Back 2 bacK The Lady Spartans of Red Bluff defeated Chico 2-1 in 8 innings to win their 2nd consecutive Northern Section Championship. Red Bluff tied the game in the 6th inning on 2 illegal pitches called by the homeplate umpire. Chico was intent on pitching around one of the sections most feared hitters, Emily McEnaney, but the catcher apparently set up too far outside, resulting in the illegal pitches. The play that saved the season was a spectacular diving catch at 2nd base by freshman Haley Harris, who popped up and fired a bullet across the diamond to double up the runner on 3rd. Bottom/middle - Danisha Slay drives in the winning run with a 2 out base hit that scored Megan McColpin from 3rd base.
This was a great play by Haley Harris, but not even close to the one she made to save the game.
