The modern guitar method for young people and adults offers the recipe for success when it comes to melody playing, picking and chord accompaniment. It does not make a difference if you are an absolute beginner or if you already know a few chords. For with the pieces that you have always wanted to play, you also learn to play the guitar: plucking, melody and song accompaniment, and the major chords and rhythms with which you can play the best 50 folk and pop songs. The CD as a training partner guarantees a lot of fun and success: You can listen to the songs as they are supposed to sound. Fade out one of the channels! You then have 3 possibilities to play along: melody, picking or rhythm.
Dieter Kreidler’s new guitar method is aimed primarily at children and young people who want to learn to play the guitar in small steps. It contains numerous ensemble pieces and varied exercises for song accompaniment and is suited for both private and group lessons. Right from the beginning, the first experiences of ensemble playing are gained with the group. The method intentionally moves forward in small steps. The exercises and instrumental pieces of various styles are arranged in a progressive order and framed by inspiring illustrations, riddles, info boxes and creative exercises which stimulate the imagination and make the lessons a lot of fun. Vol. 1 of the new guitar method covers the basics of melody playing and song accompaniment on the guitar and introduces to ensemble playing. The accompanying guitar note finder makes it easy for the pupil to find the notes on the fingerboard in a playful way.
Rolf Tönnes, born in 1957, studied jazz guitar in Graz. He has published several guitar books and works as a lecturer at the Jazz-Haus-Schule in Cologne. Whereas the influence of modern guitarists can be detected in his ensemble playing, his solo playing is characterized by the influence of Joe Pass. Rolf Tönnes in one of the top guitarists of the jazz scene.
Dieter Kreidler is professor of guitar in Wuppertal and lecturer in further education at various music academies.

Mauz’ clarinet method (German and Böhm systems) is aimed at beginners and suitable for private and group lessons. It is published in three volumes plus a separate tune book each. The method’s easy comprehensibility, suitable selection of numerous songs as well as four-colour illustrations will appeal especially to clarinet pupils aged 8+. Since such a method does not exist in the German-language area yet, it fills that gap in the market and is a real addition to the Schneider clarinet method (ED 4466 and ED 8638/39) which is aimed at older pupils and adults. Vol. 1: Detailed treatment of the low register. Introduction to the dynamics and first overblowing. Vol. 2: Careful expansion of the tonal range (up to C’’’) and of the dynamics. Scales and triads up to 3# and 3b. Vol. 3: Expansion of times, keys, rhythms and of the tonal range. Major ornaments and the chromatic scale. The tune books of Mauz’ clarinet method are adjusted to the respective methods with regard to the tonal range, dynamics and articulation. They provide additional performance material for clarinet and piano as well as for 2 or 3 clarinets.

Step by Step Grundlagen der Trompetentechnik in 64 Etüden aus fünf Jahrhunderten 88 pages – paperback 23,1 x 30,3 cm € 14.95 ISBN 978-3-7957-9632-7 · ED 20194 This volume is a compendium of study literature from five centuries for the student, beginning with the first trumpet methods such as that of Fantini via the heyday of virtuoso literature in the early 20th century to the experimental playing techniques of our time. The book contains two exemplary studies of each composer which either can be considered to be typical of the respective style or put their focus on extraordinary technical or musical problems. All studies have been carefully revised, especially with regard to obvious typesetting mistakes of the original copies, and been rid of unnecessary ballast regarding phrasing and articulation. Malte Burba, born 1957, comes from a family of musicians, where the groundwork for his musical sensibility was laid at an early age. He studied trumpet, piano, musicology and music education. His supplementary studies of phonetics and medicine provided him with essential knowledge and an impetus for the development of his method and for the brilliant control and mastery of his instruments. His almost unlimited mastery of brass instruments gives him additional artistic leeway for the interpretation of classical, modern, contemporary and experimental music through the use of a wide range of instruments such as the various trumpets, the euphonium, alphorn, althorn and the didgeridoo. Not only does Malte Burba rank among the most interesting and versatile brass players of our time, he is also considered to be one of the best brass teachers worldwide. Many of his students play in leading orchestras or teach at major conservatories. One of the pillars of his pedagogy is the pioneering method developed by him for playing brass instruments which, in an absolutely logical manner, eliminates all technical and embouchure-related problems. He currently teaches at the Peter Cornelius-Konservatorium and the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz, and at the Conservatoire de Musique Luxembourg.

Suitable for both private and group lessons, it continuously brings the pupils from the very first lesson to lively music-making and a sound technical level. Vol. 1 of this method provides the basics, creating a tonal range from B to C’’ using the C major scale and triad. Other important elements of comprehensive teaching are simple improvisation, composing, musical interpretation and ear training. By including all major areas of learning, the pupils discover the ‘world of music’ with joy and imagination. And this is exactly the aim of this method: The children shall not just learn to play the trumpet but also develop into interested musicians. The complementary tune book 1 encourages joint music-making, helps the children to discover the joy of playing music and deepens the subject matter of the method. It contains songs, duos, trios and many settings with piano accompaniment. The level of difficulty is in tune with the structure of the method: In each piece it is indicated from which number in the trumpet method the 1st part can be played. The additional teacher’s edition supports the teachers by providing them with many suggestions and ideas for the planning and delivery of interesting lessons.

Over the course of the lessons, the pupils are deliberately addressed in a language that corresponds to their age. Furthermore, the method provides a stylistically varied range of classical and folkloristic instrumental pieces, and always gives a lot of interesting information on the music and its composers. Vol. 1: Detailed introduction to the bow hold – songs and instrumental pieces, using exclusively the first type of fingering while focussing on rhythmic, melodic and technical variety – playful touching and feeling of violin-playing techniques such as pizzicato, position playing, harmonics and double stops. Vol. 1 is accompanied by a CD (T 3272) containing all songs and pieces with funny dialogues spoken by children. A motivating addition to violin lessons and a great gift idea! Renate Bruce-Weber was born in Braunschweig in 1956. At the age of 7 she received her first violin lessons and won many prizes and scholarships, such as from the festival ‘Jugend musiziert’ and the Eastman School of Music at Rochester, USA. She studied violin with Professor Ludwig Müller-Gronau at the North West German Music Academy of Detmold and chamber music with Professor Wilhelm Isselmann. She taught violin at the Hamburg Conservatoire where she founded a children’s orchestra with which she gave many successful concerts. Since 2003 she has taught mainly children from Hamburg, St. Pauli in cooperation with primary schools in Hamburg.

Those who have already played the violin and use the method as a ‘way to change instruments’ may skip some pieces or even start with Vol. 2. Like ‘Die fröhliche Violine’, this book intends to make the children have fun while learning to play the viola. For this purpose, a stylistically varied range of classical and folkloristic songs and instrumental pieces encourage music-making, and small texts provide interesting information on the viola, the music and its composers. The viola is used both as a solo and as an accompanying instrument, and the ‘hearing’ and ‘counting’ of middle and lower lines are specifically trained. Due to the fact that many songs and secondary parts are notated in the treble clef and thanks to examples for trio and quartet playing, this book especially encourages ensemble playing with friends or within the family.

Play Piano By Ear 270 pages with CD – paperback 17,3 x 24,5 cm € 19.95 ISBN 978-3-7957-5519-5 · ED 9280 It is no secret that the majority of piano owners, in addition to playing classical music, would also like to play popular standards and pop songs, just like the piano player in a bar or cocktail lounge does, improvising and going from one tune to another. Here, finally, you have a new and simple method that will enable you to fulfill your secret wish to improvise at the piano, completely by ear. Simon Schott was born in Munich in 1917. After the Second World War he remained in Paris where he made ends meet, as he says himself, by playing the piano at third-class night clubs at Montmartre. One day, Harry McElhone, the owner of the then famous ‘Harry’s New York Bar’ in Paris, heard Simon Schott’s soft piano style and hired him on the spot. From then on, it was the world’s rich and famous who were among his audience. Ali Khan, Rita Hayworth, Humphrey Bogart, Coco Chanel, Ernest Hemingway and many others relaxed while he played his melodies, and talked to him. Before returning to Munich, he lived and worked in London for two years. Now, he has been playing the piano at the Kempinski hotel ‘Vier Jahreszeiten’ in Munich every evening from 5 – 8 p.m. for more than twenty years. He became known to a wide audience by TV and radio appearances, such as in the shows ‘NDR Talkshow’ or ‘Boulevard Bio’. The Bavarian Television made a documentary film about his life. In addition, he has found the time to write about twenty books – crime and science-fiction novels, books for young people and books on music. His romantic thriller ‘Das Bildnis der Alice Farnworth’ was awarded the ZDF prize ’Preis der Leseratten’.

Developed by Reinhard Flatischler in 1970, TaKeTiNa is a comprehensive method for learning and understanding rhythm. In the book, the author describes how the method has been developed, how it is structured and can be learnt. Focussing on rhythmic (in most cases combined) movements of the feet, hands (clapping) and voice, the method also uses drums and other rhythm instruments. The TaKeTiNa Explorer on the attached DVD enables the users to perceive rhythms visually and acoustically and program their own rhythms – from simple to very complex patterns. TaKeTiNa offers a theory and methodology of rhythm for the people of today – for musical amateurs and professional musicians as well as for music therapists, social educators and managers.
A novel combination of DVD and book, this volume presents for the first time issues pertaining to vocal techniques and interpretation in word, picture and sound. DVD clips provide insights into the working method of the renowned tenor Christoph Prégardien who can be seen in his lessons with students of his master classes. In addition, the singer and teacher Hedwig Fassbender deals with specific problems for the female voice; the pianists Michael Gees and Andreas Staier talks about accompanying singers. Professionals, amateurs, students and lovers of classical singing are provided with a plethora of important and valuable information. In the book, Christoph Prégardien deals with further questions on programming, correct practising and warm-ups, concert preparations and voice problems, among others. This innovative product is complemented by a detailed discography of Christoph Prégardien as well as bibliographical references and recommendations.
Reinhard Flatischler was born in Austria and successfully holds TaKeTiNa workshops and performances in America, Germany, Austria, etc. throughout the entire year.

Carolan’s Dream 15 Stücke für Flöte (Violine) und Klavier 44 pages with CD– paperback 23,1 x 30,3 cm € 17.95 ISBN 978-3-7957-5859-2 · ED 20201 Unlike any other, Turlough O’Carolan (1670–1738) knew how to combine old Irish music with Italian Baroque music which the high society liked to listen to at that time. The use of little repeating motifs, the kind of melody and way of tension building reveal Carolan’s sense and knowledge of the styles of playing typical of the Baroque period. These Baroque influences in his harp music became his unmistakable trademark. Thus, he created a whole new genre, as it were: the Celtic Classics. Turlough O’Carolan was born in 1670 in Nobber, co. Westmeath, Ireland. He was taken under the patronage of Mrs. MacDermott Roe of Alderford to be educated. However at the age of 18 he was blinded by smallpox, and so his patron stopped his education and instead had him sent to be trained as a harper for three years. Upon his finishing his musical training at the age of 21 she provided him with a horse, a guide and some money, to start him on his career as an itinerant harper. Carolan built a successful career as a harper, winning many patrons both Irish and English, Protestant and Catholic. He himself was Catholic and composed music for the church. However only one of his sacred pieces is known to have survived, ‘The Elevation’. Carolan married Mary Maguire from Fermanagh; they had six daughters and one son. Mary died in 1733 and Turlough died in Alderford in 1738. Wolfgang Löll was born in Wetzlar an der Lahn in 1961. At an early age he took lessons there with the post-Romantic composer, pianist and conductor Gustav Adolf Schlemm (1902– 1987). At music college in Frankfurt he trained to teach music in secondary schools; he also studied musicology and English at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. Patrick Steinbach was born in Hamburg in 1964 to an Irish mother and a German jazz musician father. He trained as a music teacher in Frankfurt am Main and now teaches guitar at various music schools. Besides playing the guitar, he also plays the banjo and mandolin and is an enthusiastic collector of songs. He has edited numerous tutorial volumes of Irish folk tunes for the guitar and organises workshops based on Irish music. Patrick Steinbach is a guitarist, composer and arranger of Irish music in particular: with numerous journeys to his second homeland he has made a name for himself as a connoisseur of all things Irish and a specialist in folk music. His book of Irish reels won a major German music publishing prize in 2005.

Let’s swing, Mr. Diabelli! 14 Jazzy Pieces for Piano Duet 40 pages with CD – paperback 23,1 x 30,3 cm € 13.95 ISMN 979-0-001-16957-8 · ED 20718 The success story of Diabelli’s ‘Melodic Exercises’ Op. 149 for piano duet has lasted now for almost 200 years. They are beautiful melodies covering a range of only five tones, perfectly suitable for beginners, with refined and brilliantly designed accompanying settings in the Secondo part. To this day, the pieces are very popular among pupils, teachers and music lovers. Diabelli, born in 1781, was not only a respected piano teacher and composer in Vienna, but also a busy music publisher and friend of Ludwig van Beethoven who jokingly called him ‘my diabolus’ from time to time. Sometimes he sent themes composed by himself to the then famous composers, asking them to write and return to him some variations on these themes. This led to the creation of the famous Diabelli Variations by Beethoven, a demanding piano work which is performed in the concert halls all over the world still today. Hopefully, Mr. Diabelli would not mind some of his wonderful five-tone melodies being transported into the world of swing, samba and other forms of expression, as has been done in this volume. Apart from some arranged melodies from opus 149, this volume also contains a few newly arranged pieces, all of them inspired by Diabelli’s idea to make music with five fingers as varied as possible. The original arrangement of the keys has been maintained. New inspiration for piano lessons and fourhanded piano playing!

These anthologies contain original compositions by nineteenthcentury composers. Several of the pieces are available for the first time as part of a graded collection. The repertoire includes works by major composers, such as Chopin and Schumann, as well as lesser-known pieces by, amongst others, Bortkiewicz and Rimsky-Korsakov. These collections are ideal for piano teachers looking for additional repertoire for their teaching practice. Nils Franke has held scholarships and awards at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, the University of Reading and the Royal Academy of Music. After the completion of his studies he pursued a dual career in performance and music education. As a pianist, he has specialized in 19th-century piano music, particularly Liszt, and recorded chamber music by Bortkiewicz and Rachmaninov for Warner Apex (2005). He regularly plays piano quintets with his ensemble, performing a broad range of music from Boccherini to Messiaen. As an educator, he has taught piano extensively, worked as a mentor on professional development courses for instrumental teachers and is now Director of the BA (Ed) music specialism and MTPP (Music Teaching in Professional Practice) at the University of Reading, UK.

This collection contains pieces of varying degrees of difficulty (easy to moderate) from three centuries of music. It includes several enchanting and little-known miniatures which, as a collection, should be a welcome addition to the advanced guitar repertoire, both for tuition purposes and concert performance.
‘Romantic Guitar Anthology’ Vol. 1 is a graded repertoire book suitable for students of ca. 2–3 years of playing experience. Standard teaching pieces by the 19th century’s leading composer-guitarists Carulli, Giuliani and Sor are presented alongside rarely available works by Jaime Bosch, Johann Kaspar Mertz and Franz Tu ek. Also includes original guitar pieces by Berlioz and Paganini.
Konrad Ragossnig was born in Klagenfurt on 6 May 1932. From 1954–1957 he studied guitar with Karl Scheit at the Vienna Musikhochschule. In 1961 he won the Concours International de Guitare which marked the beginning of his international career as a guitarist and lutenist. Together with Julian Bream, Konrad Ragossnig helped the lute grow in popularity in the 1970s. Being one of the most important guitarists of the 20th century, he put his main focus on chamber music with non-guitarists. Konrad Ragossnig has recorded more than 60 records and performed in numerous radio and television productions. From 1964–1983 Ragossnig taught at the Basel Music Academy. In 1983 he succeeded Karl Scheit as professor at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts where he taught until 2002. In addition, he worked as a guest professor at the Zurich Musikhochschule and held master classes in Europe, the USA and Japan from 1989 to 1997. Among the numerous awards and distinctions he received is the Austrian Honorary Cross for Science and Arts, 1st class in 2003.
Romantic Guitar Anthology Vol. 2 is a graded repertoire book suitable for students of around 4 years of playing experience. Standard teaching pieces by the 19th century’s leading composer-guitarists Coste and Sor are presented alongside more rarely available works by Jaime Bosch, Franz Tucek and José Vinas. Original pieces by Berlioz and Paganini are included, as are carefully selected transcriptions of works by Rossini, Schumann and Johann Strauss. Composer biographies and extensive teaching notes on each piece are included together with a CD recording of all of the works in the anthology, performed by Jens Franke.

Classic meets Jazz 20 berühmte klassische Themen, Original + jazzige Bearbeitung Vol. 1 90 pages with CD – paperback 23,1 x 30,3 cm € 19.95 ISBN 978-3-7957-5847-9 · ED 20177 Vol. 2 80 pages with CD – paperback 23,1 x 30,3 cm € 19.95 ISBN 978-3-7957-0641-8 · ED 20537 This volume contains a wide selection of famous musical themes from Bach to Carl Orff. Some of them were originally written for the piano; most have had their scores carefully arranged to make them easy to play on the piano. Each piece is followed with a jazz interpretation, which can either be played alone or alongside the ‘original’ version. Perhaps this will show that the ‘classics’ are not all that far removed from jazz, and that music of earlier periods contains many of the essential characteristics of jazz. Doesn’t Lully‘s ‘Gavotte’, for instance, contain one of the most famous jazz themes ever? The ‘Blue Gavotte’ may make this clearer. The theme from Mozart’s Sonata in A major (K 331) doesn’t require many rhythmic changes to give it a blues flavour (‘Mozart Goes Blues’). The driving rhythm of the ostinato bass in Carl Orff’s ‘O Fortuna’ would suit modern jazz-rock performers well, with a few small changes (‘A Fortune for a Tune’). What do Bizet’s ‘Habanera’, Brahms’ ‘Hungarian Dance No. 5’ and Paganini’s ‘Caprice No. 24’ have in common? Why have they been turned into salsa music (‘Habanera con Cigarro’, ‘Hungarian Salsa No. 5’, ‘Capriccio Latino’)? Much of this is up to the individual: if you want to discover similarities, they are easy to find. It is difficult to convey a jazz interpretation through musical notation alone, so a CD has been included - not to demonstrate the only possible interpretation, but to offer ideas and suggestions.

Discovering Orff 225 pages – paperback € 44.95 ISBN 978-0-930448-99-8 · SMC 99 This book is intended for those who want detailed, practical assistance in how and why to use Orff techniques and materials in the classroom. Goals are outlined and the best ways to achieve them are explored, but the principal focus is on the arrangement of the curriculum in a logical sequence. Such a structure provides a reasonable progression from simple to more complex objectives not only from day to day but from year to year. Structured learning need not be the enemy of improvisation but rather the best way to provide students with the tools they need to improvise. The book contains an introduction to the development of OrffSchulwerk and a discussion of the distinguishing features of this approach. Chapter Two introduces the activities children use in their music-making. The teaching procedure that structures those activities is taken up in Chapter Three while Chapter Four explains the vocabulary and accompaniment theory essential to the Orff teacher. Part Two applies these elements in a sequential curriculum designed for Grades One through Five. Especially important in each chapter is the inclusion of supporting activities designed to aid in teaching the various skills and concepts.

The magical sounds of these instruments are available to everyone – even without special training. However, a step-by-step approach to mallet instruments encourages instrumental facility and promotes beautiful sounds. Playing Together is the first book to offer the systematic guidance you need to help your students develop mallet skills with ease.
‘Elementaria’ is a fundamental and practical handbook to OrffSchulwerk . The author gives suggestions and examples without insisting dogmatically on one exclusive method. She offers well-tried solutions without excluding other possibilities and individual variations. It is not only a valuable personal document, but also a practical and essential guide for educationalists concerned with Orff-Schulwerk. The book is divided into two sections: Part One includes rhythmic, melodic and speech exercises. Part Two contains a detailed study of elementary movement training. There is an important appendix, with illustrations, on how to play the instruments used in the early stages of teaching. This book also contains music examples, movement diagrams and illustrations.
In this book you will find a sequenced program for building instrumental technique that begins with sound effects, proceeds to playing accompaniments, and – finally – melodies. Skills are introduced in a carefully sequenced presentation of authentic and artistic musical materials: folk melodies, Renaissance music, composed pieces, and standard Orff literature. Three Orff master teachers have also provided a classroom reality check for these materials, offering suggestions to encourage skillful playing and enjoyment.

While Orff training is helpful, it is not a prerequisite for classroom application of the music in this book. You can achieve success if you are able to play the recorder, respect the ranges and colors of the instruments, and acknowledge the inestimable contribution of instruments toward building musicianship in your students.

Volume 3 of ‘Documentation, His Life and Works’, an eightvolume autobiography of Carl Orff, published by Hans Schneider, Tutzing, Germany. A unique personal history of Schulwerk, from the early days in 1923 when Carl Orff came under the influence of Dorothee Günther, Mary Wigman and Gunild Keetman, to the ‘Symposium Orff-Schulwerk 1975’ in Salzburg which crowned a lifetime devoted to Schulwerk – ‘an idea that went around the world’. Carl Orff’s fascinating reminiscences on people and events concerned with Schulwerk, the evolution of his instrumentarium, early publications, and the development of Schulwerk on an international basis are accompanied by music examples and many historical photographs.
Teacher and performer Doug Goodkin presents an overview of the dynamic approach to music education known as Orff Schulwerk. In this comprehensive look at the many facets of this timeless practice, the author hopes to re-imagine its import in the lives of children, schools and culture at large in contemporary times. ‘Carl Orff’s educational ideas could not have an advocate more well equipped by fortune and disposition. Inspired initially by Avon Gillespie, who embodied playing, singing and dancing, Doug Goodkin also brings to his teaching a first-hand, intensive experience of the indigenous music and dance of many continents and peoples.’ Margaret Murray
Carl Orff was born in Munich on 10 July 1895. From 1913 to 1914, he studied composition at the Munich Akademie der Tonkunst with Anton Beer-Walbrunn and from 1915 to 1919 he worked as musical director at the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Mannheim Nationaltheater and the Darmstadt Landestheater. Continuing his studies of composition with Heinrich Kaminski in 1921, Orff began to occupy himself intensely with Bach, Buxtehude, Pachelbel and in particular Monteverdi. Having been involved in the foundation of the ‘Günther-Schule’ for gymnastics, music and dance (1924), he became director of the department of ‘tänzerische Musikerziehung’ [music and dance education]. One of Orff’s major achievements was the ‘Orff-Schulwerk / Music for Children’, an educational method for children, published from 1930 to 1935. Spreading with an astonishing rapidity and intensity around the world, it is still successfully used (in pedagogy and therapy as well). Leading a master class for musical and dramatical composition at the Munich Hochschule für Musik from 1950 to 1960, he was appointed director of the new Orff Institute at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 1961.

Orff-Schulwerk is not a method that should be followed page by page; it is a collection of material that invites original arrangements or variations and the composition of complementary and contrasting material. It mirrors a vision of an education which considers music and dance not as a ‘fringe programme’ but essential for our entire being. These media ‘...are, in all world cultures, as important for survival as water and air. Animal Cracker Suite is a set of four original poems arranged for speech chorus, body percussion, and percussion ensemble. Twenty-one additional original poems are included for teachers and students to make their own musical settings.
Organized in two sections: Section One provides a series of rhythmic and musical preparations in mixed and irregular meters (with emphasis on 7/8, based on excerpts from The Raccoon Philosopher). Ideas are explored for studying specific meters to be moved, played and sung within the mini-musical. Extensions are suggested for other curricular uses under ‘interdisciplinary connection.’ Section Two is the complete mini-musical, The Raccoon Philosopher, which embraces mixed and irregular meter concepts, along with playing, singing, moving and creating. This section also includes staging and costuming suggestions, speech play, songs, movement/choreography ideas and Orff orchestrations. In both sections, true to the Orff-Schulwerk philosophy, it is the authors’ intent that the process be engaging and open-ended, and that it be treated as importantly as the materials that are provided. Students and teachers are invited not only to enjoy the mini-musical suggestions, but also to revel in the preparatory work where their ideas may ultimately enhance and enliven the final performance.

It is written for pre-school and primary teachers working with children aged 4–9, for music teachers and for teachers working with groups of mixed ability. It aims to widen the repertoire of songs, topics and related activities, to enjoy the experience of singing, moving and playing instruments together as well as to stimulate one’s own creativity to invent new extensions. The wide range of activities for each song enables teachers to work with children of different ages and abilities ensuring that no one is over- or under-challenged and that each child can learn, play and contribute to the whole on his or her own level.
This folksong collection provides models of arrangements to be taught using the Orff Schulwerk approach. The arrangements may be taught as printed or used as the basis for creative extensions – or both – and the accompanying teaching suggestions give examples of how to break down instrumental parts and sequence their presentation developmentally. Dance or play-party instructions are also given for some songs. David J. Gonzol is Director of Music Education at Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The works represent a wide variety of styles that draw upon the musical models of the Orff-Schulwerk for inspiration. Along with each piece is a detailed teaching procedure designed to give music educators a collection of instructional techniques that can be used in all aspects of their work. A ‘Process Teaching Toolbox’ organises these techniques by musical element.
A selection of songs, games, dances, stories and instrumental pieces from the Spanish-speaking countries of Central and South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. This book presents a rich and varied selection of material from an immense geographical area, combining local traditions with foreign elements and influences to engage and inspire teachers and students. A DVD with practical demonstrations of the dances will help teachers present these materials in the classroom.
