Welcome, Hello! I’m Bernardo Scheinkman, CEO of Smart Cities Americas. I would like to thank each and every one of you for having joined this event. I am pleased to say the second annual edition of Smart City Expo Miami was a complete success. With climate change demanding attention, the Mayor of Miami had called for awareness, asking smart disruptors to help — this event spearheaded that change. So, we produced Smart City Expo Miami 2021 Sustainable Cities Experiences, the first ever and the largest event bringing to Miami new ideas about Sustainability and Climate Action. The event brought Miami to the forefront of innovation in urban solutions with sustainability, and the world virtually connected. We had a roster of award-winning and globally-recognized speakers, the best thinkers in urbanism and technology, to raise the awareness of the importance of Urban Planning, Climate Action and Green Economy. Among participants, there were representatives from cities, countries, local, national and international technical bodies, non-governmental organizations, corporations, startups and entrepreneurs. At the event, I announced that Smart Cities Americas is building South Florida’s smart city ecosystem attracting leading smart cities companies to Miami that will generate $40 billion revenue for South Florida businesses, while creating more than 20,000 new jobs in our region in the next 5 years. Thank you all again. Hope you enjoyed and benefitted from all the presentations and discussions during the three-day event.

Sustainable Cities Experience DECEMBER 8-10, 2021

2021 continued SCEM 2021 continued the C-Movement, inviting Citizens , Community, and Circular Cities to join it. The C-Movement aimed to engage and empower citizens and communities to participate in the planning and implementation of actions to meet the core functions of their cities: livability, workability, and sustainability.

18

The C-Movement has the goal of engaging and empowering citizens, communities and cities. The new future envisioned is more about people connected to technology that responds to their needs and wishes than just smart technology itself. Quality of life, health, well-being, happiness, safety and privacy are the new indicators that we will have to take into account in the coming years. How can citizens be more active in their communities? How can they speak about their needs and express their ideas? How can they be engaged to contribute to the planning process and create a unified effort? How can they be educated about creating a more sustainable world and a circular economy model? How can we understand their technological needs and worries? How can communities connect with their citizens and empower them? How can communities be empowered to take a more decisive position in their cities? How can technology be developed to respond to citizens’ and communities’ endeavors? Citizens and communities are the leaders and drivers of change. Communities should

be interconnected to learn from and teach one another. Cities are the foundation of culture and people’s identities. Do we have a plan for the city with people, productivity and happiness in mind? Do we offer a real environment, using appropriate technology, that allows a comprehensive part of the population to speak up and participate in the city’s life? Is there new technology (right now) that is affordable and enables unprecedented participation while ushering in a new era of public support for a revitalized city? Do we have a controlled process that produces successful projects that fit into our plan without wasted time or money while eliminating corruption? Do we have a plan for maintaining the completed assets that is locally resourced and sustainable? Do we grant participation for citizens and communities to improve legislative and regulatory framework? There is urgency on the governance model’s transformation. The C-Movement is not a destination; it is a journey.

Sustainable & Resilient Miami

A commitment to developing a longterm climate strategy for the City of Miami.

Francis Suarez

Mayor, City of Miami Miami, Florida

Mayor Francis Suarez is the President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. In this capacity, he takes a leading role in collaborating with fellow mayors from around the country to preserve the environment and develop programs and policies that directly benefit the City of Miami. He also served at the MiamiDade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) and is the former President of the MiamiDade County League of Cities. In his role at TPO, Mayor Suarez championed the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Plan, which was unanimously approved. The SMART Plan expands mass transit options in MiamiDade County through six main corridors and new bus routes to ease traffic congestion and support future population growth.

As the mayor of Miami, I have experienced the devastation of climate change firsthand. But I’ve also seen the ways climate action and clean energy can provide a more sustainable and successful future for my city. Just as we made Miami the most wind-resilient city in the world, I want to make Miami the most flood-resistant city in the world. My administration has been aggressively committed to developing a longterm climate strategy that aims to support Miami’s businesses through policies and programs that will advance our transitions to a clean energy economy. Part of the commitment will be making Miami a carbon-neutral city by 2050. The clean energy industry currently employs over 60,000 people in Miami, making us eighth in the nation in green jobs. And as we continue to break through as a national leader in solar and electric vehicle infrastructure, we will have the opportunity to expand employment opportunities even further. None of this is possible overnight. It requires a meticulously coordinated effort across all of our departments. And, more importantly, it requires our residents to be fully invested in our vision. This issue impacts all of us, and it will take all of us to fix it. The time has passed to simply be reactive to climate change. We must be proactive and pave the way for other cities in the U.S. and around the world to achieve lower carbon emissions while ensuring our communities remain safe and prosperous. Addressing climate change is a moral imperative. And, if managed properly, it will also be the right move for the health of our residents and the health of our economy.

We must be proactive…ensuring our communities remain safe and prosperous… through policies and programs that will advance our transition to a clean energy economy.

Smart AND Resilient Cities – Tools for City Leadership

SPEAKER

22

The intersection between ‘Smart’ and ‘Resilient’ cities came into sharp focus. Right now, city managers have to use resources more intelligently demonstrating that worst case scenarios can in fact happen. This presentation looked at “smart resilience”: the premise of a data driven response, at a systemic city-level, to guide and maintain city readiness and capacity during times of shock.

Smart Cities are Resilient Cities This is the century of cities.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Jonathan Reichental CEO, Human Future

San Francisco, California Dr. Jonathan Reichental is a multiple awardwinning technology and business leader whose career has spanned both the private and public sector. He has been a Senior Software Engineering Manager and a Director of Technology Innovation and has served as Chief Information Officer at both O’Reilley Media and the City of Palo Alto. He also creates online education for LinkedIn Learning and has published the book Smart Cities for Dummies and Exploring Smart Cities Activity Book for Kids.

It's a period of great uncertainty and risk. Changes, for example, in how we work, live, and play, coupled with an unpredictable climate, which means that cities must evolve quickly and be able to respond to shocks. On top of that, urbanization is occurring all around the world so cities are growing rapidly. Cities are incredible places and they are our future. It’s pragmatic for city leaders and a wide range of stakeholders to plan and build for a wide variety of future possibilities. We have abundance today in many parts of the world and in our urban areas, but it comes at the price of our air quality and our water quality, becoming an immediate challenge for us. Between cars producing a lot of carbon emission and city infrastructure being stretched to the limit, our climate crisis needs attention. Being smart about resiliency is a core requirement of smarter and more sustainable communities. We need to explore this topic and suggest steps that leaders can take now. We have the opportunity to create value and improve our communities. Climate, economy, environment, society - these areas need to be baked into how we build our future cities. They can’t be an afterthought, especially with many communities already experiencing climate crisis. We have to build from the ground up with resiliency in mind. We see some great new ideas around building sustainability into every part of a city, from the materials used to transportation systems, energy, and green spaces, and the use of urban forests for better and cleaner air. But the real question then becomes: are cities ready? Are they ready for change and for the challenge that are ahead of us? I encourage us to think about these dimensions of resiliency as we think about the future of our cities… because the opportunity to innovate and deliver new products services to our cities can make them smarter and resilient.

By having clean air, water, parks, and other basic needs, we’re building healthier communities. We need to ensure that all these things are part of the DNA of our urban systems. 23

Smart Cities Miami: The Emergence of a Human-Centric, DataDriven Community Looking at smart cities as a system of systems. KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Paul Doherty

CEO, The Digit Group Memphis, Tennessee

Paul Doherty, AIA, is an Award-winning architect and Chairman and CEO of the Digit Group (TDG) Global Ventures, a Singapore-registered smart city real estate development company. Concurrently, Doherty is the co-founder and producer of the critically acclaimed AEC Hackathon.

Smart cities ecosystems are leveraging how the built environment is meeting the demands of human-centric design through data-driven processes. Urban innovations, technologies, techniques, and workflows are challenging conventions, shifting values, and developing new ways of providing services. The Digit Group looks at smart cities as a system of systems, where it’s really about discovering innovations, especially urban innovations, that help with the development and the delivery of housing, transportation, technology, energy, media, and health care. So when looking at the human-centric approach to a smart city, we found we were looking at happy people being healthy people. By using the digital twin of the individual, there’s a lot of information out there that moves beyond the built environment and actually then hits and inspires, and can help with behaviors within an environment in a digital twin. If we focus on ensuring that we hold people who are responsible for design, master planning, and construction accountable, we will create a much more inclusive, diverse, and equitable future for our urban environments. So we like to start with resiliency that leads into smart, creating a sustainable world that then is able to be flexible, scalable and adaptable. Here we looked at Miami, a unique city with its amazing neighborhoods and mix of community needs. The growth of Miami is a great benchmark for others around the world to see how, when putting together the proper types of governance and policies, along with the incentives for innovation and technology to work together, it creates a human-centric, data-driven community. This is the future. Being able to have the general public understand the transparency of the built environment, how we're contributing to the carbon footprint of the planet earth and why we are now putting systems into place to help.

This mixing of technologies is like writing a symphony… we now have the ability to take it from design into reality. 25

Building the Future of Sustainable Government This presentation discussed a strategic approach to mobility providing a blueprint for effective public sector digital transformation. Mobility is a daily challenge in cities and all urban environment. It has a high impact for nearly everyone, especially to those that rely on public transit. Data collected from the transit system can help leaders understand the needs of the population. Alongside that, mobility provides a model for thinking about sustainability that can extend to all operations, also helping leaders connect people with the services they want. If cities are planned, managed and governed well, then mobility can address many problems. The key areas to mobility are critical to success - they are the central to the broader digital transformation efforts in governments and cities, resident impact, sustainability, digital infrastructure, data and partnerships.

Climate Action The importance of welcoming locallevel public places for the overall development of Miami-Dade County, creating them in a smart way. KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Daniella Levine Cava

Mayor, Miami-Dade County Miami, Florida

Daniella Levine Cava was elected Miami-Dade County's first-ever woman Mayor in November 2020. She enters the Mayor's office following a 40-year career as a relentless advocate for South Florida families in public service and elected leadership. As Miami-Dade County's Mayor, she oversees a metropolitan government with more than 28,000 employees serving nearly 3 million residents, managing an annual budget of approximately $9 billion. Mayor Levine Cava's administration is focused on building a stronger, more inclusive, more resilient Miami-Dade: prioritizing reforms to make our county safer and prevent gun violence through the Peace and Prosperity Plan; restoring and reinvigorating a thriving economy that delivers economic security for Miami-Dade businesses and families and attracts new industries; saving Biscayne Bay and building and protecting our environment; and directly engaging with residents to make local government more responsive, transparent, and accountable.

The best place to take immediate action for change is through local government, community partners, smart entrepreneurs, and tech innovators. Miami has taken many steps forward to make the community more sustainable. With the number of challenges we are facing, Miami-Dade is working to partner with the federal government to invest funds into shovel-ready resilience projects that will create local jobs as well. Since Miami is uniquely vulnerable we are committed to fast-tracking these projects. One project, for example, includes two new pump stations. The environmental impact will be monumental what with the stations collecting more than 500,000 gallons of wastewater from septic systems that are failing. This will be creating approximately 4,000 new green jobs in small local businesses. The environment and economy will be thriving. We have a plan to finance the green industry in order to accelerate public and private investment, increasing the supply of businesses and skilled labor, harnessing transformational opportunity and economic benefits for historically-disadvantaged communities, and growing South Florida's expertise as a global leader in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Since Miami-Dade County is the gateway to the world, thanks to our outstanding global logistics and financial connections, along with the expansive national and global reach made possible by our thriving Port Miami and Miami International Airport, we realized that urban areas have a growing voice in the development of national and international goal setting. More often than not, action at the local level is where big ideas and well-intentioned promises are actually converted into boots-on-the-ground transformations, and all these positive changes improve the health, stability, and equitable transition to a prosperous economy.

Bold ideas are often best launched at the local level… and Miami-Dade County is the ideal place for innovation to happen. 29

Architects as Healers: Buildingsas asMedicine Machine Buildings “An awful lot of urban planning, particularly in poor areas, has doubly impoverished the poor by the ugliness which surrounds them; and it’s understandable that it’s so difficult to reach and sustain gentleness there.” This provocative statement from late Irish poet and philosopher John O’Donohue relates shortcomings of urban landscapes to social agitation, and it rings true for many cities across the globe. As future-proofing cities becomes critical to securing quality-of-life amid density, grassroots groups and policy makers have the potential to bring vitality, health and resilience to communities in urban areas.

SPEAKER

Angela Mazzi

We asked the question: what if architects were healers? And buildings are the medicine? We discussed approaching all problems in the world as a design problem, as well as collective health outcomes from this view. The top health problems in the world right now are: air pollution, noise pollution, water pollution—in the industrialized world, add obesity and sleep deprivation. The design of the built environment can exacerbate or resolve public health epidemics. We also looked at the hidden costs associated with not addressing these issues in the built environment as urbanization is on the rise. If cities are killing us, then there is poor quality of life.

Principal, GBBN Architect Cincinnati, Ohio

Angela Mazzi is Founder of Architecting, where she provides career and lifestyle coaching. She is also the Principal and Senior Medical Planner at GBBN. She's dedicated to enhancing quality of life through the built environment with emphasis on socio-cultural impacts.

Examples were provided on how architects, designers and planners have contributed to inclusive cities and built environments with equitably distributed resources and amenities that enhance quality of life and longevity for city dwellers, which equals a health span. “Resourcing citizens” is what we call this concept of one person being a lot more resilient than another in the same situation. Depending on the number of resources one has when encountering a threat, the person can either successfully handle it or it won’t impact them at all. We showed how to leverage the built environment to actually embed those resources; to cope within it so that resiliency is being built for the people that live in the cities.

City of Rotterdam: The Case for an Innovation Agenda that is Social In Nature Teaching digital skills in today’s digital world is a goal for the city. KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Bas Boorsma

CDO, City of Rotterdam

Rotterdam, The Netherlands Bas is a leading urban innovation and digitalization specialist & executive with 20 years of experience in the 'smart city' space. As per August 1, 2021, Bas serves as the (external) CDO to the City of Rotterdam. In this capacity Bas is lead orchestrator, facilitator and ambassador to the city and its innovation ecosystem. Bas also serves as Professor of Practice at the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. Bas is also Vice President EMEA of the Cities Today Institute, and also serves as Chief Innovation Officer at Change, a fast-growing Living as a Service company. He also serves as Member of the Board, at the Smart City Association Italy (TSCAI). Bas is the author of the wellacclaimed book “A New Digital Deal”.

Future forward is happening right now and it’s moving fast. We have become serious about time and place independent working and it’s no longer a centralized affair - an incredible development that will not go away. It’s going to evolve further and we have got to come prepared. We have to expand our agenda to ensure that our innovations are scalable and that our innovations are inclusive as well. One of the single largest challenges that we have as a city is helping mitigate digital divides. Yes, that's plural because it's no longer just the digital divide that we used to have in the 1990s, when it was just about the people that were online and the people that were offline. Today, we have multiple digital divides and that means so many things we have learned may not provide all the tools we need in order to prepare for the future. There needs to be a conversation about being digitally skilled which means understanding how to build your business on a digital fundament. If you start a pizzeria restaurant today and you don't know how to sell your product online, then what are your chances on surviving and turning your business into something great? Not very high. This progress requires support, however, and the City of Rotterdam focuses on that – teaching digital skills. City of Rotterdam goes where people are trying to understand and provide them with the skills they’re looking for in order to build their future. It is about inclusion. So in order to ensure people are being provided the opportunity to learn, we drive our social digital agenda forward by having that digital become a tool for citizen participation, while also making sure it helps drive social cohesion. We need to rethink our roles; we need to understand what we want out of the next several decades of technological change. With a plan, we can engage in the right way with our citizens for a new digital deal. And those that joined the movement can help build that new digital deal for our communities.

We have to think creatively… talk to our residents… build new partnerships… to carve out the future and ensure we get the harvest we need for our communities. 31

Transforming Streets to Adapt to Climate Change

SPEAKER

In the 21st century, urban areas will need to adapt to a changing climate and simultaneously act to significantly decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Planners, designers and engineers need to better manage water through urban design and landscape features that can accommodate tropical rains and create safer streets for pedestrians, bicyclists and transit users to encourage sustainable travel and carbon reduction.

Why Mayors Should Rule the World

SPEAKER

32

We need to transition away from nation states and, instead, talk about a system of cities. When we talk about cities, we are talking about the political institutions in which civilization and culture were born – the cradle of democracy. It’s time for mayors to globalize the world since they’re the ones that are from and part of the neighborhood.

Luis Guillot is the CTO Government Solutions Huawei LATAM and former General Director of ICT Governance Mexico City, as well as former Deputy Director of Technological Development INFOTEC. He studied Administrative and Computer Systems ITESM, Strategic Management of Information Technology and Strategic Business Management at UC Berkeley.

We see our Smart City as a human brain that has a nervous system – a network that extends throughout the city and connects all points that a city requires to improve everyday operations. Tangible information can be obtained but how can it be used to benefit society? Sensors were being used in big Latin American cities to be able to count the number of people on bicycles. Studies found areas where usage of bicycles was extremely popular. With this data, roadways were prepared and more effective streets were created. Bettering transportation and creating more green trends are on the rise and through the new ICT technologies, it really is possible to improve everyday activities. By providing better services to citizens, advances in cities are boundless. Smart streetlight not only lights up dark areas, but can also be seen as a computer. With technology, the smart streetlight holds both weather and air quality sensors allowing citizens to check on the number of contaminants in the air and quality of the oxygen they are breathing in. Along with these sensors, Wi-Fi access is granted; basic services that so many need are placed all around the city at crucial points. For all these processes, connectivity is key and with so much going, it’s important to stay aware of government services so the citizens can have a better livelihood; so there can be a better industry and commerce; so that the city can grow and improve and, in turn, create better government services that work for the citizens. Governance efficiency has been impeded dramatically. How can we help the public with better governance service is a global question. With technology, especially Smart City, we can help not only provide high-quality public service to the communities, but also enhance governance efficiency. In this session, we discussed several cases on Smart Education, Smart Medical, Smart Port and other technologies and what we can do now.

How we can help the public with better governance

service is a global question.
