Is Business for you?

You have achieved a combination of C and D grades at GCSE level. You do not need to have studied Business in the past to study this course, but you must have an interest in developing your knowledge of the subject.

You want to learn about the key areas of running a business and making business decisions.

You want to develop important skills which will be useful in future employment such as time management, how to prepare reports and presentations, initiative and creativity, how to work in teams effectively.

You are motivated to investigate and research different businesses and discuss business problems.

You enjoy applying your knowledge to the real business world by visiting businesses to find out how they operate.

You want to learn how organisations operate in theory and how they function in practice.

What will I learn?

Business Purposes

You will learn about the importance of providing excellent customer service, how to do this and how it can be monitored and evaluated.

You will learn about the nature of business organisations and the environment in which they operate.

People in Organisations You will study job roles and functions within businesses and how to prepare for employment.

Business Organisations You will explore business aims and objectives and how they are organised into functional areas.

Financial Forecasting You will learn about the essential financial aspects related to running a business.

Bookkeeping for Business You will discover the methods and documents commonly used in business for recording sales transactions and bookkeeping; and how these methods can help to prevent fraud.

Managing Personal Finances You will begin to acquire the skills and knowledge for management of personal finances and to be able to plan for a secure future.

Training & Employment in Business You will explore the rights and responsibilities of businesses and employees and the importance and benefits of motivation and training of employees.

The Marketing Plan

We have an extensive range of books available in the library which provide as a great source of information for the course. The BTEC textbook follows the specification closely, so you can easily see what you have covered and quickly find the information you need. ICT resources are available in all teaching rooms.

The course is supported by the Learning Support team and learning mentors and teaching staff operate an ‘open door’ policy.

How will I be assessed?

This course is assessed entirely on the basis of coursework-based assignments. There are no exams, although this will change from 2014/15.

What activities can I get involved in?

You will learn how to apply the knowledge you have gained and make business decisions through work experience, case study materials, visits and speakers.

The College has lots of exciting enrichment and C.V building opportunities including the chance to earn the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, learn a new skill, learn a language, join a club, take up or develop a sport or take on a new challenge. Where does it lead?

You will learn how to develop marketing and promotion plans for business.

Verbal and Non Verbal Communications You will learn how to develop the ability to use verbal and non-verbal communications in a workplace setting.

Personal Selling in Business You will develop knowledge and an understanding of the role of personal selling activities in business.

You will encounter a variety of different tasks and learning approaches. You will acquire your basic knowledge through combinations of class notes, case studies, videos, TV and practical exercises.

@BSFC

The Level 2 BTEC Diploma qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A* - C and the Certificate is equivalent to 2 GCSE grades A*-C. At the end of the course you will graded at either a pass, merit or distinction level. You can progress onto the Level 3 BTEC courses; these can then lead onto Higher Education or employment.

Business Studies is always a useful subject, as most people will either end up working in a business or running their own. This course will give you a good grounding in becoming a Manager or for owning your own business.
