Thank you for your interest in Oak Hill School’s Under The Oaks Summer Program. This camp promises to provide your elementary or early middle school-age child with unique experiences both in and out of the classroom. Academic, enrichment and athletic sessions are offered for children entering prekindergarten through the sixth grade. Knowing that summer schedules are packed with various activities, Under The Oaks strives to make your experience as seamless as possible by offering the following options: »» Full-day camp schedule available for campers of all ages. »» Early morning care is available from 8-9 a.m. »» Lunch may be purchased for half-day and full-day campers.

PLAY are camps that involve movement and athletics and/or imaginative play. LEARN are camps that challenge the brain and help participants develop new skills and CREATE are camps in which participants will use their imaginations to make or create something. All camps are appropriate for both boys and girls unless otherwise noted in the description.

Boys Outdoor Adventure CaMP May 26-29 Boys Outdoor Adventure Week 3 days & 2 nights Explore the great outdoors with Oak Hill School coaches Carlton Stewart and Scott Mason. Campers will participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including a ropes course, fishing, canoeing, hiking, cooking and much more. The camp will culminate with a 3 day/2 night camping trip. Rising 6th Grade, Cost: $250

Week 1: June 1-5 9:00 AM TO 12:00 PM Football: 4th-6th Coach Carlton Stewart Oak Hill School Coach Carlton Stewart and his all-star staff will guide campers through the fundamentals of becoming a great football player. Learn from former pro and current NCAA players as they share their knowledge and insight about what it takes to succeed in football. Whether you are looking to be a defensive stopper or offensive star, you will learn techniques and fundamentals that will start you down the path to success. Magic Carpet: PK-K Jane Brown Magic Carpet Camp introduces campers to a variety of countries around the world through dramatic play. Each day, PreK teacher Jane Brown leads children on an exciting adventure with a special puppet, Genie of the Lamp, who is the tour guide for each new experience. After creating a special travel ticket, campers say the magic word and hop on the magic carpet. Off they go to experience another place and time. Limited to 12 campers. Supply Fee: $10 Scratch Jr.: K-2nd Margaret Koehler An introduction to coding using introductory programming language, Scratch Jr. which was specially created for children, ages 5-7, by Tufts University and MIT. Students will use Scratch Jr. to complete various Hour of Code projects and learn the building blocks of programming while also working on problem solving skills and creating stories with characters that move, make sound and more.

ISEE Prep: 6th Start preparing now! Students will become familiar with the type of questions that are found in each of the five sections of the ISEE—Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Math Achievement and the Essay. Students will learn test-taking strategies and work on sample questions from each section. The culminating activity will be a full mock ISEE test. Relic Hunters and Diggers 3rd-6th Mary Carter Seeking adventurous historians and archaeologists to hunt for Civil War relics at Oak Hill! Learn how archaeologists set up and document a dig, learn historical background about the Civil War, particularly the Battle of Nashville, and roll up your sleeves as we unearth relics from our historical, local past. Supply Fee: $10 Math Mania: K-2nd Terry Fralick Join lower school teacher Terry Fralick for a review and preview of math topics and skills. Each day the camp will feature math instruction and activities, including number sense, operations, measurement, geometry, fractions, probability, graphs, telling time, fast practice and logic puzzles. Rainbow-licious: K-2nd Sarah Faquin and Colleen Heaston PINK, PURPLE, EMERALD, GOLD and SILVER! Come celebrate the adventures of Pinkalicious. Each day will be a color party, as we use dramatic play, costume design, songs, dance, art, cooking and literacy to explore the color of the day.

Play. Learn. Create. 1:00 PM TO 4:00 PM Mini Museums: K-2nd Margaret Koehler Students will spend a week learning about art history, from cave paintings through contemporary art. Students will create daily masterpieces in the styles of the masters. At the end of the week, students will turn photos of their masterpieces into a shoe box gallery, creating a mini museum. Supply Fee: $10 Bust a Myth: 3rd-6th Mary Carter Is a piece of buttered toast more likely to land buttered side up or buttered side down? Is it possible to fold a piece of paper more than seven times? Will cola clean a penny or discolor a tooth? Get ready to bust your own scientific myth using the Mythbusters scientific method as inspiration. Campers will use a variety of clever and creative ways, gathering and analyzing evidence, to prove or disprove their very own science experiment. Throughout the week, campers will learn the importance of basic processes of scientific inquiry and discovery and maybe just bust a myth! Culinary Fun: 1st-6th Elizabeth Tardio Campers will not want to miss the opportunity to learn basic culinary skills from lower school teacher and culinary extraordinaire Elizabeth Tardio. Campers will learn how to make popular dishes while being introduced to the world of kids cuisine. Supply Fee: $10

Early Engineers: K-2nd Sarah Faquin and Colleen Heaston Budding engineers get ready! Oak Hill School lower school teachers Sarah Faquin and Colleen Heaston will lead campers through a series of engineering projects, integrating other disciplines and fostering problem-solving skills. Campers will learn how engineering “connects” to literature, design process, building activities, edible creations and technology. Supply Fee: $10 Fairytale Adventures: PK-2nd Terry Fralick Fairytales come alive at this camp for magical minds. Campers will enjoy reading and acting out fairy tales, creating their own fairytale storyline and sharing in a week of fairytale fun. Making Memories! Scrapbooking Fun! 2nd-6th Crystal Gregg Does your child love crafts? Then they will LOVE scrapbooking! This class will teach campers creative ways to organize photos and make adorable and interactive scrapbook pages that will keep their memories safe for a lifetime. All campers will “make and take” a fun and playful scrapbook album using their favorite pictures. All they need to do is be ready to have a great time! For this class, each camper will need five to 10 of their favorite photos (4"x 6" or 3”x 5”).

Week 2: June 8-12 9:00 AM TO 12:00 PM Getting to Know You: K Rannells and Bethurum A wonderful introduction to life at Oak Hill as a rising Kindergartener! We will tour our school and campus and explore the endless possibilities to learn and grow. The children will participate in an abbreviated version of a kindergarten school day with the addition of exciting integrated subjects in science, art and social studies. We will not only get to know kindergarten teachers, but also our future classmates and even guest speakers and performers. Come on and sign up for the best week in summer ever! Supply Fee: $10 Friends Making a Difference: 4th-6th Caroline Crouch and Anna Stowers Each day campers will spend time working on a project to benefit the community, such as creating puppets and delivering them to children in the hospital, serving lunch at a shelter or organizing food for a food bank. Campers will have the opportunity to be involved with serving the community and gain a better understanding how that experience can shape their lives. Track Academy: 2nd-6th Don Dryden Oak Hill School Coach Don Dryden brings his 30 years of track and field coach experience to campers interested in learning fundamentals and training techniques for track and field elements, including sprinting, middle-distance running, long-distance running, high jump and long jump. The weeklong camp is designed as a springboard to move into or return to a camper’s school track or cross-country team. 6

Animals and Art: K-3rd Susie Elder Explore artworks by master artists who found inspiration from the animal world. Art teacher Susie Elder will help campers express their imaginations as they use different types of media, including paint, collage and sculpting materials while learning about amazing animals. Supply Fee: $10 Cultural Connections: 1st-6th Gibson Keith Come and discover the crafts, culture, music and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries with Oak Hill School Spanish teacher Gibson Keith. Campers will also explore the unique aspects of el Día de los Muertos and have the opportunity to make Mexican calaveras (sugar skulls). Reading Around The World: K-2nd Terry Fralick Campers and lower school teacher Terry Fralick will pay a visit to a different country each day to learn about the things that make it interesting, including location, climate, culture and landmarks. Campers will read folktales or stories and have the opportunity to try each country’s traditional food.

Create. 1:00 PM TO 4:00 PM Lego Land: K-4th Don Dryden During this exciting, hands-on experience, campers will design their own authentic plans to construct buildings and transportation vehicles for LegoLand. Oak Hill School physical education teacher Don Dryden will reinforce to campers the importance of working together to complete their project, while allowing time for campers to focus on their individual designs. Lego kits will come home with engineer campers at the end of the week. Supply Fee: $10 Paint Paint Paint: K-3rd Susie Elder Artist campers will develop their creativity and explore their imaginations as they paint on paper, canvas and wood. While learning the basics of primary and secondary color, art teacher Susie Elder will encourage campers to paint big and bold with watercolor, tempera and acrylic paints. Supply Fee: $10 Flag Football: 1st-3rd Carlton Stewart Oak Hill School Coach Carlton Stewart and his all-star staff will provide young campers with an introduction to flag football skills and competition. The staff will share knowledge and insight about what it takes to succeed in football. Campers will learn proper techniques and fundamentals of flag football that will start them on the path of football success. American Girl Summer Tea Party: PreK-2nd Anna Stowers Bring a favorite American Girl doll and enjoy a week that is perfect for doll-loving girls. This camp will be filled with American Girl themed activities, crafts and games. The week concludes with a tea party planned just for girls and their dolls.

Design Divas: 1st-5th Caroline Crouch Campers will use their imaginations to craft a variety of diva-like creations, including elaborate paper dolls, a dream dollhouse and one-of-a kind jewelry. Using a variety of recycled materials, charms and embellishments, each camper’s creations will be a dazzling collection of her individual style and personality. Supply Fee: $10 AV Club: 2nd-6th Gibson Keith Technology is here to stay! During this camp, Oak Hill School teacher Gibson Keith will lead a discussion about a variety of audiovisual topics. Campers will have the opportunity to shoot photography, film videos and enjoy hands-on learning to use Apps and iBook Author. Readers' Theatre: K-2nd Margaret Koehler Students will work on a variety of reading skills, including comprehension, fluency and accuracy, while having opportunities to work collaboratively to put on mini productions of Readers' Theater scripts. Throughout the week, students will create backdrops and props to enhance their Readers' Theater roles. Friday will include a final performance of the scripts complete with popcorn and juice. Adventure Camp: 3rd-6th Come along for a week-long tour of adventure activities in the Nashville area. Campers will enjoy bowling, ice skating, roller skating, movies, go karts, mini golf and laser tag. Jump on this opportunity for a jam-packed week of fun!

Week 3: June 15-19 9:00 AM TO 12:00 PM Pirate Camp: PK-2nd Terry Fralick Ahoy, Matey! Here be the tellin’ of tall tales and mischief of life as a pirate. Pirate campers will join Capn’ and lower school teacher Terry Fralick to learn about some of the most famous pirates known to sail the high seas. Come aboard for a week-long adventure of stories, ships and surprises. Summer Reading Adventures: 1st-3rd Caroline Crouch Young readers get ready for an adventure! The Lower School Summer Reading Challenge shows reading involves much more than just books, with trips to the library, seeing a puppet show, visiting a local bookstore, writing a letter to an author and more. This camp is sure to combine a little learning mixed with fun! Boxapalooza: 2nd-6th Don Dryden What can be built out of a cardboard box—a castle, fort or spaceship? The possibilities are endless. Physical education teacher Don Dryden will help campers cooperatively research, plan, design and build a structure all out of cardboard boxes. Campers will use creativity and innovation while having fun to build a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Showtime Train Theatre: PK-1st Jane Brown and Penny Hodgson All aboard the Showtime Train! Come join conductors Jane Brown and Penny Hodgson on a magical journey, where campers can change into their favorite character and perform on our Showtime Theater stage. Based on familiar children's literature, campers might be a superhero, a princess, a mermaid or a silly monster as they get ready to act out different plays each day. Campers will also have fun making simple props, costumes, scenery and creating their own magical space. Grab your imagination and climb aboard! Supply Fee: $10 Flag Football: 1st-3rd Carlton Stewart Oak Hill School Coach Carlton Stewart and his all-star staff will provide young campers with an introduction to flag football skills and competition. Play. Learn. Create. 1:00 PM TO 4:00 PM Digging Up Dinosaurs: PK-2nd Terry Fralick Jurassic Park comes to Under the Oaks when campers become young paleontologists for a week of dinosaur fun. Where did dinosaurs live? What did dinosaurs eat? What did dinosaurs look like? During this exciting week of dinosaur learning, campers will explore all things about dinosaurs. Boys Basketball: 2nd-6th Carlton Stewart Join Oak Hill School Coach Carlton Stewart as he introduces younger campers to the basic fundamentals of the game, such as ball handling, passing, footwork and proper shooting form. More advanced players will have the opportunity to practice more challenging skill work and engage in competitive game time at the end of each day. Woodworking: 1st-5th Don Dryden Students will assemble three projects in wood (2 small and one large), using simple tools and techniques, emphasizing safety while exploring the pleasure of woodworking. Campers will enjoy making their own creations to take home. Supply Fee: $10

365 Fun! 2nd-5th Robin Rodriguez Wondering what to do on a rainy day? Campers will not be bored again after learning a variety of activities, crafts and projects that can be recreated. Campers will learn to recycle, create and execute teamwork, while learning fun and exciting rainy day activities.

Campers will use their imaginations and a variety of recycled materials to build and decorate a dream dollhouse that will make even Barbie jealous. Just Kickin It!: K-6th Frank Primm Campers will learn the kicks, punches, blocks and releases which form the beginning moves in traditional Taekwon-Do. All campers will have the opportunity to use these skills in obstacle courses, board-breaking and no-contact sparring. They will simultaneously be using the etiquette of Taekwon-Do, which includes being courteous, honest, respectful, and having selfcontrol. Campers will also learn how to count to 10 in Korean. This camp provides a great opportunity for character development, physical fitness and most of all having FUN!

Soccer: PK-3rd Scott Mason Soccer fundamentals and basic ball skills will be introduced by Oak Hill School Coach Scott Mason to help improve campers’ overall game. Campers will focus on dribbling, trapping, passing, shooting the soccer ball and working as a team. The camp will include several scrimmages throughout the week. Kick-start the summer with this fun-forall-ages opportunity!

Create. 1:00 PM TO 4:00 PM Future Chess ChampionsBeginners Camp: K-6th Ron Seaney During The Future Chess Champions Camp, campers will learn the essential rules, tactics, strategies, openings and endgames for playing an excellent game of chess. Professional chess trainer Ron Seaney will use lessons, activities and practice games to develop the campers' skills. Girls Basketball: 2nd-6th Kaitlin Adams Join Oak Hill School Coach Kaitlin Adams for high-tempo fun as campers hit the hardwoods. The camp is designed to establish a solid foundation for basketball fundamentals, balancing skill work with fun.

Adventure Camp: 3rd-6th Scott Mason and Sarah Lundy Come along for a week-long tour of adventure activities in the Nashville area. Campers will enjoy bowling, ice skating, roller skating, movies, go karts, mini golf and laser tag. Jump on this opportunity for a jampacked week of fun! Cakes for Kids: PreK-3rd Anna Stowers Learn the basics of baking your own cakes, using creative designs and fun flavors. Campers will create a different treat each day. Supply Fee: $10

Week 5: July 6-10 9:00 AM TO 12:00 PM DecathaLawn Games: K-3rd Joe Miles The Decatha-Lawn will incorporate 10 of the best lawn games. Campers will play a different game each day, including bean bag toss, washers, ladder golf, paddleball, ring toss, outdoor bowling, mini golf, lawn darts and hacky sack. Summer will be complete with the outdoor fun this camp provides! ISEE Prep: 6th Start preparing now! They will also learn how to handle emergency situations, apply first aid and effective nap and bedtime routines. Glitz and Glamour: PreK-3rd Anna Stowers Fashionistas, are you ready to take jewelry design to the next level? Dazzle everyone with the jewelry and bling made during this camp. Campers will learn how to make and incorporate a variety of charms, chains and jewels to create one-of-a-kind jewelry and accessories.

Cheer: PK-4th Lisa Neely You’ve seen them at football games and helped them cheer on the team. Now it’s time for campers interested in cheerleading to shout it loud and proud! Cheerleading coach Lisa Neeley will teach chants, cheers, and even some tumbling. Campers will learn how to get a crowd fired up with signs, face painting and dance. Just don’t forget to bring the most important thing to camp…spirit! Fly High: K-4th Joe Miles Just how far will a paper airplane fly? Campers will use different gadgets like paper clips, tape and more to create their own paper flying machines and discover just what soars through the air. This camp will be a lesson in high-flying fun!
