During this incredible 8-day extension following Outback Queensland Adventure visit the tip of Australia at Cape York. Starting in Cairns, you’ll stay overnight on remote cattle stations and learn about life on a working station.

Gaze at a galaxy of stars in the dark, open skies. Cruise along local waterways spotting crocodiles. Learn about Aboriginal history and culture on a Scenic Enrich experience visiting Normanby Station. Visit iconic Australian Pubs, meet the locals, drive the legendary Telegraph Track and enjoy authentic outback food and hospitality.

Day 1

Cairns > Cooktown

Head north along the Captain Cook Highway towards Australia’s last frontier, Cape York Peninsula. Stopping at Daintree Village, join a Daintree River Cruise and spot elusive estuarine crocodiles. Continue by vehicle towards Cape Tribulation, exploring coastal headlands, stopping to enjoy lunch on the way. Switch into a 4WD to travel on the Bloomfield Track (weather permitting) towards Cooktown. Stop at Bloomfield Falls before continuing onto Cooktown, dining at a local restaurant. Your two night stay is at the Mungumby Lodge.

Day 2

After breakfast, meet a local Aboriginal guide who will take you to Normanby Station located in the homelands of the Balngarrawarra people. Join a local Indigenous traditional land owner for an exclusive rock art walk. Enjoy lunch at the much-loved Lions Den Hotel. Depart for James

Horn Island

With your local guide discover the history of Horn Island, part of the Torres Strait Island group at the tip of Cape York. With its population of 650 people there is a focus on pearling and fishing.

Cook Museum and visit the Grassy Hill Lookout for views over the Coral Sea.

Day 3

Cooktown > Merluna Station

Head to Lakefield National Park. Visit Old Laura Homestead and Musgrave Roadhouse. Arrive at Merluna Station in the late afternoon where your hosts, and station owners, will welcome you for an overnight stay. Enjoy a hearty station dinner. By a campfire, gaze up at millions of stars.

Day 4

Merluna Station > Weipa

Join your hosts on a morning tour and behindthe-scenes look at station life. Enjoy lunch at the homestead before heading west through savannah country towards Weipa. Take a sunset cruise and keep watch for salt water crocodiles and a myriad of birdlife. After dinner, stay overnight at the Albatross Bay Resort.

Day 5

Weipa > Bramwell Junction

Take a tour of the mine in Weipa, the largest town in Cape York. Visit Jardine National Park and the Western Cape Cultural Centre featuring arts and crafts from local Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities. Travel to Bramwell Station for your overnight stay where you will enjoy dinner and warm outback hospitality.

Day 6

Bramwell > Bamaga

Journeying north, pass through one of the Cape’s largest cattle stations, Batavia Downs. Stop at Morton Telegraph Station. After a picnic lunch, visit the famous Fruit Bat Falls to enjoy a swim in crystalclear waters. On the Jardine River ferry, arrive at the Cape York Peninsula Lodge, your base for the next two nights.

Day 7 Horn Island

Uncover the fascinating history of Horn Island with a private guide – an important defense during World War II. Enjoy lunch at a local café, admiring the beaches of the Torres Strait. Return to the mainland to enjoy your last dinner on Cape York.

Day 8

Bamaga > Cairns

Head north to the very tip of the country. Journey through rainforest tracks before the ocean is able to be seen on both sides of the vehicle. The last 400 metres is reached on foot as we climb across rocks to arrive at the most northerly tip of mainland Australia. Enjoy lunch before transferring for your onward flight to Cairns (flights not included).
