A Surprise Present

My love language has always been receiving gifts. Out of the different love languages, receiving gifts has the worst reputation. It can be seen as materialistic and selfish for someone to measure someone else’s love by the gifts they give. However, those with this love language do not expect something expensive or luxurious. Random gifts without any occasion come across as thoughtful, such as a floral bouquet or food from a restaurant you like. The gifts represent attentiveness, that the person was listening carefully when you mentioned something you liked or what you wanted. And on my twenty-first birthday, a few of my friends gave me presents. The gifts were extremely different, and just by looking at them, I could tell that they listened and paid attention whenever I spoke about the things that I loved. It made me extremely happy to know that my words were acknowledged and it made the gifts even more meaningful to me.
