COMMUNITY MINDED: Walden - The Direction Of Dreams

The direction of dreams To paraphrase Henry David Thoreau in his iconic book written from the shores of Walden Pond, there is something very satisfying about getting away from it all and living the life you’ve imagined. Designed as a peaceful retreat near picturesque waterways here in coastal Delaware, this 21st century Walden community captures its own essence of inspired living.

With a setting that is close to the beach yet tucked away on its own, Walden will deliver a laid-back coastal lifestyle enhanced by a new era of outdoor attractions. Positioned in a scenic Harbeson location with easy access to Lewes, here nature takes center stage. The thoughtfully designed neighborhood is flanked on one side by Burton’s Pond, while a variety of smaller water features are artfully scattered throughout the community, encouraging residents to interact with nature’s treasures.

Whether they’re looking forward to paddling in a kayak launched from the dock on Burton’s Pond or biking along the community trail, those who live at Walden will soon enjoy daily opportunities to get outside and experience the beauty of coastal Delaware.

Residents David and Dee Naples captured their impression of the location by saying, “We couldn’t ask for a more beautiful area, close to the Delaware Beaches, great restaurants, and historic Lewes.” In addition to these benefits, several Walden homeowners were quick to mention that they are looking forward to the future, family friendly amenities at Walden that will include a fitness center and recreation room as well as a tiki bar, pickleball courts, and an outdoor pool. The icing on the cake is that they get to enjoy a high quality of life with an HOA fee that is relatively low compared with other neighborhoods.

With more than 20 families already settled in and enjoying the Walden lifestyle, the neighborhood vibe is going strong, bolstered by morning walking groups and lively happy hours. Community Sales Managers Joe Wobeter and Carole Britain described the atmosphere as welcoming and inviting. “It’s a community where people are here for each other,” Joe explained. Eager to begin living the quintessential beach life they’ve imagined, new neighbors join in impromptu gatherings and backyard chats that turn first-time acquaintances into fast friends. Joe described the community spirit, saying, “We’re building homes while they’re building relationships—and the residents treat us like neighbors, too. It’s not uncommon for a homeowner to stop by our model home to drop off some cannolis from their last trip to New York.” Carole added, “I had a front row goosebumps as I watched strangers become neighbors and friends.”

Homeowners Jeffery Mose and Robert Krechnyak noted that the unique camaraderie is organically built into the community right along with the homes. As Jeffery explained, “Our appetite for Schell Brothers kept increasing as I studied the corporation, the communities, the homes, and most of all the happiness and dedication of its employees.”

With just 265 homes planned, the community is developing a friendly, small town ambiance.

A quick drive through Walden revealed that most homesites range in size from about 1/4- to 1/3-acre, with yards that provide plenty of space for grilling, playing games, letting furry friends run free, or even adding a swimming pool.

Walden residents enjoy convenient access to shopping, restaurants, and services, all within a few miles of the community. A nearby favorite is the Paradise Grill, where locals from surrounding neighborhoods arrive by cars and boats to enjoy casual fare and evening entertainment. “Any bar that has sand as a floor is my kind of place,” Joe said. And just two miles away, Baywood Greens, a popular public golf course with an elegant clubhouse restaurant, is another frequent destination for Walden residents. Occupying a beautifully manicured setting, the venue offers ideal surroundings for date nights or family brunches. Carole added, “Residents love the fact that they don’t have to venture out on Coastal Highway for services, food, or fun; at Walden, they’re close to everything. Jeffery Mose summed it up this way, ”Walden is a great mix of being close to the beach, close to the countryside, and a nice pathway to the Bethany Beach area. I kept thinking this will be my chapter to slow down. My experience with Walden has rejuvenated me to think otherwise!”

Picture yourself living the life you’ve imagined, where fun is designed into your surroundings, everything you need is within reach, and you’re just close enough to getting away from it all. There’s no need to imagine. It’s all right here—at Walden.
