Member of the Akademie der Wissenschaften in Erfurt. President of the Mahler-Vereinigung Hamburg. Lecturer at international music symposions. Numerous publications, particularly on Mozart, Bruckner, Mahler, Brahms, and Alban Berg and Ligeti.
