Take a ride on the ‘Tin Goose’ July 1-5 PORT CLINTON — The Experimental Aircraft Association is bringing its restored 1929 Ford Tri-Motor airplane back to Port Clinton on July 1-5 during a fivestate mini tour. A classic aircraft from the early days of commercial air travel, Ford Tri-Motors were a common site in the skies above the Lake Erie islands region for many years. The Port Clinton tour stop gives aviation enthusiasts the opportunity to see and ride in the world’s first mass-produced airliner. The
event will be hosted by EAA “Tin Goose” Chapter 1247 at the ErieOttawa Regional Airport in Port Clinton. “This airplane allows people to experience true living history of aviation, as well as learn more about EAA and our mission to help people fully participate in the world of flight,” said Adam Smith, director of the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, Wis. The Ford Tri-Motor, nicknamed the “Tin Goose,” was built by the Ford Motor Company in the late
1920s. EAA’s airplane underwent a 12-year restoration beginning in the 1970s and since the mid1980s, has been based at the EAA museum in Wisconsin. Flights during the Port Clinton tour stop will be available for $50 to EAA members and $60 for non-members. A secure flightreservation system and complete information are available through then. Tri-Motor tour Web site at www.flytheford.org or by calling the toll free reservation line 1-800-843-3612.

Club offers perks of boating without the hassles BY TIA WOODEL Where “the boat is always waiting,” Freedom Boat Club revolves around its members’ needs. By only paying a monthly fee and the cost of fuel, Freedom Boat Club allows its members to take any of its boats out whenever they want. According to James Davis, manager of Sales and Marketing for the Catawba and Sandusky offices, without having to worry about the extra fees and maintenance that go into owning a boat, members get the chance to enjoy only the better pleasures of boating. “It’s a good way to get people who haven’t boated into boating,” Davis says. The Freedom Boat Club has been located in Catawba for more than a year and has just added a new location in Sandusky. With 60 locations throughout the U.S., Freedom Boat Club’s membership has been growing.
Becoming a member of the club has many perks. Not only do members have unlimited use at the main location they sign up with, but they also get four uses per location at all other locations per year. This allows for members to do some boating or fishing when traveling or vacationing. As long as a member is present, anyone else is allowed to go out on the boat. The service also has its members go through a free training and safety and orientation class before starting their membership, so anyone is welcome to join. “Freedom Boat Club has a partnership with TowBoat US. If for any reason you have problems on the lake, TowBoat US is just a call away,” according to the club’s Fact Sheet. With all of the safety measures Freedom Boat Club offers, it’s hard not to feel safe out on the water, according to Davis.
With captains just added this year as well, Road, members can go out on the water without Port Clinton and the Sandusky branch is worrying about driving the boat. located at Lyman Harbor, 1615 First Street, “It’s a membership club. You join the Sandusky. club and we take care of all the hassles,” For information on the club, call Davis at Davis explains.
