How to support your child’s learning at home:  Listen to your child read for 10 minutes every day.  Help them to learn their times tables.  Ensure that your child completes their homework.  Provide your child with a quiet place to work/read.

Don’t forget that your child’s PE kit should be in school for the duration of each half term.

Homework goes home on a Friday and it due in by Tuesday.

Spellings go home on Friday to be tested the following Thursday.

Curriculum Overview Year 4 Autumn Term 1

Literacy:

Investors In Pupils:

Linking with their work on Investors in Pupils, children will write acrostic poems to describe what their class tree represents and their role within the class. This will be followed by the children studying and writing play scripts.

To link with the science and creative curriculum children will also be looking at information texts.

To encourage children to take ownership for their own learning we have been focusing on their individual roles and responsibilities within the classroom. They have created their own targets and worked together to develop Class Charters.

Maths: Throughout this half term we will be learning how to partition, round and order four digit numbers. Children will use their knowledge of addition and subtraction to find the difference of two numbers.

We will also learn the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and sort them accordingly.

Together we will use and apply our newly acquired skills, to solve mathematical problems.

Science: Our focus this half term is based on the human body. Children will be developing their understanding of teeth and oral hygiene. Following on from this, children will be learning what happens to the food that they eat through studying how the digestive system works.

Visits: To support our creative curriculum work on rivers, the children will visit a local river and its estuary at the RSPB Discovery Centre at St Anne’s.

P.E. Creative Curriculum: Towards the end of the half term, children will be learning about the water cycle and how rivers are formed. They will demonstrate their understanding by creating their own river model.

This Half Term we will be developing our multi-skills. These include balance, control and agility.

Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit with their name inside, and that it is in school for every lesson. Ideally PE kits should be left in school and only taken home during holidays No jewellery is allowed during PE lessons.
