How to support your child’s learning at home To help your child further in their education, they must be doing the following activities at home. 





They must read for 10 minutes each night to an adult. The adult must then fill in their reading journal.

Practice times tables. By the end of year 3 your child should know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 10 times tables off by heart.

Each child has a home school journal. These must be signed by an adult each week and be in school every day.

To promote independence year 3 children are required to enter school by themselves. If as a parent you wish to speak to a teacher they are always available at the end of the school day.

Don’t forget PE! PE kits should be in school every day.

Curriculum Overview Year 3 Autumn Term 1

Creative Curriculum English: In English we will be looking at shape poems. We are going to be writing poems about ourselves and our class tree, ready to put up on display. We will then move onto information texts, and will be looking at their layout and how to make them eye catching. The children will be making their own leaflets all about Naughty Bus Tours.

IIP: All children have now been set targets.

They have these in reading, writing and maths. They also have a personal target that they set for themselves. All targets can be found in your child’s journal.

Please encourage them to learn these, as it will support their learning.

Geography: In geography we will be looking at the countries in the British Isles. We will look at their location, landmarks and cultures.

These places will be located and plotted on a map of the UK, Europe and the world.

Our topic to start the year is Ourselves.

During this unit we look at ourselves, the people who help us in school and our body. We will then move onto Our Kingdom. The children are going to learn about the United Kingdom and the countries that are within it.

Maths: In maths we will start by looking at the 4 operations and how to work out these questions using written methods. Over the next few weeks we will look at shape and measurement and data handling, where we will use tally charts and tables.

PE: In PE we have been looking at our multi skills. We have been learning to balance, travel in different directions and control equipment such as balls. Please make sure that your child has the correct PE kit.

Science: Throughout the term we will be looking at humans and animals. We will concentrate first on nutrition, making sure that we know how to eat healthily and what these foods do for our body. After this we will explore our body. We will learn the names of the bones in our body and how our muscles work during exercise.
