The Rhine and Danube rivers come alive in spring, as the cool winter months fade, the sun shines high in the sky and the trees blossom into life. At this time of year, tulip season transforms vast expanses of the Dutch countryside into technicolour patchwork quilts. April welcomes the annual Keukenhof Flower Parade, also known as Bloemencorso Bollenstreek, and fewer crowds, compared to summer, make for more relaxing tours.

Along the Danube, ancient fortresses and vineyards dot the landscape, brewing beer and cultivating world-class wines.
