The idea is to grow the plants, and at the end of the season, collect some of the seeds to return them to the library. Eventually, we will have a sustainable collection of native seeds for the community. The Native Plant Society will also offer occasional educational programs and seed cleaning and packaging events. All programs will be posted on the online calendar.

Ignite your child’s passion for reading with 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! The Schertz Public Library and the Schertz-Cibolo-Selma Lions Club are proud to offer the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, a fun and rewarding early literacy initiative designed to help your child develop a love for reading before they even step into a classroom. Sign up today to receive a FREE tote bag to help carry all those great stories. Register online or visit the Children’s Information Desk to get started. How it works:
• Read at least 1,000 books with your child before they start kindergarten — and watch their excitement grow with every milestone!
• After the first 100 books read, your child will receive a book as a reward.
• For every 100 books read together, your child will earn a sticker.
• After 500 books, they’ll earn another book to add to their collection.
Once they complete the full 1,000-book challenge, they’ll receive one final book to celebrate their achievement!
