BAKING WITH OWEN’S TREATS

Teen baker Owen Dodson has partnered with us for more than two (2) years to share videos of his baking creations on our YouTube channel for his series Owen’s Treats. Owen gained interest in baking when his brother took cooking classes at a nearby college and brought home desserts for his family. Read below to learn more about Owen’s baking journey!

What inspired you to create Owen’s Treats?

I connected with the Library to create baking videos, and was excited to start on this new journey. When I was younger, I always thought of having my own YouTube channel someday but never got around to it. Now, I’m here making my own videos!

Where do you hope to take your baking in the future?

I never thought about making a career out of my baking talent, but now that I have started this train, I don’t think I want to stop anytime soon! I wish to continue making more baking videos to entertain my mom’s friends as well as encourage and inspire young bakers to try their hand at the craft. I hope this baking channel inspires more people just like me!

What is your favorite dish to create?

I have quite the sweet tooth, so instantly I think desserts. I love breakfast foods, including muffins, filled pancakes, sweet crepes and donuts! By far the best thing I like to make are cinnamon rolls because they were one of the first advanced desserts I made well.

What is one tip you would share with a new baker?

Start with an easy recipe that you’re interested in baking! Never push yourself into making the hardest thing ever because you saw a trend on TikTok! Don’t feel discouraged if it doesn’t turn out, either. When in doubt, try and try again! I failed countless recipes, but I still encouraged myself to make it again and learned from my mistakes.
