LINDEN ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL DRAFT NEW CURRICULUM AIMS This curriculum is designed to engage all learners in exciting, real context learning which is connected across the curriculum through a common theme to provide a rich deep learning experience.
Teachers are encouraged to adapt, evolve and create further learning opportunities to meet the needs and interests of the children within their classes. The themes and learning activities outlined here are not prescriptive and must be adapted to the outcomes of pupil voice in the co-construction of their own learning and of ongoing formative and summative assessment. All themes will commence with a stimulating ‘hook’ to engage learners from which pupils will identify their own questions and lines of enquiry which will inform curriculum design. We want this to be an active not prescriptive curriculum. The themes are based through our core subjects – Literacy, numeracy, ICT and creativity (art, music, D&T, drama). Numeracy will continued to be taught discreetly with additional opportunities within the theme where this is naturally appropriate. Initially Literacy will also be taught discreetly but with complete immersion in the theme both during timetabled sessions and the theme. Science, History, Geography and PSHE are linked throughout the curriculum with specific themes providing a rich opportunity to really enhance subject specific skills such as historical enquiry, fieldwork, scientific enquiry. Termly seasonal observation opportunities linked to the National Curriculum core science will provide further opportunity for pupils to engage with their local environment and experience purposeful outdoor learning. The development of these skills will be underpinned by a focus on Behaviours for Learning Computing will be taught as a discreetly where possible linking to a cross curricula theme.
