The infants had a wonderful time at the safari park on Tuesday. We saw some crazy creatures: bongos, emus, cockroaches and elephants to name a few. We saw sea-lion show, a fabulous bird of prey show and we even fed the giraffes!

Y3 – Y6 Summer Trip to Blackpool Zoo Yesterday the junior classes went to Blackpool zoo and had an incredible day! From having our lunch while watching the sea lion display to Mrs Pickett getting trapped inside the Lemur enclosure, the whole day was enjoyed by all! The behaviour of the pupils was a credit to both the school and parents and we should all be proud of them! Well done juniors! Chess Update The chess season is now all but over (just one game to go!). Bishop Martin has currently got 56 points in the league which, with one game to go, is already our highest point total ever and shows great progression! Also, Bishop Martin hosted the annual Chess Congress on Wednesday. Eight brave pupils: Luke (Y6), Caitlin (Y5), Che (Y5), Keelan (Y5), James (Y5), Madison (Y6), Rhiannon (Y5), Molly (Y4), played almost three solid hours of chess against six other schools! At the end we finished 3rd overall with a points total of 127. Once again, this is our highest ever score at the congress and was only 15 points off 1st place (in the congress 15 points is VERY close!)! The standard of chess being played at Bishop Martin has improved markedly this year and I would enourage everyone to try it with their children. It is a game that develops logic, reasoning and Maths skills and really helps pupils learn. As I like to say to the pupils at chess club: "Chess takes 5 minutes to learn and a lifetime to master!"
