NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY WITH SCHEID STUDIOS
welcome WHY CUSTOM PHOTOGRAPHY? Your child is a priceless gift. Capturing the first few days of your baby’s life with a photographer you connect with is as special as your wedding day. The love you have for your child is the celebration of love between two people. Those moments captured as photographs will be your memories forever…family heirlooms you will share with your child and their children for many years to come. Don’t let those moments pass you by. I am your storyteller. I’m here to capture the story of your newborn baby and portray that through my vision. The first few days when he is sleepy, squishy and curling up as if still in the womb. The first smile, the flaky skin, and the swish of curl upon her head. These are your memories that have only just begun. My goal as your Photographer, is not only to pose the baby into the curly, squishy poses everyone loves, but to also capture natural imagery portraits of your newborn. This is a time to reflect on the true, untouched, unposed expression of the baby as themselves. Little things that help shape and mold them in to whom they will become as a person are special and unique to each baby.
Amanda Scheid lives, works, and plays in St. Paul, Minnesota with her husband and two daughters. She specializes in portraiture photography with a fine art sensiblitiy. Amanda is proud to serve the Twin Cities area.
what to expect This is just a little information on what to expect during your photography session for your newborn. Most newborns are easiest to pose and photograph in the first 12 days, so once you are home from the hospital, please immediately contact me via e-mail (amanda@scheidstudios) or call me (651-998-9675) so we can schedule a firm date for your photo shoot. During the photo shoot I will be keeping the “studio” area very warm…about 80 degrees or so. Additionally I will have a space heater and warming pad for the baby. The heat is what makes the baby nice and sleepy, which makes the posing much easier. Remember the baby just came from a warm womb a couple of days earlier where it was 90+! You may want to dress in layers so you are comfortable as well. The photo shoot itself will last on average three hours. This might seem like a long time, but most of it will be calming and quieting the baby between poses. Patience, patience and more patience is the key to a good photo shoot! For the most part, the baby will be shot naked. Please know that babies pee and poo on everything and you don’t need to worry. I have plenty of wipes and pads on hand and everything is washed after each session. There will be a white noise machine running to help soothe the baby. Feel free to sit back, relax, read a book, or even take this opportunity to take a nap yourself !
WHAT THE PARENTS CAN DO TO PREPARE…
The parents should come in black t-shirts/tops to keep a clean and classic look for the family shots. I will always start with the family poses first and then work our way to the solo posed shots of the baby. The baby should be fed right before the scheduled photoshoot, so (s)he will have a nice full belly as that will ensure a nice sleepy baby. If you are coming from a location that is more than 45 minutes away, I may ask that you feed the baby immediately upon arrival. If the baby is being formula fed, please bring additional bottles for feeding during the session. We will make as many nursing/feeding stops as we need to during the session to keep the baby happy. Also, make sure to bring any pacifier or soothers if the baby uses them. Please keep the baby awake for about half hour before the session, so he or she will be nicely sleepy for the session. Please do not dress the baby in any constricting or hard to take off clothes. Avoid dressing them in any clothes that will leave elastic/pressure marks on their skin. As there is limited space in the studio, I try to limit the number of attendees to only the family members whose photos will be taken during the photo session. No outside cameras, videos, or cell phone cameras are allowed during the session.
FAQ’S Q: Can grandma or other extended family members attend the session? A: No. I try to restrict only the immediate family members to the photo session and then only to the ones that will be photographed with the baby. Siblings are allowed at the beginning of the session, but I do strongly recommend that the parents drive separately so once their photos are taken, they can leave. Remember, this is a newborn session so the focus of the studio will be primarily on capturing your little one, as such the space will be setup with that expectation. If you want to have a more family style session, I would encourage you to book a portrait session which the focus would be on the family versus your newborn. Q: When can we see the images? A: Proofs will be available for in-studio viewing about two to three weeks after the newborn session. I will call you to schedule your ordering session. All orders are due at this time. When you come for your ordering session, please bring with you all decision makers, as your appointment is designed for you to place your order. It’s best to leave little ones with a sitter. Q: Do you offer a maternity session? A: Yes, a maternity session can only booked as an add-on to a booked newborn session for $150. It is best to schedule a maternity session around the 7th month of pregnancy. The maternity session will include a visit from a personal stylist and hair and makeup prior to the session. Q: Do you offer a baby plan? A: Yes! The First Year Baby Plan is available for our youngest clients. It includes a maternity session for mom, a newborn session, a six month session, and a one year session. The First Year Baby Plan is $750, and includes four 5x7 prints in a storyboard frame. Q: Do you have a referral program? A: Yes, for each person who books a session, whether for a newborn, portrait or high school senior session, that you referred, you will receive $25 in print credit.
