Year 2
Half-term: Autumn 2 (W/C Monday 4th November 2024– W/C Monday 16th December 2024)
In Year 2, we believe that homework should consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and inform families of the children’s learning as they share this knowledge with you at home.
To support this, please choose and complete 6 activities from the grid over the course of the half-term. Please can your child bring this in every Thursday so it can be celebrated in class on a Friday Work can be completed in homework books or, where appropriate, brought in its original form e.g. a photograph or poster etc.
We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work and we strive to develop their independence, therefore we expect each homework task to be completed with care and to the best of their ability.
Our weekly homework offer in Year 2 includes:
1. Curriculum Menu
2. Reading- please continue to aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week.
3. Maths - we would also like your child to continue to practise their maths at home, focusing on counting in steps of 2s, 5s and 10s. You could use your child’s Maths passport to help with this. Your child will be practising their ‘Maths passport’ twice weekly. These will be sent home during the week.
4. Focus words - we would like your child to practise their ‘red words’. Red words are common exception words – this means they are words that don’t always follow the usual phonics patterns when we read & spell these words We will put our focus words inside your child’s reading records every week so they can practise reading & spelling these words at home. In class, we will learn to read and spell these words together throughout the week.
We can’t wait to see your work!
Thank you so much for your continued support!
Your Year 2 Team
English:
Write three sentences about Traction Man and the characters he meets.
Remember to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. For example,
Traction Man saves the dolls from the mud.
Traction Man dives into the sink.
PSHE:
Can you practise tying your shoelaces? Check out you tube for some handy videos.
Maths:
Using 2 dice, playing cards or 1- or 2-digit numbers written on card, you could play a maths game where your child makes addition or subtraction sentences with the numbers that are revealed. Children could use resources around the house (e g. blocks, pencils or pasta pieces) to support learning. For an added challenge you could ask your child to add 3 numbers together.
Spanish:
Draw a picture of your choice and then label the colours in Spanish
RE:
Find out 5 facts about a Religious Festival that you celebrate or are interested in. For example, Christmas, Easter, Diwali, Hanukkah or Passover etc.
Science: Go for a ‘material hunt’ around your home. What ‘material’ is the object made out of and why is it ‘suitable’? For example, a window is made out of glass because it is strong, transparent and waterproof.
Children’s choice:
Share something you have learnt at home! Maybe you could do some baking, crafting or go on an outing somewhere.
History:
Make a ‘Fact File’ all about Guy Fawkes and the ‘Gunpowder plot’.
Art:
Have a look at different ‘textures’ you can find around your house, garden or local area. Can you make crayon rubbings of these different textures? Can you then use the different rubbings to create a collage?
