Welcome back after a lovely, half term break! The children have settled back into school really well. We have had a further Open Morning today, for prospective families to join our school. Walking around the school is always beneficial, as it allows for the school to be showcased and see what goes on at Churchtown in the life of a child.

We have received a multitude of positive comments about the calm environment, exemplary children’s behaviour, the fun and enjoyment going on in the classrooms and the structure to the school day. This has been really lovely to receive and share with staff and children. We look forward to seeing any families who will be in attendance at the Remembrance Service on Sunday. Our school will be laying a wreath at the Cenotaph and taking part in the parade down Lord Street at the end of the service.

Have a good weekend – Mrs Payne.

LOVE OF LEARNING

This half term, the Value that Churchtown is developing is Love of Learning At the end of the half term, Value Champions will be nominated for each class.

PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR MESSAGE IN RELATION TO A CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION FROM: Patrick Hurley MP Member of Parliament for Southport

I am excited to announce the launch of my Annual Christmas Card Competition and would like to invite all the talented young artists from your school to participate! This year, I’m looking for creative and festive designs that celebrate the joy and spirit of Christmas.

We have three categories: A Southport Christmas, A Green Christmas and A Community Christmas. Winning designs from each category will be reproduced digitally and used as an official Christmas Card, which will be sent to many people across our constituency, including local community leaders and charities.

Who can enter? All pupils in primary schools in the Southport Constituency.

Themes: Southport Christmas – depicting Southport at Christmas time.

Green Christmas – thinking about the environment, perhaps using recycled materials or leaves from the garden. Community Christmas – depicting togetherness and the sense of belonging that Christmas can often bring.

Submission deadline: Thursday 14th November 2024.

All entries should be submitted to school to Mrs J Scaife, Head’s PA and a winner from each category from each school is to be submitted to Patrick Hurley’s office. We would love to see as many pupils as possible get involved!

On Friday 6th December, all children will be taking part in the School Games National Santa Dash!

On this day, we are inviting all children to bring in their Santa Hat or Christmas Hat (if you have one) and complete the Daily Mile with their classmates. It will be happening in lots of schools across Sefton on this day and is going to be a great way to exercise and get into the Christmas spirit! Each class/year group will be allotted a time slot of 15 mins.

Outstanding balances on ParentPay

Please ensure that all ParentPay accounts are topped up prior to using our wraparound care facilities and Nursery as well as for lunch payments. Please also check if there are any payments required for school trips too. You will be contacted if you have an outstanding debt on your ParentPay account. If your child’s lunch debt exceeds £20, then you will be contacted and asked to provide a packed lunch for your child each day until the debt is repaid. If you are struggling with the re-payments, please contact our school office.

Major McEntee, as part of The Royal British Legion, has organised for all children to receive a Poppy Appeal item in school this week Children have made their kind donation to the Poppy Poppy Appeal in exchange for their chosen item. We would like to thank Major McEntee for his donations.

Our Butterflies After School Club is looking for donations of toys suitable for our older children in Years 4, 5, and 6. Whether it’s board games, puzzles, craft supplies, or any other age-appropriate toys, we would love to give them a new lease of life at our club! We would greatly appreciate your generosity.

How can you help?

1. 1) Check your shelves! If you have toys that are gently used and in good condition, we would love to give them a new home.

2. 2) Spread the word! Share this post with friends and family who might have items to donate.

Donations can be dropped off at the school office, or feel free to message us for more details –office@churchtown.org.uk !

Wow! The 'Travelling Science Man' came to school this week. Year 2 had a fantastic introduction to the unit of 'Materials'. He demonstrated the properties and suitability of materials in a fun and exciting way.

The material properties of hard, soft, strong, weak, flexible, rigid, waterproof and absorbent were explored and tested in unusual and astounding ways. We also looked at ways to change materials, including cutting, twisting, folding, heating and mixing, to produce unexpected effects!

How many people can fit through a sheet of paper? Why is it not a good idea to bring your packed lunch to school in a paper bag? Can we make a piece of tissue so strong that no one can rip it? These are just three of many questions we have been answering.

It’s that time of year again and the businesses on Botanic Road, Churchtown are doing the annual Elf Hunt down the street - they would love children to go and take part in it. It’s a bit more of a challenge this year as not only do you have to find the letters and put them into a sentence, but there is also a word search and a portrait of an Elf.

Thank you for supporting the Christmas events down Botanic Road!
