Ashton Highlights Newsletter 4
Friday 17th October 2014
Dear Parents/Carers We’ve enjoyed another amazing week at Ashton! We held our annual Open Evening for prospective year 7 and 12 students last Thursday and as always it was a brilliant night. You will be able to read more about it in this issue of the newsletter and if you follow us on Twitter, you will have already seen some of the photographs we took on the night of our students and visitors in action. If you don’t follow us on Twitter, now might be a good time to start! The feedback from visitors was unanimously positive and without doubt our guest speakers Josh McGovern and Hannah Lightowler stole the show with their heart-warming and honest accounts of what it is like to be a student at Ashton. Speaking in front of over 300 people is not easy, yet they made it look effortless and I know that the year 6 students in particular listened carefully to every word they said. At the end of the evening, all the completed open evening passports were entered into a prize draw and I am pleased to confirm that Noah Kellett from Cottam Primary School was the winner. A £50 Love to Shop voucher is on its way to you Noah. Looking forward to next week, we have our year 7 settling in evening on Tuesday where we welcome year 7 students and their parents to discuss how things are going in these crucial first weeks of secondary school life. We are also holding our highly acclaimed “Fully Loaded” evening, where we aim to unlock the mysteries of exam success and offer study support strategies to parents of our year 11 students. Events such as this are always well subscribed and the feedback from parents and students who attended last year suggest it is definitely one that should not be missed. Dr Walmsley and Mrs Hoyle are keynote speakers. As always, we are pleased to receive items for the newsletter. If you have anything you would like to contribute please don’t hesitate to contact us. Best wishes, Sharon Asquith, Principal Follow us on twitter @ashtoncsc 1
