6th November 2013 Dear Parents/Carers, I am writing to let you know that Year 11 Parents' Evening is on Thursday 21 st November 2013 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. This is a very good opportunity for you and your son/daughter to discuss the progress he/she has made in his/her individual subjects at this vital stage in his/her school career. Throughout the evening, there will also be an opportunity for you to meet with representatives from a number of local colleges, including, St John Rigby, Wigan and Leigh, Runshaw, West Lancashire and Winstanley. The representatives will be available to answer any questions that you or your child may have about what their respective colleges are able to offer prospective students. I am certain that you already understand that Year 11 is a crucial year and this meeting will give you the opportunity to discuss the progress that your child has made in his/her GCSE courses. It will also be a chance for you to talk to teachers about how you can offer support to your child and help them to achieve their potential. An appointment sheet is attached to this letter. Please give this to your son/daughter to arrange appointments before Parents' Evening. Teachers will insert times on the sheet and your son/daughter will return the sheet to you so that you can refer to it on the night. All teachers will try to ensure that your appointments are not spread over too long a period. In order to give every parent the same access to teachers, each meeting must be limited to five minutes. If a longer period is required, this could be arranged for a future date with the teacher concerned. Where a subject has indicated that an appointment time is not needed, this means that you may go to see the teacher of this subject at any time during Parents’ Evening. May I remind you that it is very important to sign in and out of the building using the attendance sheets that will be provided for you in the main entrance. This is for security reasons and, for the same reason, could you please also take note of the security footer below. I am also obliged to remind you that if your son/daughter is attending Parents' Evening with you then they must wear full school uniform which should be worn correctly. The majority of staff will either be in the Gym or in the Drama Theatre, while the Science staff will be in the Lecture Theatre, with staff from Art, Technology, ICT and Photography in their own departments. I will be available on the evening for any urgent queries and Form Tutors will be in allotted places according to their subject areas but since we will have appointments within our own departments, you may prefer to make an appointment to see either your son/daughter’s Form Tutor or myself following Parents' Evening if there is something you would like to discuss in more detail. Finally, it is very important that you return the slip attached to this letter as soon as possible, but no later than Monday 18th November so that we know that you are aware of the Parents’ Evening. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday 21st November 2013.
Yours sincerely,
M Crompton (Mr) Head of Year 11
