Friday 3 October 2014

Dear Parents/Carers We have had another busy week in school, welcoming in visitors and sending our students out into the community to take part in a range of enrichment activities on top of the normal day to day curriculum. Year 11 are at the point of their school career where thoughts turn to their next steps. Further education, employment or training beckon and the next few months will see a variety of organisations and providers come in to speak to them about what is on offer. Please talk to them about their aspirations. We also have our first student governing body meeting on Friday 3 October, chaired by Mr Wallis. We will keep you updated about their work and discussions. A group of our year 10 students are also looking forward to their first Astronomy session at Kirkham Grammar School on Monday evening, accompanied by Mr Evans, who is as keen to learn as much about the stars as they are! More information on page 3. The Student Leaders have begun their duties around school this week and I would like to thank them for their efforts in making our school a place that all students are proud of and feel safe in. Josh and Hannah, our head boy and head girl, have put a lot of thought into the rota and the deployment of student leaders, but they also welcome feedback from students regarding further suggestions for improvement. Plans are well underway for our Open Evening on Thursday 9th October, when we will be throwing open our doors to parents and students hoping to join us in year 7 or 12 next September. We have put an exciting programme in place and we look forward to welcoming parents and prospective students into our school on that night. The evening starts at 6.30pm and will end at 9pm, all are welcome. On Tuesday 14th October we are also having an Open Morning when prospective students and their parents can have a look around the school whilst it is in session. Tours are by prior appointment and start at 9am and 10am. As always, your support is appreciated as we strive to keep Ashton “A school to be proud of. If you wish to discuss any issues or share a good news story, please do not hesitate to contact me either by ringing the school or by email. Best wishes, Sharon Asquith, Principal
