INSIDE LOOK

Ken Norman, designer and owner of Floral Inspirations in Lewes, explainshow to recreate the cover look at home and transform your entryway into asummer feast for the eyes.

“On the day of this photoshoot, an unusually warm spring breeze blew down the street, taking with it the last fading tulip petal. We were looking forward to the bright and hopeful moments of an idyllic summer. For its relaxed pace, longer days, and warmer weather, summer is my favorite season. I love the bright, vivid, crisp color palette which can be seen in gardens all around town, at local produce stands, and around farmers markets. Even the clothes we wear are lighter and brighter with summer’s juicy hues. I hope you enjoy the bold and vibrant colors of the season evident in this entry décor.”

COLOR

I’d say color, first and foremost, is the eye-catching theme of this doorway. Here, I’veincorporated all those delicious summer hues … strawberry, raspberry, citrus, tangerine, mango, and lemon yellow! And, in my opinion, the palette is not complete without beautiful, neutralizing greens: lime, apple, and kiwi.

UNEXPECTED TWIST

Incorporating fruit—in this case the oranges and grapes—adds an unexpected botanical element while providing textural contrast. The addition of fruits, berries, and other plant materials will immediately elevate a design with a surprising punch of texture and color harmony, no matter the season!

PATTERN AND TEXTURE

Can you identify the flowers, foliage, and fruit in this colorfully patterned collage? Assorted chrysanthemums, dianthus, and roses were blended with gerbera daisies to construct most of the garland. Notice the subtle patterns created by painted aralia leaves, gardenia foliage, and budded willow branches. Those botanicals, combined with accents of hypericum berries, oranges, and green grapes, add bold and contrasting textures that enhance the color palette.
