The Great Fire of London Year 2 Autumn Term 1 Science This half term we will be studying sound, that we listen with our ears and that sound comes from different sources. We will discuss how important our ears are and how loud we can shout. We will think about how we depend on sound in our everyday life.
Computing This half term we will be looking at how computers use algorithms, recognising that these are a set of instructions for the processes on a computer and how they work. Also, whilst using technology safely, the children will be learning how to organise and store information.
Music As part of our Fire of London Topic we will be listening to and singing chants and rhymes.
Numeracy This half term we will be looking at place value and ordering numbers up to 100. We will be learning rapid recall of our number bonds to 10 and 20 along with our 2, 5 and 10 times tables and introducing our 3 and 4 time tables. We will also use number lines to help us add and subtract, using them to help us solve problems. Also we will be collecting data and looking to represent that data on a graph. We will also be discussing the different properties of 2D shapes.
Literacy Throughout the year we will be following Read Write Inc to aid our children in their Phonics and spelling. We will also be looking at different writing genres from; newspaper reports, poetry and story writing all based around The Great Fire of London. In addition to this the children will be concentrating on improving their punctuation skills with capital letters and full stops initially. We will be looking at past tenses and being able to change a text into past tense along with how to make their writing more interesting.
R.E. This topic is designed to help the children appreciate that they are chosen and gifted by God to do him some definite service: to help others. It also develops the children’s knowledge of Abraham, Moses and Daniel and gives some understanding of their faith and trust in God.
Design &Technology
History/Geography
This half term we will be designing and building Tudor houses, working through and discussing ideas. We will look at being able to build structures and will explore how they can be made stronger, more stable and fire proof.
Our Learning Challenge this half term is all about The Great Fire of London. Understanding when it was, how it started and why it spread so quickly. We will place London on a map and begin to look at the similarities between London past and present.
Art This half term we will be developing the techniques we use to paint, mixing different colours and using different styles to produce different textures.
