St. Michael’s CE Junior School Teaching and Learning Policy In planning and delivering a curriculum that is rich and meaningful, the following learning values underpin all our work: • Thinking • Independence • Team work • Creativity • Emotional and Intellectual Engagement We have a shared understanding of what constitutes effective learning and strive to use this to drive our teaching, shape our school environment and enable all children to reach their potential. We believe that the definition of learning extends beyond the acquisition of new skills and knowledge; it is also about discovery, the widening of experiences and opportunities for reflection.

Our aims: •

To provide a curriculum that is rich, broad and creative; where the key skills of problem solving, thinking and working with others are fundamental to teaching and learning across the school.

For all our children to become confident learners, who are able to work both collaboratively and independently.

To provide children with a curriculum that encourages a range of learning opportunities and styles.

That all children should be supported so that they are able to fulfil their potential.

That all children learn the essential skills of life, including developing personal, moral and spiritual values and the skills needed to be active responsible citizens in a rapidly changing world.

To celebrate personal achievement and success
