2021-2022 ANNUAL REPORT

Collaborating with other entities, Georgetown County First Steps helps families prepare their children for school and school success by maximizing public and private community resources to deliver, enhance, and expand highquality early childhood services.

-51% of children in Georgetown county are directly served by a First Steps high intensity program

-52% of the children in Georgetown County are ready for Kindergarten.

Because school readiness is the result of a child’s development in many areas, with each developmental area contributing to the child’s success, services must be individualized and adaptable to meet the unique needs of children and families.

FIRST STEPS IS HERE

Last year, because of Georgetown County First Steps: 74% more likely to score at the highest level on the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment 34% less likely to be chronically absent in kindergarten PROVEN RESULTS A 2019 study found that children who received First Steps local partnership services were: $1 = $1.80 Georgetown County First Steps leveraged $159,870 from sources outside of state government, providing a match of $0.80 for every state dollar invested 24 educators participated in First Steps training and professional development, benefitting 500+ children 115 parents & caregivers received services and support to be their child’s first and most important teacher 165 children directly served in Georgetown County

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Georgetown County First Steps (GCFS) mission statement is to collaborate with other entities while helping families and caregivers prepare their children for school success by maximizing public and private community resources to deliver, enhance and expand high-quality early childhood services. It is our job to support the learning efforts and development of every child, with an understanding that each child is unique with different strengths and weaknesses. GCFS continues to provide comprehensive services while addressing the child’s holistic needs, the intentional needs of the community, and the entire family unit when it comes to empowering and educating. Our plan is to increase comprehensive services throughout the county while partnering with other community agencies. Any “change” first starts at home.

Addressing the needs of young children is a shared endeavor. In addition to providing services to families and support for child care providers, Georgetown County First Steps mobilizes partners and community members to ensure all children in Georgetown County begin school ready to succeed.
