City of Chamblee, March 2023
The School of Continuing & Professional Studies at Georgia College & State University recently launched its Leadership & Management Academy focusing on providing professional development to emerging, new, and current leaders in Georgia’s cities and municipalities. The first certificate program was implemented in the City of Chamblee with the support of Angie Woodham, the Director of Continuing & Professional Education at Georgia College, and Jennifer Burke, HR Director for the City of Chamblee & GCSU Alumna
Fourteen City of Chamblee employees engaged in leadership development, business fundamentals, management strategies, and team-building exercises
“We implemented the program on-site at the beautiful City Hall in Chamblee," said Criscoe "We had fourteen participants who were engaged, each bringing something unique to the program One officer had a project idea for a Real Time Crime Center. He was able to incorporate this idea into a business case that could be pitched to city stakeholders It was rewarding to watch the participants supporting each other, laughing, and asking questions as they were discovering how to navigate management challenges and lead with confidence "
The Leadership & Management Essentials for Government Employees can be customized for any city, school district, business, or organization Curriculum development is in place for a second certificate program that will provide an advanced level of training to include Project Management, Budgeting, and Communication Strategies. Criscoe’s vision for the Leadership & Management Academy is to expand the offerings to provide project-based programs to help enhance cities, school districts, and businesses in the state of Georgia
