January 2014 Dear parent/carer, Now we are midway through this first half-term I thought it appropriate to write to you regarding a number of developments within the Academy. Firstly, thank you for your help in ensuring that the children returned to school after the Christmas break in full uniform. Maintaining the highest standards in school uniform is something we are committed to achieve within the academy. If there is a problem regarding your child’s uniform please contact the school immediately to discuss these matters so that a solution can be quickly implemented. As the new term commenced, we welcomed to our staff Mr Roger Farley, who joins us in the role of Primary Head. For parents of children in the primary years please find below a welcome from Mr Farley himself. “Dear parents/carers, I am delighted to have joined the Unity team this New Year and have spent the last few weeks getting to know your children. Already I am very impressed with the behaviour and eagerness of the children to learn from the exciting and challenging lessons both inside and outside of the classroom. If you get chance, I would encourage you to visit our blog site to see for yourselves what happens within school. Your children have an amazing new school to learn in and my colleagues and I are determined to ensure the children at Unity have an enriching and challenging curriculum to nurture and stretch them. As Mr Lickiss has mentioned, we are determined to maintain the highest standards in all aspects within the school, be that education, manners, behaviour or uniform. Please ensure your child attends in the correct uniform, this includes footwear. If you have any concerns or worries about your child, please see your class teacher in the first instance. I look forward to working with your children and meeting you all in the near future.” At the recent Academy Council meeting (equivalent of a school Governing body) the school term dates for the next academic year, including INSET days, were agreed. Therefore please see below the specific dates for the next school year 2014/15. I hope this will help you particularly in planning for family holidays and avoiding removing your children from school in term time, something which will not be authorised by the Academy! The building work continues at a pace within school. A number of refurbished classrooms and facilities came into operation at the beginning of the term. The new school entrance should be ready shortly after half-term. I will write to you again when these facilities are available regarding the arrangements for how the school will operate from then. Our science labs are presently not in use as they too are being completely refurbished. We should have new labs by late March. The majority of the external work Unity Academy Blackpool is a trading name of Fylde Coast Academy Trust. Company No. 8364709 - registered in England and Wales.
