls and the digitally printed wallpapers are a hit. Use fabric wallpapers for a rich and warm look. “You can use wallpapers almost everywhere. The embossed wall coverings look nice as they give a different texture to the wall Wallpapers in kitchens and bathrooms add vibrancy to those spaces. “Wallpapers can add colour and unique pattern to the walls of kitchen and bathroom.

These areas remain humid and moist all the time, so use wallpapers that are durable and water resistant. Vinyl coated wallpapers work perfect for kitchens and bathrooms as they are moisture resistant as well as stain and grease resistant.

“A metallic finish looks great on large walls and the digitally printed wallpapers are a hit” An important thing to keep in mind is, that the wall should not be damp or moist otherwise the covering will swell up and peel off easily. Repair them before hand if such a problem exists. “Clean them with mild soapy water and a sponge. Then pat dry with a clean, dry towel to get rid of any moisture. Also, vacuum it regularly. Use a broom wrapped with soft cotton or a vacuum cleaner with soft brush for this purpose. I think one of the hardest things when you tackle home decoration yourself is that when you finish you often feel disappointed with the outcome, then you don’t know how to fix it. I see this

SCENECATALOGUE

time and time again, and like I would say, most of the time it is simple to fix, but that’s because I have experience in this field. So the right thing to do, before tearing down the curtains is to seek advice from a professional. You might get 95% right, a few little extra accessories and the job is finished! If you use wallpaper, remember the usual guidelines: •Dark papers will usually make a room look smaller •Vertical stripes will make a room look taller •Horizontal strips will make a room look wider •Small patterned wallpaper can be a good choice in bedroom • Linear prints, small flora’s, small stripes or geometrics all work well. If you want something a little different, use a modern abstract paper, or a traditional French toile paper (generally a single or twotone eighteenth century country scene). •Striped wallpaper gives a touch of elegance to a bedroom.

You can also use wallpaper borders as a way of breaking up the walls, especially if you have high ceilings. These can be used about a third of the way up the wall, as well as at the top. If you have an item of furniture which has seen better days, you could give it a new lease of life by using the wallpaper or paint on it, set in the door panels for example. Color solution is more important than the choice of texture and wallpaper designs. The color of the wallpaper is selected taking into consideration such factors as: the orientation of the room size, functional and designed his own taste. Cool colors are preferred for rooms, oriented to the south S

Of course, you can also use paint effect wallpapers successfully in bedrooms, especially if you want a more traditional bedroom.
