The Black & White Braid
Meet the creators of the THE BLACK & WHITE BRAID
Ben Allmon Carin Garland
On a cold Winter’s morning in 2019, Tamborine Mountain local writer Benjamin Allmon and photographer Carin Garland, left their respective homes on a journey that would see them hike across the Scenic Rim for the next 30 days, walking almost 700km in that time. Across roads and paddocks, streams and mountains, together they learned the stories of the road, who they were named for and who walked them first. They listened to fourth generation farmers at breaking point during the worst drought on record, walked beside indigenous elders and witnessed the devastating bushfires of 2019 and heard the stories of the incredible men and women that fought to save their communities.
Together they produced a two Volume book, filled with stories of locals, history of the Scenic Rim, with images of people and places woven throughout the pages. This hardcover book, The Black and White Braid is available to purchase via benjaminallmon.com and prints available via email caringarlandphotography@gmail.com
