Local Offer for Carleton Green Community Primary School

Accessibility & Inclusion: •

How accessible is the school environment? Is the building fully wheelchair accessible? Do you have accessible parking spaces? Have there been improvements in the auditory and visual environment? Are there accessible changing/toilet facilities? How do you improve access to the setting? How accessible is your information? - including displays, policies and procedures etc. Do you have information available in different font sizes, audio information, Braille, other languages etc. How does the setting communicate with parents and families whose first language is not English? How is information made accessible to parents and families with additional needs?

What the school provides: The school is built across one floor, with the exception of three classrooms and a workroom on the first floor, which is part of KS2. The building is currently utilised by children with physical difficulties, moving classrooms as appropriate to ensure access. The school provides a disabled parking space, and parking is available at the front of the school as well as accessible toilet facilities with a shower. Policies and procedures are available upon request at the school office. We run an open door policy and parents/ carers are encouraged to come and speak to us regarding any issues or information which they may require. The school website provides information for parents which can be produced in a number of ways depending on the children/parents we as a school are addressing. Meetings are organised upon joining Carleton Green with new parents to help build relationships. This allows any information to be shared. Class teachers aim to ensure that information is passed to parents, and senior management work hard to build a rapport with parents who may need extra support.

How accessible is the provision? •

How do you make use of resources such as symbols, pictures and sign graphics to support children's access to resources? Do you have furniture such as height adjustable tables or alternative ways of presenting activities so that children can access them? How do you make use of resources such as symbols, pictures and sign graphics to support children's access to resources? Do you have furniture such as height adjustable tables or alternative ways of presenting activities so that children can access them? Do you have specialised equipment (eg; ancillary aids or assistive technology?)

We aim to make our provision accessible for all. This is evolving on a ‘needs’ basis. Symbols are used, where appropriate, to support children’s learning. Visual aids and timetables are utilised where necessary. Furniture needs are supported via the Occupational Therapy service.
