SCENIC CLUB update

Starting from 1 January 2018, we have some exciting new enhancements to our loyalty program

Since launching in the UK in 2009, the Scenic Club family has grown to over 20,000 members and has rewarded members with special benefits whilst travelling with Scenic. However, to continually reward our members and in recognition of Scenic’s ever-evolving product portfolio and the soon-to-be launched Scenic Eclipse – the World’s First Discovery Yacht - we are pleased to announce a range of changes. The new Scenic Club program will come into effect in the New Year and will better reward our guests for their loyalty.

PAGE 8

Current Scenic Club Program

Currently, the international Scenic Club program equally rewards guests for the number of trips or days travelled irrespective of where or how they travelled, so we have designed the new structure to better recognise our UK members and their travel choices. This means from 1 January 2018 each day travelled will be rewarded with a base rate of Scenic Status Points depending on where and how you travelled.

How will the new Scenic Club Loyalty Scheme work? The threshold levels between the Scenic Club tiers remain constant with this new program, members will automatically be enrolled as a Gold member after completing their first journey and will then require 5,000 points to move to Platinum, 10,000 points for Diamond and 25,000 points to become an Emerald member.

What happens to my current days and trips?

Your current days and trips will be converted into Scenic Status points as detailed in the tables above. This will mean that some guests will be promoted to the next tier automatically on 1 January 2018, however guests will not be downgraded or be disadvantaged by the changes, in fact guests will enjoy greater rewards and recognition. For the small proportion of guests who are close to achieving their next status based on ‘trips’ when the new structure is implemented, they will be moved into the next loyalty tier with our compliments. You will shortly receive a letter from us regarding your updated Scenic details, and a helpful Q&A section is available online. Please visit scenic.co.uk/scenicclub

CRUISING THE RHINE

B

WITH ANN WIDDECOMBE Former MP Ann Widdecombe, recently sailed on board Scenic Opal, from Amsterdam to Basel and enjoyed the many wonderful aspects that a river cruise with Scenic possesses. Magical forests, where a sudden appearance of Little Red Riding Hood, a woodcutter or mysterious elf would probably seem unsurprising. The bustle of modern cities, old castles on the skyline and more were packed into a week of gently floating along the Rhine on board Scenic Opal, surely the most luxurious of luxury river ships. I boarded the vessel in Amsterdam. It was an all-inclusive package whereby drinks, excursions, personal laundry and room service were included in the price. Browsing the suite, complete with balcony, I came upon a list of services provided by the butler, Ratko. Eat your heart out, Bertie Wooster.

The Opal offered excellent dining experiences on board. The main dining room, a smaller one devoted to fine-dining, and a gourmet table. On my first night, I was tired from the journey so I opted instead for room service. The next day the choice was between visiting Volendam and Edam or a city tour of Amsterdam. I chose the first. Edam is a small dormitory town full of gables and churches, while Volendam was a huge contrast, with narrow, cobbled streets where cycles and cars weaved in and out among pedestrians. Between the two towns we stopped to watch cheese being made. By lunch we were back on board and on our way to Cologne, where we toured our first schloss, Drachenburg Castle. Then we moved on to Cochem for a tour of the magnificent Reichsburg Castle which has a long history beginning with 11th century monks and ending with the Nazis and post war apprentice training.

PAGE 12

A Reichsburg Castle, Scenic Opal B Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum C Scenic Opal

I’d never had one, so I was tempted. After all I am approaching 70 and a bit less supple than I was a few years ago. So, I treated myself. By now it was Saturday and we were arriving in Rüdesheim. I went up to the reception desk to ask for details of church services next day. The resourceful chap at the desk embarked on a long hunt in a city full of churches. Rüdesheim offered the best shopping and I came back with some wonderful Christmas decorations, but the biggest tourist attraction was Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum. The ship laid on a barbecue lunch as the sun blazed down, but the staff brought drinks unfazed.

"Sheer floating luxury, visiting four different countries and no extra charges. "

On day four, we passed through the Rhine Gorge, with its breath-taking scenery and the famous Lorelei Rock. A detailed commentary was provided but I was content merely to stand and stare. One of the advantages of river cruising is that you get off the ship every day rather than enduring days at sea, but there was plenty to do on board with talks, evening entertainment and a fitness centre. I had credit to spend and the beauty therapist was keen to give me a massage.

What happened next showed Scenic at their best. Long queues at locks suggested that we might be too late arriving at Basel for some of the flights home. We were to put into another city instead, but passengers scarcely noticed the changes as everything was organised with precision. Arriving at the Gare du Nord station in the centre of Paris just 30 minutes before my train was due to depart, I flew through check-in which included UK immigration, and was welcomed on board with a complimentary magazine. I was pleased to find that the spacious carriage had reclining seats, power sockets and complimentary Wi-Fi which meant I was able to stay busy for the whole 2 hour journey. As well as the amenities, I was treated to a delicious light lunch which included a glass of wine. I really liked that the spacious carriage allowed for me to stretch my legs without disturbing the other passengers, which isn’t something I’ve been able to do on an aircraft before. In less than three hours, I’d arrived at London’s impressive St Pancras Station and was delighted at not having to join a long queue for passport control or have a tedious wait for my luggage. I was out of the station within five minutes and heading home.

OLIEBOLLEN An integral part of celebrating the New Year in Amsterdam, usually with a glass of champagne, this deep fried Dutch pastry is similar to a doughnut and is a staple in Holland.

Ingredients

Method

• 2 (7g) sachets dried active baking yeast

1. Warm oven on lowest possible temperature setting.

• 125ml lukewarm water (45 degrees C) • 550g plain flour • 4 tablespoons caster sugar • 1 teaspoon salt • 2 eggs, beaten • 350ml milk • 200g chopped apple • 150g sultanas (optional) • 1 litre vegetable oil for frying • caster sugar for decoration

2. Dissolve the yeast in the warm water in a small mixing bowl. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar and salt. Add the eggs, yeast mixture and milk; beat with an electric mixer until blended. 3. Turn off the oven. Cover the prepared dough with a greased piece of cling film, and place the bowl of dough on the lowest rack of the warmed oven. Allow to rest and rise for 1 hour. 4. Heat the oil for frying to 175 degrees C in a heavy bottomed, deep frying pan. 5. Mix the apples and sultanas into the dough. Then, carefully slide the dough by heaping teaspoons into the preheated oil. Do not crowd the pan. Fry the fritters until they are golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. They should turn over on their own when they are ready to brown on the other side, but keep an eye on them and flip them as necessary. Remove them to a kitchen paper lined plate and repeat with the remaining dough. Dust with sugar while warm.

CITY GUIDE

Much like the city itself, the foodie scene is considered a cultural melting pot, with something to suit all taste preferences. From Asian and Tapas, to classic Dutch and raw herring on-the-go, you won’t be short of choice. But if you’re looking to try some traditional dishes, a firm favourite is Rookwurst, a smoked sausage often served with a combination of mashed potatoes and vegetables named ‘stamppot’. Those with a sweet tooth are sure to enjoy Stroopwafels, made from two thin waffles with a sticky syrup filling, best served fresh at street markets.

Amsterdam

see There’s so much to see and do in this vibrant capital. Be sure not to miss the Rijksmuseum, the Dutch national museum dedicated to art and history, as well as the Van Gogh Museum, highlighting his extraordinary work and that of his contemporaries. History buffs will relish a visit to the exact location where the world’s most famous diary was written, on a visit to Anne Frank’s House, and those who love all things floral must make time to visit the World Heritage-listed Keukenhof Gardens to marvel at the acres of multicoloured tulips.

play Take to the city’s iconic waterways as part of a canal cruise through the heart of the city, passing patchwork homes, adorned in a multitude of colours. And, adopt the locals’ number one mode of transport and hop on a bike for a guided tour, not forgetting to take some time out in the picturesque Vondelpark for a nice picnic.

explore Discover quintessential Holland on a trip to The Zaanse Schans, offering a true insight into 18th and 19th-century life. Be sure to also peruse the Bloemenmarkt, the only floating flower market in the world, where 15 florists line up their stalls on floating barges along the canal side. For a change of pace, Oude Kerk, the oldest building in Amsterdam and final resting place of many an esteemed artist and composer, is an historic monument, sure to impress after years of restoration. Scenic Eclipse

SCENIC ECLIPSE THE WORLD'S FIRST DISCOVERY YACHT The countdown is on until Scenic Eclipse makes her world debut sailing from Athens to Venice on 31 August 2018.

A

After much excitement surrounding Scenic Eclipse's inaugural sailing from Athens to Venice, every place on this wonderful cruise has sold out. We're grateful for your support and can't wait to see where the future takes us, as we continue to explore beyond the horizon. Scenic Founder, Glen Moroney says interest in the ship’s inaugural season has been high: “The level of excitement and anticipation we are getting from our booked guests tells us we have hit the nail right on the head. The market for true luxury in both small ships and expedition itineraries is heating up and we are proud to be able to put forth a ship we believe will exceed expectations.” Scenic Eclipse is currently under construction at Uljanik Shipyard JSC in Pula, Croatia. Progress since the keel-laying ceremony on 28 April 2017 has continued on schedule, with the ship’s bow thrusters, which provide more maneuverability when docking, installed in August. With several Antarctic and Arctic itineraries planned for her inaugural season, Scenic Eclipse is being built to comply with new International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Polar Code requirements, as well as to the highest international safety standards.

Utilising state-of-the-art technology and a host of safety features, including innovative zero-speed stabiliser fins that are 50 per cent larger for even greater stability, the ship will have a rating of Ice Class 1A (Polar Class 6), the highest of any luxury vessel, which will ensure the safest navigation through Arctic and Antarctic waters. The ship will also feature special “Safe Return to Port” capabilities, guaranteeing essential systems remain operational in the unlikely case of an incident – the only ship operating in the Polar Regions to include this technology. The 6-star ship, which will carry a maximum of just 228 guests, only 200 in Antarctica and the Arctic, will offer a level of luxury, discovery, safety and world-class innovation never before incorporated into a ship of this size. Each of the 114 spacious and beautifully designed suites feature a private verandah and lounge area. Akin to the finest hotels in the world, the suites will range in size from the generous 32m² Verandah Suites to the 247m² two-bedroom Penthouse Suite. Separate sleep zones and lounge areas in every suite will provide ample space for relaxation in your home away from home.

PAGE 18

The ship will feature 10 dining options from casual all-day grazing in Azure Bar & Café to contemporary French fine-dining in Lumière, so you can dine when and where the mood strikes. Small and intimate venues abound on Scenic Eclipse affording you the option of privacy at no additional cost. There are eight spacious bars and lounges for you to enjoy, with unlimited complimentary beverages part of Scenic's all-inclusive promise. As well as cruises to the far-flung reaches of Antarctica and the High Arctic, Scenic Eclipse will offer a series of Europe and Mediterranean sojourns, as well as cruises to the Caribbean and South America. Also on offer will be a series of Rediscovery voyages ranging in length from eight to 17 days, including two different Transatlantic journeys. Scenic Eclipse’s intimate size and engineering capabilities allows for navigating and docking in unique locations and smaller ports; its GPS dynamic position technology will allow it to ‘anchor’ in areas where the use of a real anchor would be off-limits, and its on board seven-seat helicopter‡ and submarine‡ will take you to the furthest reaches of remote regions.

Itineraries for the inaugural season of cruises run from the bright beauty of Italy and Croatia, to the crystalline waters of Cuba; from remote Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands, to the fjords of Norway, Chile and Svalbard in the Arctic Circle, and from the romantic Greek Islands to the Viking trail that traverses across Scotland, Iceland and Greenland to Atlantic Canada.

We have made many new friends, travelling with Scenic to the world’s ends.

THE WORLD'S GREATEST LIVING EXPLORER

SIR RANULPH FIENNES

CELEBRATES THE WORLD'S FIRST DISCOVERY YACHT

In September, we held an exclusive Eclipse event at the Royal Geographical Society in London. As well as afternoon tea, guests were treated to an incredible talk from Sir Ranulph Fiennes who shared tales and unique insights into his expeditions to the ends of the earth, including many destinations visited by Scenic Eclipse. As one of the greatest living explorers, Sir Ranulph Fiennes is more qualified than most to share experiences about the unique landscapes of the Arctic and Antarctic. As the first man to circumnavigate the world along its polar axis, Fiennes has spent numerous months in these inhospitable environments, mainly as part of the Transglobe Expedition.

Once they crossed Antarctica, Sir Ranulph and his team headed north towards Alaska where they set off to the east, along the Northwest Passage with the aim of crossing the Arctic Ocean. Sir Ranulph spoke of the unique challenges that the Arctic Circle presents, with no land underneath, the ice is constantly moving and makes navigation difficult and treacherous at the same time.

Fiennes' Transglobe Expedition set out from Greenwich in September 1979 travelling through France, Spain and Western Africa before setting sail for Antarctica in December. Sir Ranulph Fiennes shared stories of how his team lived in cramped conditions in Antarctica, in the Triwall huts which his late wife, Ginny, designed. Made out of prefabricated cardboard, the four huts served as living quarters, a generator hut, a radio hut, and a VLF hut.

Another challenge that the team encountered were the locals, native to the Arctic region polar bears usually hunt seals, but on a couple of occasions Sir Ranulph was awoken by a polar bear trying to get into the tent.

This is in stark contrast to Scenic Eclipse, with suites ranging from 32m2 to 247m2, 10 dining experiences and a 550m2 Spa Sanctuary on board, guests will have all the amenities that they need and will experience Antarctica in complete 6-star luxury. Sir Ranulph also spoke about the Antarctic landscape that Scenic Eclipse guests will witness. From the glaciers and ice-shelves, to the mountains which were used to help the team navigate and crevasse that they tried to avoid, Sir Ranulph spoke about a landscape like no other on earth.

them warm and dry whilst venturing to and from expeditions on the Zodiacs. Scenic Eclipse will showcase the very best that the Arctic and Antarctica has to offer during its inaugural season.

SIR RANULPH FIENNES BIOGRAPHY • Born in the UK in 1944, brought up in South Africa, attended Eton College • Joined SAS 1965/1966. Youngest Captain in the British Army • Led the first hovercraft expedition up the longest river in the world (the Nile) • Led the team that discovered the lost city of Ubar on the Yemeni border • First to cross Antarctic and Arctic Ocean • First to circumnavigate the world along its polar axis • First to complete an unsupported crossing of the Antarctic Continent • Successfully summited Everest. The oldest Briton ever to summit • Raised over $23 million for charity

Scenic Eclipse will have a dedicated Discovery Team on board who will use their expertise to bring guests closer to the action, so you may be lucky enough to spot a polar bear from the safety of a Zodiac or kayaks. As well as talking about his experiences, Sir Ranulph Fiennes shared some advice with guests. Top of his list for anyone venturing to the Polar Regions was good camera equipment to capture the unique scenery and wildlife. Another tip was the clothing that guests should wear, Sir Ranulph suggested layers were key to surviving the polar conditions and a good pair of sunglasses. Scenic Eclipse guests who sail on a polar cruise don’t need to worry about packing a big coat though, as all guests will be given a complimentary jacket and hat that will keep

AGATHA CHRISTIE’S

EGYPT

Retrace the famous author’s footsteps When Agatha Christie first visited Egypt as a teenager, she had little interest in one of the world’s greatest ancient civilisations. It was another 20 years before she would be swept away by its magic, after meeting her second husband, archaeologist Max Mallowan.

B

It’s not hard to see why Egypt captured Agatha Christie’s heart and inspired her to write one of the bestselling mysteries of all time. From the temple-strewn banks of the Nile to the mindblowing Pyramids of Giza, in Egypt, there’s always a story.

As she glided down the mighty Nile aboard a paddle steamer, Egypt captured her imagination. She wrote her famous murder mystery novel, Death on the Nile, while staying at a 19th century Victorian palace in Luxor, overlooking the river. What was once a retreat for the Egyptian royal family, is now known as the 5-star Sofitel Winter Palace. Christie also stayed at the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan, now the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan, where guests are invited to dine on The Terrace as she did and drink tea with a pen in hand, imagining they’re plotting a novel. HOW TO PACK FOR EGYPT & JORDAN Cities, rivers and deserts, here’s what you need to pack for an Egypt & Jordan adventure.

CAMERA

CLOTHING

During a trip to Egypt & Jordan you will encounter a lot of beautiful photo opportunities. We recommend taking a good camera with a wide angle lens, to capture every detail. Don’t forget to pack spare batteries and memory cards so you can snap to your heart’s content.

We advise observing the dress code where applicable. Women, loose linen/cotton trousers or a below the knee skirt and sleeved blouse is considered appropriate. For men, loose trousers and t-shirts are preferred in most parts, over shorts and tank tops. In the evening, a long-sleeved shirt or cardigan will suffice for when the temperature dips. And, of course, comfortable footwear is a must.

TRAVEL ADAPTORS

Try and pack all of your normal toiletries, as you might not be able to find such items whilst travelling and for those susceptible to insect bites, pack a repellent. Hand and face wipes come in handy on tours when you don’t have access to running water.

With temperatures reaching the early 30s in the summer months, protection from the sun is vital. We suggest packing a high factor lotion, sunglasses with UV protection and a hat or cap to avoid the sun when it’s at its strongest.

As with most travel outside of the UK, a travel adaptor is an essential item to pack. Egypt uses the same plug as the majority of European countries, whereas Jordan uses a mixture of European and British plugs.

BREATHE IN the magic of Christmas

B

As the nights draw in and temperatures dip, the spirit of Christmas is palpable. This is the festive season with Scenic, but not as you know it.

Spend Christmas in 5-star truly all-inclusive luxury as you choose from one of our spectacular winter itineraries, boasting an unrivalled selection of exclusive, once-in-alifetime experiences and flexible excursions. Venture to the motherland of the Christmas markets we’ve come to know and love on our Rhine and Danube Christmas market itineraries, as the frosty air calls for oversized scarves and cups of mulled wine in the twinkle of low-hanging fairy lights. PAGE 34

Or, spread your festive cheer to the world’s southernmost continent, with icebergflanked passageways and ice-covered Antarctic land replacing tinsel and trees for decoration. You'll become one of the first guests to board our 6-star Discovery Yacht, Scenic Eclipse, and experience the next generation of luxury ocean cruising, as part of our Ultimate Antarctica itinerary. Those who want to escape the cold can embrace the golden glow of the Southeast

Asian sun as it provides some high temperature respite for those looking to spend the Christmas period adopting ancient Burmese traditions in some of Myanmar’s most wonderful destinations. Danube Christmas Market The medieval architecture that Nuremberg possesses automatically leaves a wonderfully festive impression on its visitors, but there’s nothing quite like a gingerbreadmaking class to set the scene for a truly authentic introduction to Christmas in Europe. Regensburg’s markets have been recognised as the ‘loveliest’ in any Germanspeaking country and are the first on your itinerary. The stalls around the fairy-tale Thurn and Taxis Palace offer traditional Bavarian delicacies and themed evenings of entertainment to really envelope you in seasonal cheer, before a day trip to World Heritage-listed Český Krumlov or home of Mozart, Salzburg breaks up your Christmas cavorting. In Melk, a guided tour of the magnificent 18th-century Benedictine Abbey or a bike ride along the Danube to Dürnstein precedes a truly magical afternoon at the Christmas markets as you soak up the joyful atmosphere. From the middle of November to Christmas, Vienna’s most beautiful squares are transformed into a magical treat for the senses, as the smell of Christmas baking and fruity glühwein fill the air. Architecture and art enthusiasts will relish the opportunity to visit the Belvedere Museum. A stunning Baroque landmark, home to he greatest collection of Austrian art, dating from the Middle Ages

to the present day, including pieces from international artists such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Max Beckmann. Not to mention the world’s largest collection from Austrian painter, Gustav Klimt. And, while you’re there, you’ll be invited to attend a Scenic Enrich evening concert at the Palais Liechtenstein, showcasing the work of Mozart and Strauss, complete with a complimentary glass of Austrian Sekt. Rhine Christmas Market Quirky Amsterdam is the perfect introduction to your Christmas markets itinerary through the splendour of Europe. A canal boat cruise through the heart of this magnificent city, introduces multicoloured facades, cobblestone streets frequented by cyclists, and cafés spilling out onto the pavement. A trip to the towns of Volendam and Edam will give you an insight into how other communities prepare for the festive period. In Cologne,

the 2,000-year-old city is given a festive makeover as millions flock from around the world to purchase gifts and keepsakes from quaintly designed ‘Buden’. Opening on the last Monday before advent, the excitement awoken by the smell of hot chestnuts and fresh gingerbread, is palpable. One of Germany’s oldest cities, Koblenz, is turned into a Christmas paradise where over 130 wooden stalls are erected to sell an extensive range of handmade decorations and presents. Classical, jazz and gospel concerts, not forgetting nostalgic carriage rides through the Old Quarter, inject some romance in-between perusals and Lebkuchenherzen tastings. Rudesheim’s chocolate box-like Old Quarter is the perfect setting for spreading the festive cheer, as marquees along Drosselgasse lane serve a host of local and global foods, from Finland to the Far East. A must-try is the Rudesheim Coffee, exclusively made with locally distilled Asbach Uralt Brandy, whipped cream and traditionally served in

an authentic coffee set. Both something delicious to say you’ve tried, while also being a great Christmas gift idea to take back for a coffeelover at home. Take a cable car ride up to the Niederwald recreational area by cable car, for beautiful views of the Rhine and the accompanying vineyards, and don’t forget to take a look at the life-size nativity scene on the market square. Cross the border for the day into Strasbourg and make your way to the city’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed Grand Ile quarter. Explore the many arts and crafts stalls with their traditional Alsatian decorations, and to try some culinary specialties as you get to know one of the oldest markets. Playing host to a range of choir concerts, talks and performances, the city’s welcoming atmosphere, with its twinkling lights, Christmas tree and illuminated streets makes for the perfect Alsace Christmas experience.

FROM LISBON

Picturesque cobbled streets, towering fortifications and irresistible cuisine, the Portuguese capital will capture your head and heart. Surrounded by the Tagus river on the east, Lisbon is situated just inland from the Atlantic coast and has been the Portuguese capital since 1256, when Afonso III recognised the city’s excellent port and its strategic central position. Arguably the city that shaped the modern world, Scenic guests can explore this charming coastal city as part of our 11-day Unforgettable Douro itinerary with three-night Lisbon extension. A guided city tour unveils a treasure trove of experiences, as the quaint Alfama district with its steep, narrow, cobblestoned streets offers a glimpse into traditional Lisbon. The 11th century São Jorge Castle is an architectural delight that provides mesmerising views over the city. For an especially unique experience, traverse the castle’s wall to its accompanying gardens

where you will discover a converted TukTuk that sells a delicious selection of wine to supplement arguably the best view over the pastel-coloured buildings. You mustn’t miss the delightful Belem district to the west of the city, the location for many of the capital’s most iconic tourist attractions, including the Padrao dos Descobrimentos monument, Torre de Belem and the extravagant Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. Scenic Freechoice invites you to venture a little further out to enjoy a tour of the

picturesque former fishing village, Cascais. Alternatively, those looking for a more active experience can climb to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed hilltop town of Sintra and visit the royal palace, which was constructed in the early 15th century. Lisbon offers some of the best cuisine in Europe. The three-floored Cervejaria Ramiro is an exquisite example of authentic Portuguese dining and affirms its stance as Lisbon’s premier seafood restaurant. The Dance of the Apsara had near disappeared during the reign of the Khmer Rouge between 1975-1979. The tradition thankfully remains as a few surviving dancers of the Cambodian atrocities managed to pass on their knowledge to the next generations. Kravan Temple is comprised of five reddish brick towers housing interior brick carvings dedicated to Vishnu, the Supreme God of Hinduism. In the largest central tower, an eight-armed Vishnu appears on the back wall, taking the three gigantic steps with which he reclaimed the world. Surrounded by a moat, the monument has a small causeway in the western section of the temple grounds. The entrance gate is thought to have been east of the towers where there is

a large cruciform terrace. It is assumed that the gate was built out of wood or some other perishable material, as nothing of it remains today.

Reuben's

Retreat

Scenic proudly support Reuben’s Retreat, a local charity dedicated to providing care to children and families living with life-limiting or life-threatening illness. Founded by Nicky and Mike Graham, following the tragic loss of their son Reuben to a rare form of tumour, this sanctuary where families facing uncertain futures can ‘relax, recharge and rebuild’ was created in his name. Working holistically, the retreat offers an outstanding selection of support and services catering for the individual specifically, to ensure the care they receive is relevant to their needs. From personcentred counselling, well-being treatments and therapies, to activity days, short breaks and support groups, their work nationwide means access to care is always available. In April 2017, the charity celebrated their fifth anniversary and they continue to progress with their plans, thanks to generous donations. But, with every passing phase brings the need for volunteers. This year, we’ve have taken part in the Salford 10k and a charity football match, and are looking forward to the Manchester 10k in May 2018, along with many more exciting fundraisers in the pipeline. A word from Nicky: "Having worked in the travel industry my entire adult career, I have been fortunate to enjoy many fantastic trips both here and overseas. Our sons were also lucky to travel a lot from being babies. Some families don't have the luxury to make beautiful memories and have holidays with their children, and so, Reuben's Retreat was founded. A lasting legacy in memory of our darling Reuben who loved a holiday and fun time with his mummy, daddy and big brother. We feel super proud to have Scenic join us on #reubensjourney and we love how inventive they have been with their love and support. It is truly special." If you’d like to start fundraising or to make a donation, you can do so via their Virgin Money Giving page, a quick and easy way for your friends, families and supporters to donate in just a few clicks. SCENIC SPOTLIGHT

Eleni Kettles is CRM Manager at Scenic HQ. Find out what it is exactly that she enjoys so much about her role and how she ensures our 5-star philosophy is communicated to our guests on a daily basis. After many years in retail CRM (Customer Relationship Management), I saw Scenic as a fantastic opportunity to progress my career with a company continuing to grow within its sector. Working for a 5-star luxury travel brand doesn’t feel like work. I really enjoy helping people to achieve their travel aspirations by creating engaging content on a daily basis. My day-to-day tasks require me to produce relevant and timely communications to support the luxurious experience every one of our guests can expect while travelling with us. I am required to encourage regular interaction from potential guests and enquirers during key campaigns, through creative email techniques. To ensure our guests feel truly considered, we select who receives which online and offline communications, this ensures they only receive what they want to, while also assuring any requested brochures are sent out promptly.

It is then my job to analyse interactions and data throughout the customer life cycle, in the hope of improving customer retention. I’m really excited about the launch of our new loyalty program for 2018, which seeks to reward returning guests with excellent benefits, exclusive offers and Scenic news. We constantly have exciting new developments that we can’t wait to let you in on, for example, the inaugural sailing of Scenic Eclipse. I’m yet to experience a Scenic Space-Ship myself but, from hearing the stories from my colleagues, it sounds like an experience I won’t forget. Spending my days reading about beautiful countries, working with amazing imagery and seeing just what we can do for the discerning traveller, continues to inspire me.
