How can we look after others? The learning in this unit enables children to develop spiritual, moral and religious values and is concerned with how religious knowledge, concepts, skills and attitudes, are integrated with the personal development and spiritual life of the child. It takes seriously the pupils’ own context in the world in which they are growing up, and the necessity for structuring a programme of teaching and learning which takes account of their developing awareness, attitudes and abilities. Opening Children to discuss how people look after them and how does that make them feel? Investigations Is it good to be different?

English This Learning Challenge will encourage discussion and reflection about how Christians lead their daily lives, thus developing children’s speaking and listening skills. There will be many opportunities for reading and writing activities linked to this Learning Challenge.

What makes a good friend? Is there a difference between “I need” and “I want”? Was St Francis really Doctor Doolittle? Is the Earth well looked after? How did Jesus care for the needy? Who can we go to for help? What happens to our love one when they die? Why is it important to be brave?

What would it be like to live alone in the world? Reflection Create a book of instructions on how we can look after others?

Digital Literacy This Learning Challenge could be enhanced by the use of I-pads and computer software in various ways, such as: Using the internet to research key questions within the challenge. Creating e-books, presentations and Apps using the research material found. Other Curricular Links Historical Figure: Helen Keller Geography- animals of the world and their needs.
